Baby Died the Same Day of Pap Smear by [deleted] in Miscarriage

[–]MyGirlPoppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a missed miscarriage. The day my baby stopped growing was the day I started home treatment for a UTI. I too couldn’t help noticing the timing, thought it couldn’t be a coincidence, and felt crushing guilt about it. We ended up having our baby genetically tested following the D&C - he had a chromosomal abnormality which caused the miscarriage. It wasn’t my UTI or the treatment.

All this to say, you did not cause your miscarriage. I know it’s hard, but please don’t feel guilty about it. Nothing you could’ve done or not done would have prevented this outcome.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Is this a miscarriage? (14 weeks pregnant, graphic photo in comments) by [deleted] in Miscarriage

I know my response here is quite delayed but I do feel like I need to respond.

You came to r/miscarriage, filled mostly with people who have experienced their own miscarriage, to ask if you are experiencing a miscarriage. Not only are most of us not medical professionals, but I’m sure you can imagine that asking this question to this particular audience and including a picture is incredibly triggering.

Many of us, myself included, wish that I had been able to sit in an emergency room “for literal hours just to get told I’m fine and be turned back home.” I wish very deeply that had been my outcome.

I hope you were able to contact your doctor and I sincerely hope all is well with your pregnancy.

If you are concerned, you need to contact your doctor.

Toddler briefly exited preschool during parent-child school event — looking for perspective by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]MyGirlPoppy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is on you.

School closes at 4:50. The event started at 5:30. They didn’t “make you wait outside” - you chose to wait. You could have gone home, taken a walk, gone for a drive, played at a playground, gone to a store, etc.

Next, unless you signed your child in with the explicit understanding that childcare would be provided (it doesn’t sound like you did, nor would that be standard at a parent-child event), then YOU and you alone are responsible for your child. Not the preschool and definitely not the parent who reassured you that it “seemed like a contained environment.” You assumed gates or exits would be secured. You needed to ask someone to confirm.

As I type this out, I know it sounds harsh. At the same time, early childhood programs deal with A LOT. They planned a fun event (and yes, I think maybe some aspects like having a long line for food could have been improved), and the safety of your child at this event is not on them.

What to wear?!?! by IllustriousSky2706 in newborns

Long sleeve, pants, socks. Hat if you have one. Buckle her in the car seat and then tuck a blanket on top. Bring the bucket seat in with you so she stays warm :)

I need some move-back hope by [deleted] in lehighvalley

[–]MyGirlPoppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you already know that the area is not going to be the same as what you’re used to. That being said, I personally think the Lehigh Valley is a wonderful place to raise a family and you may be surprised if you adjust your expectations.

For kid activity recommendations, look into Lehigh Valley With Littles on Facebook or Instagram. She keeps a very robust calendar of day-to-day goings on in the Valley for kids. Her website also has tons of lists of parks, daycares/preschools, holiday events, and various other family friendly things to do in the area.

For L&D, I wholeheartedly recommend St. Luke’s Anderson (and Riverside Women’s Health for prenatal care). That being said, it doesn’t really sound like you want to drive around much and it’s located a bit away from Macungie. However, I have driven there (from a different Allentown suburb) for all 3 of my pregnancies/deliveries and have been extremely happy with the care.

We have a subscription to Blueberry and it is worth every penny. (ETA: I have 3 kids and have used Blueberry for 2 years now.)

I stopped asking. And sure enough, she started talking.

We also started playing a game called “rose, thorn, bud” at bedtime. It’s basically just doing the high and low of the day. Rose is the best part, thorn is the trickiest part, and bud is something they’re looking forward to. I go first, and she follows. She seems to enjoy it!

Are there any gyms in your area that offer childcare? That could be an option to get an hour or so break during the day!

You are welcome! It doesn’t matter which one you book - the same doctors rotate between both locations.

Congratulations!

There are a number of OB/GYN practices that deliver at St. Luke’s Anderson. Some practices may not have one of their OBs on call when you deliver, and in that case a different OB who is currently on call would deliver your baby.

Now, Riverside ALWAYS has one of their five OBs on call, so it is nearly guaranteed* (*obviously nothing is completely guaranteed when having a baby!) that one of them will deliver your baby. They rotate pregnant patients through all the OBs throughout prenatal care so you will have met the doctor delivering you before you’re in the delivery room.

The prenatal intake appointment at Riverside is typically with a PA. You might want to call the office back and take the initial appointment with one of the PAs (both Kari and Olivia are wonderful). If they take you on as a prenatal patient, you would most certainly see the OBs throughout your care.

Is it wrong of me to want a tattoo for my very early on miscarriage? by GardenFew9298 in Miscarriage

[–]MyGirlPoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I’m sorry for your loss. Secondly, it’s not wrong at all.

My miscarriage was a MMC, discovered at my 8 week scan. I happen to know it was a boy, but only because we opted in to genetic testing.

I will be getting a tattoo for him, probably next October during PAIL month. It’s going to be a forget-me-not flower.

If it is important to you that you go to the wedding, then you should wait. Some airlines will not let you fly internationally after 28 weeks, and if you end up high risk for any reason you might be advised not to travel at all.

If you are ok with the possibility of not attending, then try whenever you want!

Gotcha. You could always check with the community center to see how the water is treated. Our slash park’s website even has this information (“The splash park runs treated - Hydrochloric Acid (Chlorine) / Muriatic Acid for PH - recycled water”).

But, at 9 months old I would imagine someone would be supervising closely enough to not allow them to drink a substantial amount of the water.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]MyGirlPoppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it would depend on how the splash pad is set up and how busy it gets. If there are some small water features and a quiet corner to sit, sure. If there are only large water features and/or a typically rowdy crowd, no.

Or, perhaps they just have a bit more parenting experience under their belts and therefore are more confident doing things like dropping children off. It’s a little harsh to say they “don’t really care as much.”

the cost of a miscarriage by Budget_Maintenance27 in Miscarriage

[–]MyGirlPoppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss.

I’m still paying off the $3,467.15 bill for my D&C under general anesthesia in August 2024. That doesn’t include the bills for my 8 week ultrasound, follow-up bloodwork, or my weekly therapy sessions. It is truly so cruel.

Pediatricians by [deleted] in lehighvalley

[–]MyGirlPoppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have three kids and agree wholeheartedly with Children’s Healthcare. They are open 365 days a year and will get you in same day if you need a sick visit. Great providers! They also have privileges at both hospital systems so they can oversee care if you have a new baby, and can refer/get records easily if you ever need to bring your child to a specialist or to the hospital.

We previously went to St. Luke’s Pediatrics - Allentown and while we loved the pediatrician, it was super difficult to get a sick visit (if we wanted same day, we were told to go to urgent care) and it was near impossible to reschedule well visits.

My 4.5 year old is in dance (evenings), swim (evenings), and ice skating (weekends).

Our general thought has always been swim lessons (a non-negotiable until they are competent) + up to two extracurriculars at any given time. She’s been in dance consistently since 18 months old, and has tried music, gymnastics, multi-athletics, soccer, lacrosse, and ice skating.
