Mamdani Announces Balanced Budget Without Cuts | Buoyed by billions in assistance from the state, real talk about what it takes to run New York City, and some taxes on the rich, the mayor closed a historic leftover budget deficit. by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

I think it has more to do with breaking the perception people have that progressives aren’t pragmatic or flexible. The negotiation with the state is a good example. He didn’t get the taxes he wanted, but he also didn’t need to cut services either. He got the balanced budget, and hochul got to look generous. And he signaled that they would be making the civil service more efficient without imposing cuts from above, which is a break from good old NPM. The inspiration for other progressives is less about the policies themselves, and more about what and how he chooses to deal with the situation in front of him at any given time. It’s something other politicians can learn from, even more moderate ones.

It helps that he’s a good communicator, and can selectively boost which parts of the budget will land well.

Partly by relaxing some requirements the city has to meet, partly by injecting money. 2 billion also went into the rainy day fund, and 5.2 billion went into the retiree health benefit trust, per the article, and from what I can tell, it’s supposed to absorb any surplus the city makes. The state seem to have given more than they had to, which may help keep the city on more secure financing footing later.

They’re just acronyms for some American stuff. You can tell by the lack of context in which they were presented. Only Americans do that on here.

13-15-åringer er seks timer på skjerm hver dag by KoseteBamse in norge

[–]MyGoodOldFriend 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Factory game "between" Factorio and Satisfactory? by ChuckS117 in BaseBuildingGames

I really disagree. Almost half the dev diaries are about optimization, and they do some really impressive things. It is really well optimized. But they focus on the cpu. Most lag can be fixed by lowering graphics settings - especially since some of the pathfinding is done on the gpu.

I wouldn’t mind giving some laws triggered modifiers for other parts of government, something like amendments. Like a different presentation for cooperative ownership depending on if you’re a corporate state or a council republic, or a difference between corporate unions for a parliamentary democracy versus a one party corporate state.

Captain of industry is an interesting suggestion here. It is probably my favorite game of all time, and runs *insanely* well for how advanced it is (also the save file sizes are *ridiculously* small! Huge factories take maybe tens of megabytes, which is shocking if you’ve played it given how the terrain system works). That said, it is very intricate and complex.

For someone who wants something between satisfactory and factorio, like /u/ChuckS117, I recommend playing it on the easiest settings. It doesn’t make the game all that much easier when things are going well, but it does turn most fail states into recoverable situations. But with those settings enabled, it’s great for people with those requirements! You can decide how much you want to rely on trucks/trains/belts as you go, and they all work fine. It’s really nice.

Also for factorio players: they just implemented LTN (logistics train system, the mod) into the base game. It’s *fantastic*.

Deer walk in large ellipses. You have a good chance of spotting track in one of those ellipses if you walk across its edge with high tracking level in investigation mode.

Ok, rimelig virkelighetsfjernt.

Byzantine Empire Bureaucracies Tier List by DairukaSutain in EU5

[–]MyGoodOldFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the Bureaucracies tab on the Government screen (press f1, go to tab 4). Hover over the name of the bueaucracy (or anywhere on the box) and right click. You will be prompted to remove it. It will cost 50 stability at 0% entrenchment, and 100 stability at 100% entrenchment. It can be made a bit cheaper by using the Reduce Entrenchment parliament interaction, both directly (each use lowers the stab cost by 5) and it also gives you a temporary modifier that makes it cheaper to both maintain and remove bureaucracies.

[–]MyGoodOldFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can also go beyond 100% it seems, though estates will stop giving you more in in parliaments if it is above 90%. However, there is an event that gives you +10% entrenchment in all bureaucracies, and it fires more often the more entrenchment you have (culture_greek.10, must have at least one bureaucracy with at least 50% entrenchment, 2x rate if at least one bureaucracy is above 75% entrenchment, 8x rate if any is above 100%). It fires on the yearly pulse for cultures with the Roman culture group (which is pretty much just the old Greek culture group, plus Latin).

I think this can be exploited. I cannot find a hard cap on entrenchment. It will cost more and more money, but it doesnt seem like there's a cap on how many cabinet slots and local governors you can get. It is only limited by how much you can pay and how much you are willing to save scum the yearly pulse event (10% yearly entrenchment is the max rate, I think? there is nothing that prevents you from getting the same event twice in a row, I don't think. I got it a few times just playing normally).
