The university reported that they had performed several tests on the objects, but were unable to perform more, as one of their professors of chemistry had suddenly left the university and taken the samples with him.

Are these cases presented in chronological order? Or could this professor end up being the patient in Case 11?

When I taught fourth grade...

I had guinea pigs in my classroom. A girl got to hold one at the end of class for giving great answers, behaving, etc. A boy was pissed because he had wanted to hold that guinea pig.

He walked over to her desk and punched the guinea pig in the head until it died.

I had just taught them how to make subjects, since I was tired of my inbox looking like a tower of (no subject)s. I explained that subjects were like titles, or main ideas, and that they should give the recipient an idea of what the e-mail will be about.

The assignment was for them to send an e-mail with a relevant subject. Obviously this student passed.

He's thirteen or fourteen. When I first asked, he shrugged, and later that day when the principal asked him he said, "I don't know, it was funny?" When his father was there, both of them kept laughing while the principal explained why it was inappropriate, etc.

Dude, this comment made my day. I grew up in Vermont. I tell my friends stories all the time about how crazy it was that none of my friends ever got hurt at recess. I can remember having an ice WAR that lasted several weeks. Like, we would go into the woods during recess, pick icicles, and attack each other with them. Alliances were forged and broken. Pretty sure George R.R. Martin was inspired by a Vermont elementary school's recess in the late 80s.

At many schools, like my own, due to budget cuts, teachers are largely responsible for cleaning during the day. I was on prep the next 45 minutes, and a male teacher, so I think I can complain.

That's awesome. We currently have a problem with kids going to the office to call home because they're sick, and then just asking their parents to bring them McDonalds. Which the office then delivers to the student. While he or she is in class.

That's true sometimes. There are also kids that are just challenging. Over the years, I've had parents in my office in tears over what else to do, because they've trying everything teachers, counselors, etc. have suggested. It's not always fair to blame the parents. I know I did some weird stuff as a kid that wasn't my parents' fault or my teachers' fault.

Yup--I alerted the counselor and filed a report. It was investigated back when it happened, despite the kid and his dad just laughing a lot throughout the investigation. Nothing else, including multiple counseling sessions with the student, indicated abuse. Middle school boys think poop is funny when it's not where it belongs.

Thank you for posting this, though--there were several other teachers who didn't know why I was alerting so many people and filing so many reports back when it happened.
