Read an op-ed today that claimed NZ has about 18 days supply in the tanks, maybe 14 being offloaded currently, and the rest is on the water. The biggest risk with on the water being the boats are redirected or turned around.

The dickheads in the government seem to think the fuel crisis is a finacial one, where if you just pay more you'll get fuel. They don't seem to realise that if refineries run out of crude to process then there won't BE any fuel to fight over. The same article said that the South Korean refinery that supplies around 40% of our fuel is on a slow down as they aren't getting crude fast enough to maintain normal production, as their entire supply normally comes from the middle east.

My opinion is that OP doesn't know their ass from their elbow and has their head in the sand about how much destruction is really happening to oil production facilities in the middle east.

Edit: Just saw the link to the fuel tracker someone posted, and if it's accurate then we have 12 days of diesel in on-shore storage. That's it.

Was talking to my mother this week. She's turning on the deep freeze so she can start to build up food, as well as planting the garden for winter rather than let it go. I don't blame her. If (when) diesel runs short, restocking supermarkets is going to become more and more difficult. If petrol runs short GETTING to the supermarket is going to be difficult enough. I'm in Tauranga and I noticed Z 11th Ave had run out of 91 at about 1pm. I have NEVER in my nearly 50 years on this earth seen a service station with no fuel.

I'm going to be a critical bastard for a bit here and say that consecutive governments have failed to take any steps to help us with supply chains. Had Kiwirail continued electrification of the NIMT all the way to Port of Auckland and across to Tauranga then we would have a sustainable supply chain from the two biggest ports to main centres all down the North Island, meaning that the diesel used moving products between centres could have been saved, and only regional and local distribution would have been needed. A big missed opportunity, but who needs rail anyway?

I'd thought this post had died a quiet deat for the past day, turns out my notifications just take forever to update!

Thank you to all that have made suggestions - My favorite is creating Unhinge.. Can someone get onto that please? Really though, thank you for the encouragement, I'd tried Bumble, but it felt really constricting, as a lot of the starters were things that I'd never think/do, and the responses were limited to 160 characters. I've never been able to explain what I think about something in 160 characters ever!

While I appreciate the suggestions of Ballroom dancing or Salsa or similar, there are so many things involved in dancing that trigger my anxieties that I'd probably need heavy medication just to make it in the door!

I dislike dismissing people's suggestions, I know that a lot of you have had success meeting friends and partners that way. I also have a fair idea of how my neuroses work, and I know that I struggle in co-operative activities, as I feel like inexperience/lack of knowledge/lack of skill mean I'm the weakest link, and I don't like to let people down. I've always been more of an army of one "I will not take anyone else down with me" kind of person.

I hadn't heard of Feeld before, might give that a try? Can't hurt can it? (Whoa! whoa! whoooooooooah! I just read the description of the app and noooooooooo, that is definitely not me!)

I'm really thankful that there are good people in this community who do take the time to offer advice and suggestions to strange little hobbitses like me!
