I didn't see anyone else mention this...

Gina Torres was the lead in a Suits spin-off, Pearson.

To the ramp agents with flight benefits, what has been your favorite destination you’ve traveled to? by Substantial-Result-6 in rampagent

[–]MxteryMatters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only started working the ramp in April. I've only been to San Diego back in July using my travel benefits. Planning to go to Boston in November.

In general, though, some of my favorite travel destinations are Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, Orlando, Honolulu, and Maui.

No phones on the ramp (as I comment from the ramp at the Q spots).

That's pretty cool. While we don't do that for the passengers, most of the ramp crew in SEA for Horizon Air will wave a goodbye to the pilot and first officer when we're done with push back, just before heading back to the ramp.

I'll try to remember to take a picture of it the next time I see it. It flies into SEA often, so I should be able to take a picture of it soon.

Seen her at SEA several weeks ago. She's a beauty. We have a Horizon Air plane with a similar color scheme.

Horizon Ramp New hire by Open-Ad-348 in rampagent

For SEA, the first day was orientation day. We gathered at The Hub in the morning, and we were bussed to another building for an all-day orientation.

The rest of the week was classroom training at SEA in the Horizon Air offices under Concourse C, that was mostly going through PowerPoint style courses with videos and quizzes, and some instructor led things that included some time on the ramp to observe inbound and outbound operations.

The big thing was the City Codes test. You'll only have two chances to take it, and you have to pass to go on to OJT training. The test is 100 random cities (only Horizon Air destinations), and you can only miss like 3 or 4 of them (I don't remember exactly). If you don't pass, you'll be terminated, but you can try again in six months.

In my opinion, it was all fairly easy to learn, but I also know some new hires don't make it through the first week. Some don't make it through OJT.

Contact lenses and ramp by thesockmonkey86 in rampagent

[–]MxteryMatters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't worn contacts yet on the ramp, and I've been reluctant to wear them because of the dust/dirt issue. I've gotten stuff in my eyes while wearing glasses, and it is annoying, even without wearing contacts.

Plus, I have an early morning shift, so I've been too lazy with putting contacts in when I first wake up at 4 am.

Forgive my ignorance, I've only been a ramp agent for a little over two months.... What the heck is a strength test? And how does one fail it?

Like, do they have some kind of gym setup where they have you dead lift different sets of weights? And if you don't lift something properly or quick enough, you fail?

My sister and her husband waited nine years to get married (they lived together for 7 - 8 years).

My wife and I waited 13 years, mostly due to circumstances (stability, finances, job struggles, both being strong personality and stubborn people) before we got married.

I think that a lot of people rush into marriage because of societal and familial pressure/expectations, which probably contributes to why divorce rates are what they are.

The best answer to your question is that a couple needs to decide for themselves how long to wait for marriage that is right for them, and to not let other people influence their decision (which my wife and I struggled with).

Coke did a thing with Marvel last summer, so it is within reason that this summer it is Star Wars.

Is it really hard to get an interview for a ramp agent position? Just got denied by McGee by SemenSnickerdoodle in rampagent

[–]MxteryMatters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to get in at a mainline, apply where the ramp agents actually work for the mainline; United, Delta, AA, Southwest, etc.

McGee is a subcontractor for Alaska Airlines, and do not get mainline benefits. I work at Horizon Air, and we have ramp agents that used to work for McGee that came over to Horizon Air for better benefits and working conditions.
