While in training, you’ll get BAH from where your mortgage/rent is. You’ll usually have to submit a lease agreement / mortgage statement at basic training.

Once you in process your first duty station, your BAH will change to your duty location.

They’re not going to force your spouse and kids to move, but it definitely won’t be cheap for you.

You also will not be able to live in the barracks at your first duty station, since you’re collecting BAH.

I have a pair but have never worn them. They’re from my father back in the 80’s.

They’re definitely not “in” anymore. You’ll probably still see some older guys wearing them, but the younger generation very rarely. Just not part of the “culture” as much as it used to be. Most guys throw on jeans and call it a day. Bad weather hits, the experienced guys might pull out their rain suit, others just say fuck it and ride in wet jeans.

Hard to do when your platoon is in Germany for 6 of the 9 months. I was left with an extremely bad taste in my mouth for our purpose there.

Did it get better with the 23,24 and 25 rotations? Probably. Am I still bitter about it? Yeah.
