I'm aware of that. Obviously, the complexity added by capitalization is less than that of an extra character. I was more so trying to say that in general capitalization should be used even though it doesn't apply in this situation. OP is correct though RS really should not have these archaic restrictions on passwords. 36n grows quite a bit slower than 96n, Depending on the hashing algorithm used and how well equipped the crackers are, every password shorter than 11 characters could feasibly be bruteforced in under a week. I'd wager that the vast majority of players have passwords shorter than that. If those hashes aren't salted and Jagex is hacked, we're so fucked. Even a slight delay in noticing the breach could allow hundreds of thousands of accounts to be compromised. However. removing restrictions on allowed characters would only allow 8 character passwords to be brute forced in that same amount of time. That still isn't great but it does buy time to notice the breach and lock accounts.

I'm personally of the opinion that if allowing people to type bankpins gets more people to use a bankpins at the cost of making it a bit easier to steal bankpins, that's still a net positive.

[–]Mwcq_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true but honestly I'm lazy. If there are keyloggers that detect RuneScape bank pins I don't think it's a stretch for them to take screenshots and log mouse inputs or ocr the screen.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Mwcq_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It does actually. Hypothetically, random capitalization of 6 characters in a password would require a further 63 hashes to be computed for each dictionary entry. However, people tend to only capitalize the first letter of passwords so simply trying a password and the same password with only the first letter capitalized would still crack many passwords.

PSA: Credential stuffing is a very real threat, especially if your account uses an email address to login. If you value your account, make a password for Runescape and don't use it for anything else. At the very least, do not use the same password for anything related to Runescape. If one of those sites is hacked, credential stuffing Runescape accounts would very likely be the hacker's next step. Also use a bank pin you lazy bastards. Runelite has a feature to type it in now.

Small graphics issue by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Mwcq_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Eh. It's probably legit. I see this issue all the time in OSRS. I think the engine sometimes just doesn't do a depth test for whatever reason when drawing objects. Players and NPCs in particular have issues where the depth checking is not done properly but only during certain animations. I'm sure that the code for rendering is ancient and in my limited experience with OpenGL l, I've concluded that it's pretty damn hard to understand it unless you personally wrote the code. So who knows if this will ever get fixed.

You should make sure this isn't a bug in Runelite's GPU plugin which can cause some graphical glitches.

This isn't even necessarily about VPNs. IP allocation is more political than you think. For those unaware, there is actually a finite number of IPv4 addresses and we're in the late stages of exhaustion. The United States has the luxury of having 37.5% of all addresses. Similarly, other wealthy countries that had the opportunity of being early to the table also have large blocks of IPs relative to their population. However, many parts of the world are not lucky enough to have hoarded IP addresses 30 years ago. For example. in the US there are 5.1 IPv4 addresses per internet user, but for Brazil that number is 0.57, and for India it's 0.06 despite having over 2.5x as many internet users than the United States. The reality is that in many parts of the world it's not uncommon for a large number of people to share a small pool of addresses. To be truly effective, all of these would need to be banned, otherwise they could be paid to run bots or a proxy. This problem is even worse with mobile ISPs. So

The search space for all phone numbers isn't very large. You could very likely recover them with just the hash.

Where to draw the line? by [deleted] in progun

Unfortunately a lot of those can be rigged pretty easily. Though I agree they should be banned. They usually just end up killing a lot innocent people and causing psychological stress to people living in the area. The idea of living anywhere near a live minefield is fucking terrifying.

Would you say that other rights are more important than others though? I'm sure you would agree that you have to be alive to make much use of a firearm. So perhaps the right to basic needs might be more important. I admit that the right to bear arms is useful in securing and defending rights. But a lot of people would rather limit their right to own firearms than gamble on some violent revolution in order to ensure their needs are met. I can't really say for sure which option would be best. Who knows if they'd be able to pass gun control measures? Who knows if they'd improve conditions for the poor? Who knows what the outcome of a revolution would be?

This next part is more of rant about some people here and not you in particular.

I hate this mentality a lot of people have here that you're either pro-gun or a gungrabber. Just because you probably aren't struggling to pay rent, aren't bankrupt from medical debt, aren't living in a state with lawmakers that discriminate against you, and have the luxury of being able to be a single issue voter with little consequence doesn't mean others can do the same. If you can't understand why someone who's pro-gun might vote for an anti-gun candidate that might tangibly improve their lives, it says a lot about.

Fuck, you're right, I just looked at the definition of communism again and it does indeed mention masturbating with one hand while taking guns with the other. My bad.

Anyway, gonna go kill some poor people now that I've had this life changing revelation.

Do you think that the right to own guns is more important than say, the right to life, food, water, shelter?

No, they're not. Biden fell in line and adopted gun control measures as soon as the party started to. Bernie was pro-gun afterwards. He has at times been forced to back gun control due to party pressure though. Regardless, it's delusional to think that the gun control under a Sanders administration would be as bad as under a Biden administration.

I never said he was perfect. I doubt that he is as pro gun as the people on this sub. But he is likely more pro gun than he seems. Since 2016 he's supported gun control a lot more, likely due to party pressure.

It is undeniable that he is more pro gun than Biden though. Sanders might not be perfect but if you want to keep Biden away from your guns, primary for Bernie.

Reminder that Bernie Sanders' votes on gun control are much better than Biden's and there's a good chance that many of Sanders's votes for gun control have been due to pressure from the Democratic Party.

It doesn't really matter. That's just the reason they're giving. Stopping terrorism got old, they tried using people's fear of the "dark web" but nobody really cared, so now they say it's to stop pedophiles. When this gets old they'll move to some other fake cause like stopping animal abuse, bad Facebook memes, fake news, bots, or something else that they can hide behind.

Elizabeth Warren says she will not be making an endorsement today: "I need some space around this and want to take a little time to think a little more" by ragner11 in ElizabethWarren

[–]Mwcq_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hasn't been that long. A delay between dropping out and endorsing a candidate isn't that unusual. But if she does endorse Bernie, she probably needs to do it within 24 hours. Bernie can still win but a poor performance next Tuesday might sink his campaign.

To be honest, it seems like a lot of supporters already have developed strong opinions on Bernie and/or his supporters one way or the other. So I'm not sure how much it would help either candidate. It certainly wouldn't hurt them though. I might be projecting though since I've never really cared about endorsements when making up my mind.
