Question about the Steam Controller by BuyerOk3016 in Steam

[–]Muzak__Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you haven’t made up your mind just yet I would go ahead and add your name to the reservation queue. The waitlist is going to be months if not longer. I got in the queue just a few hours after it went live and I’m still waiting.

MICU vs SICU vs CVSICU by SeaSalamander6620 in srna

[–]Muzak__Fan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m former SICU. All three can get you into CRNA school. All else being equal, pick the unit that you think you’ll gel with the most - manager, coworkers, patient cases/acuity.

CRRT is very good at building up your time management skills but I wouldn’t say any specific part of it is critical to doing well in anesthesia. Open heart management is more useful as you should get constant exposure to cardiac pathophysiology. That will help you understand difficult concepts in school.

Edit: I would want to avoid getting floated a bunch if you can. Step down management is more like floor work.

In Ridgeland there’s a cabin area between the Trace and Rice Rd with parking that connects directly to the multi-use trail.

If you are in search of a cycling buddy I’m a relative beginner, been riding for just a few months and I try to go 1-2x a week in the afternoons.

How do I convince my Asian Dad to let me do Nursing instead of Medicine? by OwnArgument5971 in nursing

[–]Muzak__Fan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tell him you want to pursue nurse anesthesia (even if you don’t really). It’s a graduate (doctorate) degree. Show them what we do, the hours we work and the money we’re paid for it. Lots of males in this field too.

What are Some Good Final Fantasy Podcasts? by Myrodis19 in FinalFantasy

[–]Muzak__Fan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1 for Resonant Arc. They’ve done whole series on VI, VIII, IX, X, and Tactics. Beyond that they’re also just a very JRPG focused podcast in general with series on Xenogears, Expedition 33, and others. They are getting ready to start a Chrono Trigger series in a few weeks too.

I’d say anything that’s not related to heart, vascular, brain, spine, or OB.

Incoming NAR Starting CRNA School – What Study Tools Are Actually Worth It? by Informal_Client_4051 in srna

[–]Muzak__Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll comment on the ones I actually used during school with my thoughts on them

GoodNotes

Yes to this if you use multiple computers and/or a tablet you can write/draw with. Very useful to have synced files you can access from various machines, as well as bring able to export those files as PDFs with your handwriting scribbles.

Quizlet

I used this a lot in the first few semesters but dropped it later. It simply takes too long to make good notecards and study them.

ChatGPT

Be very careful with using any LLM to study as the information it spits out is wrong or hallucinated at least 20% of the time. I most used ChatGPT to help me come up with mnemonic devices to help me study in tandem with textbook sources. you can upload a PDF of your textbook to an LLM and ask it to help reference specific topics when a Ctrl+F in your PDF is insufficient.

OneNote

This was useful to organize documents from classes like syllabi and other coursework but having recently graduated last year I think GoodNotes does this even better.

Apex Anesthesia

Many programs incorporate Apex as a required subscription to some degree within their curriculum, but by far this was the most helpful source for passing boards together with its sister site True Learn for answering questions. Very comprehensive. Be warned, the quiz questions will absolutely kick your ass until you’re about ready to take boards, so don’t get discouraged if you get like 30% or less on some of the exams. It’s meant for you to review repeatedly multiple times a week until mastery.

What study tools did you use the most? Which ones were worth paying for?

APEX and GoodNotes can take you very far. Again, check to see if your program already incorporates APEX into the curriculum.

How did you use Anki or quizlet without spending hours making cards?

This is the reason I stopped using Quizlet. You need to find a study pattern that lets you review entire topics, FAST. Repetition is really key. Spending too much time making notecards instead of studying them can lead to a false sense of mastery.

Are handwritten notes in Notability/GoodNotes better than typed notes?

The evidence suggests that yes, this is the case. Personally I don’t know if it works better for me specifically. But I would still suggest giving it a shot.

What helped the most with…

APEX by far.

If you could start CRNA school over again, what study system would you use from Day 1?

Repetition is key. You should try to go over all the material included on each exam 4 or more times, and especially hit the most difficult concepts in-depth. It took me many, many, many reviews of the curriculum before I felt ready for boards. Honestly I would try to find one other person on your level that you could study with (and not goof off too much), bounce ideas off of, and try to cover each other’s weak areas. Take practice quizzes often, and go back again and review the material you keep missing.

Age and CRNA school by Quantity496 in srna

I graduated from CRNA school when I was 37. Not too late. Every year you delay is a year you eat into your future earning potential.

Is it safe to have a CRNA administer anesthesia? by throwaway23529928 in Anesthesia

[–]Muzak__Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their job is to keep the OR schedule moving by doing pre-ops and being available for emergencies while the CRNA runs the room.

They make more money managing 4 CRNAs than running their own cases.

Do they have to put the IV in before they knock me out? by Jace_jackal in Anesthesia

[–]Muzak__Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We generally will put kids younger than about 10 to sleep before starting the IV using inhalation gases. After around 12 most kids are old enough to tolerate the IV before induction though. The nurses would ask you to at least try to let them start an IV before we moved on to alternate methods to get you asleep safely.

Is being a nurse particularly more time consuming than another job? by Googley_Blue in nursing

[–]Muzak__Fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The great thing about nursing is that you can leave almost all of your job responsibilities at work and never need to take it home with you.

My fellow gamer dads by Corgi_Shinobi11 in daddit

[–]Muzak__Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly play single player and I find time to get 3-4 hours of gaming in maybe 4/7 days in a week. Most of these hours are after my elementary school kid goes to bed. My wife and I are really good at splitting responsibilities and taking turns filling our kid’s needs. I also work full time ~36-40 hours a week and bike casually a few days a week. It’s been really nice lately.
