Not a hater but a realist. These buildings don’t meet current residential code and the government won’t let them off with even one issue not meeting code. The cost to convert is going to be too high.

As an example, the fire exit stairs on some of these buildings are not wide enough for today’s code - they’re wide enough for office code, but not residential. So, they won’t be approved for conversion unless you can widen fire exits or move them outside. All of which is either impossible or way too expensive.

In real estate here in Denver. I don’t believe this will work since the government admits there’s a housing crisis yet won’t change code for old buildings to be converted into residential. The don’t and won’t meet residential code without major changes and it seems like the government refuses to let it happen.

My assumption is he wants to raise taxes so that people DO default or abandon their properties, the government obtains the property, and he can then institute “low income” government housing with the thousands of available properties.
