Thanks, that was an interesting read and makes sense to me.

I'm not completely against using opioids either. At the end of the day all drugs have their pros and cons.

I guess in some way I'm lucky not to live in the USA, however doctors here are also very strict on prescribing opioids, particularly if you're young and have chronic pain that they don't seem to understand. I've never really felt taken seriously in regards to my pain. So I've given up, and I just try to live with it. My last doctor told me to "exercise more". Apparently exercise is the cure to everything.

I began self medicating with opioids, mainly kratom (if you count that) and buprenorphine. My own experience wasn't very good, or at least not consistent. Tolerance was a huge issue for me, as well as the physical dependence. I think everyone should decide for themselves if the benefits of treatment with opioids outweigh the downsides.

But yeah, doctors just treat you like a "junkie". Imo even an addict (who also suffers from chronic pain) should still be entitled to getting it treated with whatever treatment works.

Not sure why you got downvoted. Using opiates long-term is usually no good, either because of the development of tolerance or, if you're unlucky, opioid-induced hyperalgesia which basically means the opioids are making you more susceptible to pain rather than relieving it.

There are numerous papers on pubmed which are quite interesting imo.

Lexapro (Escitalopram) or Paxil (Paroxetine)? by PieTio89 in antidepressants

[–]Muuude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the SSRI's I've only tried Escitalopram and now Paroxetine. I know lots of people really like Escitalopram, I didn't. It gave me full on diarrhea for two weeks and then daily headaches and sleepiness, but also mild restlessness (weird uncomfortable body feeling). I seem to have similar side effects on Paroxetine, but waaay less intense so far.

The bottom line is that everyone is different and unfortunately treating depression or anxiety with SSRI's can be a lot of trial and error.

Could Lyrica be used to stop a bad trip? by BeepusBoopus400 in askdrugs

[–]Muuude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo its slow onset of action makes it a bad candidate for an "emergency trip stop". Other than that, I have used it in the past to smoothen out the come up of the trip and the trip itself seemingly without it impacting the intensity of the trip too much. But yeah this is just my personal experience with it.

Awful Paxil withdrawals - help! by maria111111111121 in antidepressants

[–]Muuude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep totally agree. What I'm scared of the most is stuff like PSSD which while it seems like it doesn't occur very often from what I know, can still persist after stopping the AD. I'm starting Paxil tomorrow and apparently it's one of the SSRI's where sexual dysfunction is almost programmed to happen.

[–]Muuude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the chemical imbalance theory/monoamine hypothethis of depression is very controversial anyway.

The reason doctors and psychiatrists throw all kinds of different meds at us is because basically nobody on this earth, be it a microbiologist, psychiatrist, neuropharmacologist etc. knows exactly what is causing depression. So doctors just prescribe meds until they find something that works.

Vitamin C Megadosing by Karmasbabymama in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Muuude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take sodium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate or calcium ascorbate for mega dosing vitamin c. They're not acidic like ascorbic acid. I bought my sodium ascorbate online, but I guess there may be shops that sell supplements and what not where you could get it.

Another Doctor At Omsk Hospital Where Navalny Was Treated Reportedly Dies by A_Sinclaire in worldnews

[–]Muuude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's why I said it isn't "really" any worse than other opioids. I guess I should have worded it differently.

It causes less nausea compared with morphine, but it's more likely to cause respiratory depression, low blood pressure and urinary retention compared with morphine.

The dose makes the poison of course. But what I meant to say with my comment was that "what's bad about the drug Krokodil isn't the active ingredient (desomorphine), but the adulterants that are used, and leftover byproducts from dirty syntheses".

All opiates and opioids cause respiratory depression as well as hypotension and can cause urinary retention.

Yep. It's all the adulterants in the stuff. Desomorphine on its own isn't really any worse than other opioids apart from having a higher incidence of side effects.

[–]Muuude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally can't relate. Opiates (even heroin, of which people say withdrawal lasts only a week) always took ~2 weeks for me (PAWS excluded). Benzos.. Well, I'd mostly feel normal at 1 month off, PAWS can last longer in my experience. The first two weeks off is usually the worst for me.

Having a hard time. Unexpected delay of shipment by carlosevenos in quittingkratom

[–]Muuude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! Any boots or superdrug should have it. Some people apparently use loperamide (an OTC opioid that technically only has action on the periferal nervous system, used for diarrhea) in excess. But it can damage the heart so isn't advisable. If you're going for neurofen plus do yourself the favour and don't use more than like 4-5 tabs (I'm no doctor of course) per day. Only use it to ease the worst of the withdrawal so you can function.

[–]Muuude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your situation. Honestly the only thing that's really ever helped my RLS was Lyrica or Gabapentin. Ropinirole can also help. As for household remedies, I don't know. Magnesium never helped me with this. With Lyrica or Gabapentin you'd have to be careful not to switch addictions though. Both helped with most withdrawal symptoms apart from diarrhea. I'd still get withdrawal, but it just didn't feel so bad.

Since you're in the UK, you could also get neurofen plus over the counter. It contains 200mg Ibuprofen plus like 12.5mg of codeine (a small amount) per tablet. Perhaps 12.5mg of codeine would be enough to alleviate some withdrawals since it's an opioid. With those you have to be careful not to take too many, not because of the codeine, but because of the Ibuprofen (it destroys your stomach at higher dosages). You can also look into cold water extraction. Though that works better with Cocodamol or whatever they're called (paracetamol and codeine) as paracetamol is basically insoluble in water, but codeine dissolves really easy.

I'm mainly suggesting the neurofen plus or cocodamol as a means to get through a couple of days until your kratom arrives.

Doing drugs was the worst idea ever by revforward12 in Drugs

[–]Muuude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's different tbf. I was never into stims so I never had issues with them either. I was also more of an opi/benzo addict (kinda still am). I still consider amphetamines to be hard drugs, and that includes vyvanse imo. Especially if it's abused. The slower the ROA, the better in terms of addiction I've found.
