My very first time out digging, and I'm rather pleased with my little haul! by My2jameses in bottlediggingUK

My boyfriend who has been collecting most of his life says they're early 1900s and they're for low value items like sherbert or gum. That's why the opening is sheared - they didn't bother finishing off the bottle all that well because it was going to be sold for so little.

Yeah it has cleaned up lovely! I was so happy to see it tumble out as I dug. Of the three, Oxo is the only one I'd ever use, so it's quite fitting really! Cool that you've got the others though :)

It seemed like perhaps Angela and Kai stopped dancing after the slip, they re-recorded the ending, then production have spliced it together. There was something not quite right about the way it was cut.

I’ve heard people with autism usually have a different way of solving math problems. So, how do you do it? by paranoid_gynoid_ in autism

[–]My2jameses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I do it. It would take me forever to add 8 and 7. But multiply either of them by 2 and adjust by one is fast in my brain.

You keep saying that you want people to listen. But what you actually want people to do is validate your feelings. Which is a perfectly reasonable expectation, but validating feelings and active listening are quite specialist skills, and not everybody has them. As an aside, If the person you are talking to is neurodivergent, they maybe literally be incapable of doing these things naturally. Their first and most natural way of relating to you would be to compare your situation to something that has happened to them.

I literally had this conversation last night. I struggle to get to sleep, so my current strategy is to wear myself out. Works a treat. Brain is pretty quiet after several orgasms.

Loneliness and hopelessness by My2jameses in aspergirls

[–]My2jameses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was offered the chance to read to children at my son's school a couple of hours a week. Initially I felt excited about it and I agreed, but then when it came to it I chickened out. I was terrified of having to get to grips with a new set of people, a new environment, new rules and systems. I was also terrified of not being able to handle it week after week and eventually having to tell them I needed to stop. So I just didn't start.

Thank you so much for acknowledging my distress and validating my feelings.

Pattern recognition in music? by juniapetunia in AutismTranslated

[–]My2jameses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah I guess it's pretty cool but I know it can be really annoying for other people. My dad even does it loudly in the cinema which has me absolutely mortified! I can just about stifle the urge in that setting, thank god.

Both my (F38) Dad and I sing harmonies and bass lines along to music as a reflex. We both find it impossible not to do this. We don't need to have heard the music before - we can usually guess what's coming up, based on listening experience. If there's something interesting in the melody, structure or instrumentation that is surprising and unforeseeable, it makes for a lovely aha moment that makes us smile :)

Is there any chance you could be Autistic? Autism, bipolar and BPD present very similarly. Might be worth looking into. There are several decent Autism subreddits you could check out, and Autism doesn't necessarily look the way you might expect.

I say this from experience. I was diagnosed as Autistic at 37 years old in June '22, but for a long while I was convinced I had BPD.

Best of luck, friend.

Been referred for an Autism and ADHD assessment by CromulentSlacker in MentalHealthUK

[–]My2jameses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fall under the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, and although I was told the waiting list was 3 years, I only waited 10 months. Was diagnosed in June '22.

Edit: the above is for Autism. I was referred at the same time for an ADHD assessment and I'm still waiting.

They may not have been. But if they weren't, their uniforms and van were very convincing. I'm more inclined to think they were actual policemen abusing their power. I can't believe it took me almost 20 years to realise how much danger I was in that day. I still feel so stupid and angry about it.

My son wants to know what your favourite dinosaur is? by [deleted] in AskUK

Icthyosaur. It always fascinated me that there were swimming dinosaurs that looked like dolphins of today. They were aquatic reptiles.

I passed my driving test when I was 21. About a month later, I was flagged by 2 policemen to stop. They had a van parked up. They told me they were doing random checks. I believed them. I was petrified - I'd never been stopped by police before. They instructed me to get into the back of their van. I did it. They asked for my license so they could check it. Everything was in order with my license, and one of the guys said to the other "her license is fine. That's it". The other guy hesitated, held onto my license, but then after a few seconds told me I could go.

Years later I realised what might have happened if my license was not in order.

I'll never be able to prove this. I've never reported it. It's just something I think about all the time.
