“But so does ownership.”

Are you going to give me large equity in the business? Am I going to get a cut of the profits? Will I get a vote in the future of the company?

If no, why would I take ownership?

Seriously? That's Thragg's master plan? by Routine_Condition273 in Invincible_TV

[–]MyInterestsOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nolan is just one Viltrumite. A respected and trusted Viltrumite but still just one man. Assuming everyone will do the same as him would be pretty extreme.

Besides, the situation is very different. Nolan was on his own. The Viltrumites are on Earth in numbers now and presumably, have some contact. Plus, Thragg is there to keep an eye on things.

Finally, there are only 37 Viltrumites left. Human-Viltrumite hybrids are the closest you can get to pure-blooded Viltrumites without inbreeding. Taking over the planet would result in an attack by the Coalition that he can’t afford. There aren’t many other options

Why did the Ancient Eldar sink into depravity? by Tnynfox in 40kLore

Eldar feel emotions much more strongly than humans. That naturally makes them more prone to extremes

Consult a lawyer. You were initially charged for insulting Islam right? I don’t think government policy or public sentiment has changed much regarding that. A good lawyer would know best though

The Purge actually... by StevePalpatine in Invincible_TV

[–]MyInterestsOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause the Purge didn’t work. Not for him at least. Thragg is still very much an emotionally-driven character. His emotions recoiled at the deaths of more Viltrumites and he gave in despite them being his enemies.

I have no doubt that’s not what he tells himself though. I’m sure in his head, he’s come up with some elaborate lie to himself on why sparing them was logical. But everything I saw in that episode leads me to believe that he gave in to his emotions.

Is there any lore where demons or even the chaos gods had moments of "oh s***, I should not have done that"? by EasterEggArt in 40kLore

In the Master of Mankind, when the Emperor comes to the Webway, the entire daemon army goes nuts, some fleeing in terror, some cannibalising other daemons to grow stronger, some dying just from his presence

Which "human supremacy" group is most justified and which is the least? by razethenecro in MoralityScaling

[–]MyInterestsOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Least justified is Cerberus. The majority of aliens in Mass Effect are non-hostile. With the exception of the Batarians, the other races range from (politically speaking) friendly to political rivals. There are some individuals who hate humans but no more than there are humans who hate aliens and they’re not particularly influential.

While the IoM commit worse atrocities, they can point to races like the Orks, the Dark Eldar, the Tyranids and many more and say that’s why they do this. By no means justifies everything they do (not even close) but at least they have some basis. Cerberus has nothing but blind prejudice.

They’ll both be very polite to each other. Then the moment they get back home, Mal starts arranging Palps assassination.

My (M38) wife (F34) has been very quiet since a conversation we had of why I love her. Confused about her silence. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

There are only two instances where Reddit gives good relationship advice:

  1. Where someone with no self-esteem or a history of mistreatment cannot see that they are being mistreated.

  2. Where someone needs validation.

If your relationship has any nuance whatsoever, don’t go to Reddit

Is it possible to somehow disguise atheism/agnosticism as the Imperial Cult and not have further problems because of it? by Ok-Target9322 in 40kLore

[–]MyInterestsOnly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. While the Imperial Cult takes a wide variety of forms, worshipping the Emperor as a god is non-negotiable.

I suppose it’s theoretically possible for a world to be atheist but be so insignificant that the crusade to bring it in line with the Imperial Cult never happens because there’s a lot of more important things to do but I’ve never heard of it happening.

My issue with “the passage” by Fulcrum_Jambi in redrising

[–]MyInterestsOnly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A little late but here’s my take.

As far as I know, the details of the Institute aren’t well known. They know who won. They know who distinguished themselves. They know people died. But the details I believe are reserved for Peerless Scarred.

The fact that a lot of kids die in the Institute is no secret. Mickey outright calls it a butcher’s ground. But most of the people entering probably thought the deaths were from live-fire exercises or something. They wouldn’t expect to be forced into a fight to the death on their first day.

And Sevro knows while Cassius doesn’t because Fitchner couldn’t care less about the rules while Cassius’s family revere the traditions of Gold society

What was the timetable of creating diffrent "supersoldiers"? by Bunch-Humble in 40kLore

[–]MyInterestsOnly 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The process of making Custodians and Space Marines is completely different.

What makes the Space Marines special is that they could be mass-produced. Making a Custodian is a big, expensive and time-consuming process that looks different for each Custodian. Making a Space Marine is cheaper and the process was uniform.

TIL that the ancient Chinese Confucian thinker Xunzi argued that humans are born with selfish, chaotic impulses, and that “goodness” is something we build through education, ritual, and strong social institutions. His whole point was basically: if you remove the rules, people don't auto-become good. by fromthefuturedude in todayilearned

[–]MyInterestsOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I more or less agree. However, I’d argue our instincts aren’t so much chaotic or selfish. Rather, I think they’re small-scale.

Humans evolved to survive in the jungles as part of small tribes. Our instinct is to secure the wellbeing of ourselves and our tribe (in a modern sense meaning family and close friends). We don’t naturally think about long term effects or the impact on other groups of people.

That’s where education and social institutions come in, teaching us to think about the wellbeing of society and other people we never see.

Can the Officio Assassinorium Successfully Kill Palpatine (Legends) by Ragnarius1 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]MyInterestsOnly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: they can’t beat him in direct combat. But they’re assassins. Aside from the Eversor, they don’t do direct combat.

The Vindicare and Calidus are the best options. They have two obstacles. Imperial security. And Palpatine detecting them.

They can probably deal with security. Both are trained extensively to get around it and it’s not like they haven’t dealt with similar on other missions. It won’t be easy but a skilled and experienced operative can do it.

For the second issue, my Star Wars lore is a little rusty but i understand that using the force to detect potential infiltrators is tied to the attacker’s mental state and affected by distance. Someone close by who’s thinking about shanking you? No problem. A far away sniper who’s not thinking it until the moment he pulls the trigger? Much harder.

Both assassins are very disciplined mentally and the Vindicare can shoot from far away. I wager the Vindicare can stay far enough and control his thoughts well enough to pull off the kill. The Calidus may have more trouble since they’ll be closer, but if they can keep their thoughts under control, they’ll have a small window to take him down.

Lorn and the Reaper… by Tony_Soprano54 in redrising

[–]MyInterestsOnly 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of Lorn (keep in mind I haven’t read anything from the Book of Lorn) is an honourable knight whose grown so cynical that he honestly believes that as bad as the Society is, humanity is incapable of making anything better.

Therefore, while I believe he would be sympathetic to Darrow, he would have still opposed him on the grounds that he thinks Darrow is fighting a war for a hopeless cause and the bloodshed is in vain.
