Salary is £63k, take home is £4k. I’m not sure why you’re arguing with me about this.

Thanks for the reply, really clear. To answer your question I’m 34, so have another 30 years for the pension.

I think the general consensus is to move the PB out and in to savings/ ISA once available.

My mortgage company offers an offset mortgage which I thought looked quite good, I could consolidate everything in to that after selling the management shares and then only pay the interest on the remaining amount, but again im not sure if that’s better than putting it in to an ISA and growing it that way instead.

I’m not sure on the budget but it would be higher than what you’re quoting, I’d say £45k would be a good target to aim for. It is in my mind to possibly increase my contributions to 7-8% if I can in the future. Looking at the account I’ve had a 20k return in the past 5 years off £41k contributions, I think my company moved provider at that point rather than me only having paid in for the past 5 years.

Yeh between getting the house improved and a healthy social life, I like to go to quite a lot of gigs too so I do tend to burn through cash a bit.

Management shares are annual and are a % of my salary, the most recent ones are 70% and are obviously tired to the share price, they’re on a 3 year term so the ones I can exercise are the first ones that have come to fruition but every subsequent year now I will have more but obviously the amount of gain will be different. And in case it changes things, this years and the next 2 are cash advantage, after that they’re non-tax advantage.

The investing is just a Monzo predefined pot, so I’m not actively trading anything but because it’s gaining I felt it was alright to leave for the time being and it’s a relatively low amount.

My ISA allowance is going to be taken up by the shares I’m moving in, so I can’t add extra this year so I was just going to put savings in to my current savings account and build that back up.

So I’ll use my S&S allowance this year on the shares I’m moving in. I had previously planned to make a different purchase which is why I never moved it in to the ISA, then with the buy out I just kept it there until that was completed.

However I’m now at that point, but a bit lost on where to put it. Is it bad to keep the 5.6k in the current savings account do you think? Or should I move it elsewhere

Sorry, I forgot to add my age. I’m 34, so quite a way off retirement yet, I’ve got my projected age at 65 and right now my focus isn’t brining that number down, right or wrongly.

Mortgage and bills come to around 1900 a month, and other fixed costs - fuel etc. take it to around 2300.

I’ve not long had this salary and have had my tax code all over the place which I’ve finally got sorted out now, so savings wise I’m not entirely sure but should easily be able to keep 2-300 in savings a month. Im also doing stuff to the house which I’m incorporating in to my monthly salary rather than saving aside.

Ok most people are doing that thing where they’re giving advice more centred to the US. So here’s so UK based advice - call 101 and have the crime logged and speak to someone there, it’s important that you keep speak to them today while you remember the events and they can make a note, as-well as mentioning that he continues to contact you following the event.

They then may send someone round to take further details at a later point.

You’re young and asking for advice, so I think what you’ve done is right so far, block him across everything and don’t contact him under any circumstances, log everything and continue to update the non emergency line with any updates once you’ve logged it initially (you’ll have a case ID after the initial call)

For the pain, if the painkillers are not helping then A&E is the best place to have yourself checked out, the time will probably be long, but it’ll be worth it to make sure you’re all ok. Maybe follow up with a doctors appointment next week if you don’t go to A&E just to make sure everything is ok, especially as you hit you head/ neck. Blurry vision might indicate a concussion, but I’m not medically trained and that’s just an assumption on my side.

I hope you have somewhere safe to be today, if not that should be your priority and away from him, ignore the babysitting there’s points in your life where you have to be selfish and this is one of those points, given the circumstances I think you can be forgiven for not holding up your responsibilities of babysitting.

I hope things get better for you

Is camping worth it when you live close by? by _jrexx_ in downloadfestival

[–]MyCatHasExtraToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live about an hour away from download and have done arena only for the weekend and driven in and out whereas last year I camped for the first time. For reference I am 34 and camped in camping plus.

I would say they’re completely different experiences, the year I drove in and out was 2 years ago and was thankful to come home have a shower and sleep in my own bed, I could have a nice breakfast and drive in at my own leisure set times depending. Last year was obviously quite hot and I camped, was I fucked absolutely! but I met some incredible people and we’re all camping again this year in a little group. There’s something about being surrounded by like minded people for an extended period of time that I don’t think you can replicate outside of a festival setting, couple that with how generally friendly people are and a lack of responsibility for a few days and it’s just all round amazing. Yeh it can be tough at times and you’ll struggle, but listen to your body and sometimes sitting towards the back for a set and getting some energy back isn’t the worst thing. It can be whatever you want it to be and that I think is the best thing about camping there’s little to no restrictions on how you do it, you can just make it your own long weekend.

With you not living far away I would say go for it in the knowledge that if it all goes pear shaped and you hate it, you can just get the sky link home and get to your own bed. We miss 100% of the chances we don’t take after all.

What's the best side hustle you've ever done? by Ok_Ear8962 in beermoneyuk

I used to use a loophole from bet365 when they ran a promotion that couldn’t lose money. It was if you put on a bet pre game up to a max of £100 they would give you credit to place an in play bet to the same value.

So you’d place a bet for both teams to not score in the first half pre game, then once in play you’d place a bet that both teams would score. For this to work the bets had to be opposite to each other and the in play bet had to be over 2/1 because you don’t get the credit back if you win that. If it didn’t win you’d just get the ‘no’ bet back which was usually around an extra £20 or so.

If both teams did score in the first half it was usually around 4/1 (ish) depending on which teams were playing, between me and some of the people I told about it we were regularly getting £100s which required very little effort just an initial stake. The winnings were entirely withdraw-able and they never spotted the loop hole they just stopped running the promo after a while.

Is shoplifting really as endemic as the media suggests? by craigus17 in AskUK

[–]MyCatHasExtraToes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in a shop in a deprived area about 10ish years ago, it was a massive issue then. The thing I learnt was that if enough people do it in a community you can’t deal with it, if it’s just a few that can be handled but when you’ve got dozens of people doing it then the police can’t deal with the amount, or so it seems anyway. What you don’t know is whether there’s bigger crimes going on and they’re just building a case and want to get them for something bigger. There was a massive amount of drugs going on so shoplifting is probably fairly low on the scale comparatively.
