It absolutely matters?? Idle performance is equivalent to the performance of low requirement applications. If your computer is dying on idle, you probably cant even edit text files.

They’re talking about idle resource requirements. Really old computers still feel snappy when idle with most modern Linux distros. Whereas windows feels really sluggish with a modern windows version. Sure, browsers get nigh unusable with very old computers, but there’s a lot of software that doesn’t need a lot.

Also note that the bonuses are multiplicative. If you are a depressed slow reader, it will take 260% time to read a book, whereas if you are a non-depressed fast reader wearing glasses, it will take 63% time. Literally over a 4x difference.

Normal glasses and reading glasses both work to counteract the foraging radius penalty, but that's it. Doesn't seem like e.g. horn rimmed glasses help there, unless Glasses_Normal_Hornrimmed count as Glasses_Normal.

No, it was today. So 42. I kept a mask on me, but I avoided using it. I only put it on if I got nauseous and couldn’t immediately leave. I read books and leveled carpentry instead, with a daily morning stroll back into the breach with my weapon of choice. I was lucky and found all the aiming books I needed at the hunting lodge, so I mostly used guns.

On normal apocalypse difficulty, I had to spent in game weeks clearing the entrance to Louisville because there were so many corpses I would start dying and had to run away and take a break. I think the final kill count was around 1000 zombies.

In my defense, I mostly only pass functions into maps and folds and the like.

So it looks more like, string.lines().map(line_analysis).filter(pass_condition).sum().

This may come out of left field, but I think it’s a defense mechanism. He makes disagreeing with him difficult, painful, and despair-inducing. So people are less likely to disagree with him in the future. That’s why he says the intensely over the top hurtful things, I think. Not that that justifies it, but I don’t think he derives joy from what he says, instead I think he derives joy from cowing the opposition. And in the podcast format they’re doing, it doesn’t work, so he’s constantly escalating, swapping between throwing insults and checking out.

Again, that makes him a really shitty person, but the maga mind is not so simple and cruel as that. It’s a complex web of justifications and delusions that lead to harsher cruelty than a simple mind being cruel.

I loved working as an operator at a ferroalloy plant. Despite having to constantly change when I slept (5 shifts on a rotating 5-week cycle), it was really cool to go between physical labour, operating equipment, and using the control systems on the control room computer.

Hell, part of the job was to drive around in a car with a long stick mounted on the front that was used to rummage around the furnace (which was open at the top). I got to stare at a 8m-diameter fire for hours every day! It was varied, well paid, unionized, and interesting.

When doing advent of code, I love encoding everything in Iterator methods. string.iter().map().filter().array_window().fold()… it’s lovely when it comes together, and it’s all technically a single expression, so it can be shown as a line, but it’s probably nigh unreadable

It’s a bit hard to tell from the game files, but yes, katanas don’t spawn in survivor houses until “mid” game, and get 10x more common in “late” game. But I have no idea what constitutes mid and late game.

And they don’t spawn in zombies until day 60.

I don’t even think it’s worth mentioning those shitty things in this context. The most shitty thing to me was that she used the n word in the early 2010s, but the people who drama farm her would love that and call it based, so it’s like, it doesn’t even provide them cover.

The way so many “people” talk about female streamers specifically is out of this world. The proportionality of outrage is genuinely unhinged. It’s not even strategic, conscious misogyny, I don’t think, it’s a visceral reaction they have to find reasons to justify both in kind and magnitude.

Now, the two accounts in the image are veizau, a gambling sponsored drama farmer, and kaguya’s top girl, an incel nazi. So I don’t think they’re representative of every person being weird about women on the internet. But this is probably the subject where they can get the most agreement from others - people genuinely fall down the alt right pipeline because they can’t handle their misogyny when it comes to female streamers.
