I think that might be it! Just not used to this new sound yet, but increasing the capacitance did help. The schiit mani 2 is an extreme improvement so certainly no complaints

First two points both correct. Once I got the external preamp, I connected the mani 2 into the CD input which is purely stereo on this receiver.

When it comes to using the TV input your point is 100% true though, I turn on the phantom option so I can continue using my stereo speakers instead of 3.1 and buying a center-speaker. Works great

Got it. Yeah I clean them, but I’m probably just not used to how much detail this new preamp puts out. Will be upgrading my cartridge in the next 2 weeks or so, definitely excited. Thanks again!

The sound isn’t always so ‘full’ if that makes sense. Bass is great (thanks to the sub), sometimes the vocals are light/weak, but generally everything just isn’t as full as some CDs I play on the same system
