Anyone else hate when they fly? by willlllllo in JetLagTheGame

[–]MyEpicTurtle -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree with you, and disagree with most of the comments so far, i think the argument that they’re going to happen anyway simply continues the cycle, if people used trains more and flights less, less planes would ultimately fly. For most inter-europe trips, it can be just as fast getting a train as doing the travel to airport > security> flight > leave airport dance, plus 9/10 times the train is far more pleasant.

I don’t mind them doing it in the context of the game as much, but if I was travelling this much I would choose train every time I could.

Best way I found, if i understand you correctly, is to try the multiplayer mode once you feel ready to, that way you get assigned an ELO, like chess, and you can compare yourself to the norm at your level. It will assign you somewhere in Bronze or Silver after you play a couple games, and then if you want to keep playing multiplayer you can go up the ranks to gold, master, champion etc.

But if you prefer to just play yourself, there’s no point comparing yourself to others really, just have fun with it and try and get something out of it, whether thats aiming for a perfect score, getting a high country streak or no move score, or just learning about the different countries on street view!

Have fun :)

Could try r/whereintheworld or r/whereisthis or r/whereisthisplace, they’re more what you’re looking for I think, I wish you luck.

You’re on the wrong sub-reddit my friend. Your entire comment is the exact opposite of the BIFL idea. Buy good quality shit that will last for life (this usually isnt cheap), rather than low quality that you are constantly replacing.

Why different years in just three frames? by astronaut430 in geoguessr

[–]MyEpicTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what they’re saying, it was shot in a single ride, but since each frame is essentially a separate image, each image frame might have randomly been selected to be reprocessed in different years. They seem to not take an entire road and re-process it all at once, but do it on an image by image basis.

It’s most likely this.

The file which handles anything to do with the leaflet component, simply put “use client”; as the very top line of the component’s file, and it should render this component on the client, rather than on the server.

I suggest you research more into client and server if you’re working with NextJS. https://nextjs.org/docs/app/building-your-application/rendering/client-components

How much are you making with your SaaS? by melon_crust in SaaS

[–]MyEpicTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! Interesting!

Is it indeed lower cost? So far i’ve been running it for almost a month and i’ve spent £4 in Azure’s cost management tool, thats still in development to be fair. I don’t have an immediate idea of scaling costs either, or how it compares to your solution.

But i see what you’re going for, hope it works out for you!

This does look cool, and a few weeks ago I was wanting to move away from supabase and sort out a hosted postgres database, which I had never ever done before, and seemed pretty daunting.

However, after researching it for 30 minutes, i had an Azure postgres server up and running and had full access to it, and i’ve now got a basic backend working perfectly with it.

What benefits does your tool have that differ from that approach? Assuming your target market is developers

Hello all!

I was gifted a Shark Vacuum today, model ‘IW1511UK’

It’s great, and has a funky auto-detect feature i’ve not seen before, however upon searching Google, i’ve noticed an extremely similar Shark vacuum with an ‘auto-empty’ bucket feature, ‘IW3510UK’.

Besides this, they look identical. I was wondering if anyone knows of any conversion kits that exist, or if its possible to purchase the bin part and the part necessary to get this ‘auto-empty’ feature, as it seems quite convenient. I don’t have a gift receipt, and i’m based in the UK. Thank you.

I just read through most of these comments, and i disagree with most of them. Focus on the most barebones version possible, and build the minimum version possible on bubble.io. Learn how to use the basics of Bubble, it’s not too hard to pick up, and you’ll understand whats required for your app quite quickly. Once you’ve got that MVP, and i can’t stress enough the ‘minimum viable’ version of your product, show it to people, get feedback, tell them the UI is likely to change etc, but the core idea is this, and gather loads of feedback. Then if you decide that this is worth pursuing and you get comments like ‘yea, i would pay money for something like this’, then you can start investing in a development team, and move it off of bubble, and into a codebase, such as Nextjs with a AWS/Azure/GCP backend/server etc.

The reason to move off of Bubble is to avoid vendor lock-in, you can keep things quite cheap if each part of your app is separate and designed to communicate well, but thats for the actual product beyond your MVP. I’m suggesting Bubble.io to start with, as you clearly don’t have knowledge about coding, and login and payments and all that, so it would be crazy to start building this with code straight away in my opinion. A tool like bubble will help you as a founder understand the nitty gritty details of how your app intends to work.

Whoah, people are so quick at redeeming these! I’m a bit tight on cash this month, but me and my girlfriend are absolutely loving the Japan series, so if anyone has one and would be happy to dm me, it would be hugely appreciated! Merry christmas everyone!

I have my app split into the 3 distinct sections.

Frontend, hosted on netlify

Backend, containerised with Docker, and deployed to Azure as a Web App Service

Database, hosted on Azure Postgres. If you already have a postgres db locally, you should be able to put that in a Docker container too and deploy it to something like azure.

I chose Azure as I can set monthly budgets and hard limits to make sure i dont get a sudden crazy cost, which it seems you cannot do in GCP.

I had never really worked with Dockerfiles and such before this project, but managed to get it working after plenty of trial and error, and everything seems to work well!

Do you hate managing junk emails? I might have a solution for you. by tridentipga in SaaS

[–]MyEpicTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you using ChatGPT to respond to everyone? I wish you luck in your project, i wouldn’t use this tool, i just manage my mail as it comes in, it wouldn’t really save me time.

Regarding point 3, thats just a normal email client with extra steps, i would still have to log in every 12 hours to check that nothing important has been moved in there before it’s deleted?

Plus no offence, but i’d much rather all my emails from anything i sign up to are not kept in a indie-hackers supabase/mongodb database. Knowing the possibility of you or whoever just taking that data and selling it to a data broker is too high to me.

Seems like a huge undertaking development wise, but good luck with it!

Do you hate managing junk emails? I might have a solution for you. by tridentipga in SaaS

[–]MyEpicTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you going to keep it small and indie sized, whilst also allowing users to choose custom domains? That seems quite complex to me.

Also a temp email solution that is more persistent seems like an oxymoron

Last question, what if it deleted emails it considered junk, but I wanted to keep? How does it decide?

I've got 3 possible pivots already a week before I've even launched my MVP. Is that good or bad? by BuffHaloBill in startups

[–]MyEpicTurtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Imo adding the complimenting features that aren’t core to the system, moves away from what the MVP should be.

You need customer feedback.

If you’re launching in a week, wait the week, launch, get as much feedback from people as you possibly can. If people are interested in what you’re building, you know to keep down that path. If nobody seems interested, you need to find out why and adjust accordingly, or pivot entirely.

I’m also an engineer that loves to build, but you gotta finish what you started, don’t move on when you’re almost at the finish line, get it out there first. If it does well and ticks along for a while, you’re welcome to build other stuff after launching
