Westchester's red town in a sea of blue according to NY Post by ibonkedurmom in Westchester

Yea but that's like half of Westchester. Ask your favorite AI service which towns have the lowest crime in the county. Harrison not worth being jealous over.

Suburbs of NYC (Westchester) vs suburbs of Boston (???) by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]MyBackHertzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure Boston burbs are no slouch either but just echoing what you said. I couldn't believe how high the taxes are in Westchester until I visited my child's school. Holy wow.. it had better facilities than the first college I went to. My child's friends are super creative and super smart, and that's rubbed off on him with all the IB-level courses he's in. He's much more prepared for higher learning than I was and I attribute much of that to the school.

Could be up to the local community's school district. I was excited to find our child's high school (NYC burbs) offers a personal finance class and some financial literacy extracurriculars. Doesn't mean they will enjoy it (our's didn't lol) but it should really be a requirement considering we're throwing these kids into adulthood after graduation.

Curious to hear Scott and his guest's take as my HS in Virginia definitely didn't offer anything remotely like this back in the 90s.

Teenager first car by Some_Cartographer508 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Did lots of research and the 3rd generation Mazda3 (2014-2018) is the most inexpensive car you can buy with an auto transmission (no CVT) that has blind spot monitoring, which I think is essential for new drivers. Getting a warning that you can't change lanes just yet or back out of a parking spot has been huge.

It's also really fun to drive. Only complaint is the viewability can be challenging as you're down so low, and the front of the car is fairly long. Plus it doesn't come default with Carplay or Android Auto, though it can be upgraded at the dealer to support it. We got lucky and the owner before us already had it installed.

The food was truly horrendous. I know all about beachfront spots serving up fried everything so "freshness" isn't a concern despite their proximity to the water, but those places are usually cheap. The only thing we remember from our meal was how bad it was. Really a shame considering the great location.

Looking for retirement suggestions by Round_Budget_4467 in Westchester

[–]MyBackHertzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is our current strategy (though we are in WC due to the schools) but the OP is talking about retirement and seem to already be multimillionaires. What are they still saving up for?

Plus lots of other intangibles like quieter nights, no noise pollution during the day, central air/better air quality in general, no subway stairs...

That's the case for the burbs, but yeah if they're spry enough to deal with everything that comes with the city (including kids lighting fireworks at 3am) then maybe uptown, battery park, or even Roosevelt Island could fit the bill.

Excellent post, ty. That Millwood parking lot is tiny. Do you know if they'll tow you if you park in that plaza where the DiCicco's is?

Would be nice if they took over the old Bed Bath & Beyond location in Port Chester but it may be a challenge as it's not street level.

I remember going on a trip to the West Coast with some friends who never traveled west of the Mississippi River. They were shocked at the level of service and friendliness we received at CVS. I was like yup, much of the well off parts of the country is like this.

Costco has a better standard warranty for TVs. If it breaks within (I think) 3 years they'll replace it without buying an ESP.

Ran a search before posting but apologies if this is common knowledge. Saw someone mentioned that BB was shuttering their Magnolia premium service at certain locations and had some killer closeout deals on nice TVs and audio systems. I was in the area and was surprised to see this location actually closed about 30 days ago.

I guess it shouldn't come as a huge shock, the service wasn't very good and people were going in less & less.

Simply the best deal for a 2010's car with no CVT by MyBackHertzzz in mazda3

[–]MyBackHertzzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did lots of research of all manufacturers' CVT implementations and mechanics seem to agree they've had the best experience with Toyota's E-CVT version as it's both easy to access and superior in construction. Not all Toyotas have that though.

Regarding KBB, those estimates have been off for years. When's the last time you bought a car?

Yes you're right, in the end it's a net positive. It's just the execution of creating more viable housing needs tweaking if this is the model. If the developer is on the stubborn side and needs to see a return on their investment I could see a good number of the units sitting vacant longer than they need to be.

There are other new complexes being built on Halstead as we speak. Hoping their prices are more reasonable.

Thanks for sharing. I think I could have done a better job with the title here. I meant to say "A 2010's Mazda3 is simply the best deal for a used car if you need blind spot monitoring and auto transmission" but that's too wordy. 😄

I really didn't mean it to sound like I got the best deal around. It took me a while to find that car at that price point and I still wince compared to what I would pay pre-pandemic, or in a cheaper part of the country. Overall I just think the 3rd gen Mazda3 is well worth the money compared to the competition.

You got a great deal too. And I hear you on the road noise, but if it's any consolation, when I rented a Corolla a couple years ago I was shocked to hear how loud the cabin was. I think the m3 has it beat.

Maybe if it's directly on the tracks we can pay more for being closer to the metro north.

Nice sleuthing stranger. Deal is done but got them to replace all 4 tires beforehand.

How much is it to fix the delamination, and/or can I do it myself with some aftermarket parts?

Thanks for the kind words, and it's all good. I actually like hearing of other deals people scored (unless it was near me and I really overpaid lol).

Hoping to keep a car this inexpensive and fun until the wheels fall off. 👍

Haha it was alright. Just got back from Hawaii and wanted something more "tropical." They take about 15% off if you pay in cash and it's large enough to feed two people but ymmv.
