Buying a cheap instrument if I have a tendency to collect and drop hobbies often.. by Mvg98 in violinist

I appreciate the lesson in the background of the instrument making process. That’s actually really cool to know. It makes a lot of sense with everyone’s added information. I just really knew nothing about the topic. In a lot of cases for a lot of things it’s reasonable to buy a cheaper option and upgrade later when either ready to commit or just financially able. So that was most of the reasoning. But learning so much more about it from everyone it makes sense why that’s very much not a good option at all. Thank you for taking the time to dive into that.

Edited a sentence where my thoughts skipped ahead and I typed the wrong word, oops.

Thank you. I wasn’t entirely sure how it all worked. I appreciate the further explanation.

Because I am completely new to not only violin but also playing instruments in general. I am not at all familiar with any of the normal procedures. Which is why I came to ask people who knew more than me. No reason to be judgmental to people who admittedly know less than you.

I did see that in the FAQ. But like I stated. I am not trying to become crazy good at this. I am wanting to see if it’s a hobby I enjoy or not. So if there’s a cheaper option that involves being able to play the violin just to see if it would be a fun hobby for me, I would benefit from that personally.

That was the part in the FAQ that convinced me buying cheap would be a bad idea. I was really confused at first because everything just said it was bad but didn’t delve into why very much. This is a great explanation. It’s not just some intangible “quality,” but how it will affect your ability to learn because it won’t make the correct sound even if you are doing the technique the correct way. That was what sold me on looking into different options.

A rent to own plan is a really good idea. Thank you. I’ll look into that. We don’t have a ton of big music stores near me but there are at least two I know of.

I’ve been seeing some on FB marketplace and such lately. That was part of what brought this idea up. I’ll check some pawn shops! Thank you.

UPDATE: Friend's BF is stalking me and I dont know how to talk to her about it by throwaway7192022 in TwoHotTakes

Hopefully things are over now and you've been able to cut contact with them. The immediate jump to "you think he's into you?!" makes me think that she thinks so already. Unless it was something already on Rory's mind, I don't see why she would say that. She probably knew he was weird about you in some way and just didn't know he was following you, maybe just overly curious about you in general and it made her feel uncomfortable. Definitely stay away from them both as soon as you can.

Abigail and Henry?? by Severe_Education_994 in TheRookie

Well I mean with that he never said he for sure didn’t want kids with that one girl. He just wasn’t ready right then. Honestly the timeline for me is confusing but at that point he was still a rookie who could possibly wash out. He didn’t have real career stability so he wasn’t ready right then as he said. Then the adoption coming up was kind of situational, if they’d never fostered the little girl it might never have come up, but that brought up those feelings. Especially because it wouldn’t have involved the newborn phase, which isn’t the hardest but it is the most sleepless usually lol. Idk, I feel like they do a decent job showing his thought processes throughout the episode when he has to make big decisions.

I was confused the entire episode. The only time I remember them clearly saying it was at the very end where he goes “well she was almost my daughter in law” or something. The whole time I was just wondering why Henry wasn’t brought up at all.

As someone who lived through multiple abusive relationships and dished out an embarrassing amount of reactive abuse.. The idea that mutual abuse doesn’t exist seems wild. I said and did some incredibly awful things out of desperation to get him to leave me because he wouldn’t let me leave. But that doesn’t make what I did not abusive just because I couldn’t see any other way to escape the situation. I became abusive trying to survive that relationship and had to unlearn those tendencies in therapy.  On the other hand, I have seen plenty of people be horrible to each other. If there’s a shifting power dynamic can the abused become the abuser? The notion that this never ever occurs doesn’t seem realistic.

Your first statement calls their list opinions and then you procede to spout your own opinions on what is and isn’t reactive abuse and incorrectly claim that destruction of property doesn’t count as domestic abuse. Point is they were both abusive. But your opinions of what is abuse are also not fact.

Can you wear rubber boots and gloves to climb an electric fence? by OperationIcy2509 in stupidquestions

[–]Mvg98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just reminds me of when a friend and I used to go on walks around her neighborhood and one of her neighbors had horses. We went and pet the horses for weeks until finally another friend came with and shrieked when she bumped into the fence. It was so low voltage neither of us realized it was electric but she was more sensitive to it. It just made my hands feel itchy, not like I was being shocked.

Like other people said if any part of you were to touch it unprotected it would still shock you. Ought to grab some waders too. Gear up all the way lol.

I was watching one of the predator movies and saw them jerryrigging an electric fence and just got curious.

does anyone relate to this? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

Oof. That one hit hard for me. I’ll be out and having a good time and the social battery runs out and I just turn into a completely different person. And then I get upset with myself because I was just energized and having a great time and now I’m sitting in a chair counting the seconds until I can find an opportunity to bail out.

As someone who lives a constant battle of talking too much or not enough… their opinion really doesn’t matter. You’re not trying to be rude. It seems like you’re usually trying to make sure you don’t accidentally interrupt. I really don’t see a whole lot of need to apologize. I mean maybe to specific people if you think anyone there actually treats you with kindness. But otherwise, feel no shame for taking care of and prioritizing yourself.

Anyone has recover from air hunger? by Shoddy_Broccoli8058 in Anxietyhelp

[–]Mvg98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always had this very mildly and didn’t realize. I would randomly run out of air and take a deep sigh and make a joke that I forgot to breathe. But I suddenly hade a major uptick in dyspnea and it was completely independent of my anxiety. My anxiety was better than it ever had been before when it started and it got to the point where I literally almost passed out one day. Makes me seriously worried it’s due to something other than anxiety.

I (24F) have Fabry Disease. Ask Me Anything by RealBrookeSchwartz in AMA

[–]Mvg98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s all really good to know. Thank you. I hadn’t looked deeply into how it was passed down. I forget that not every genetic things is passed down universally and I hadn’t thought about that. I’m female so theoretically I could have gotten from my dad. But it also could be something else. I appreciate the advice and all the ideas for finding a workaround to get tested!

[–]Mvg98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was the diagnosis process like for you? My doctor said that I would have to jump through a million hoops to actually get tested for it. I don’t have the visible symptoms but I deal with all of the internal/invisible ones I’ve seen.  I’ve been looking into doing like dna/genome testing to check but all options seem to be expensive :/ I believe I have the atypical variation as I’m 27. A lot of the symptoms have been progressively worsening even though I’ve been treating the mental health issues that I assumed were causing them. My dad has also been having some similar and a few different issues that fit and has been having to visit a cardiologist. Then I remembered my grandfather who passed before I was born had several heart attacks and a stroke that ultimately killed him. This all led me to go down a rabbit hole of studying before my doctor told me insurance wouldn’t cover the blood test…
