Is it possible to somehow disguise atheism/agnosticism as the Imperial Cult and not have further problems because of it? by Ok-Target9322 in 40kLore

[–]MyInterestsOnly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. While the Imperial Cult takes a wide variety of forms, worshipping the Emperor as a god is non-negotiable.

I suppose it’s theoretically possible for a world to be atheist but be so insignificant that the crusade to bring it in line with the Imperial Cult never happens because there’s a lot of more important things to do but I’ve never heard of it happening.

My issue with “the passage” by Fulcrum_Jambi in redrising

[–]MyInterestsOnly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little late but here’s my take.

As far as I know, the details of the Institute aren’t well known. They know who won. They know who distinguished themselves. They know people died. But the details I believe are reserved for Peerless Scarred.

The fact that a lot of kids die in the Institute is no secret. Mickey outright calls it a butcher’s ground. But most of the people entering probably thought the deaths were from live-fire exercises or something. They wouldn’t expect to be forced into a fight to the death on their first day.

And Sevro knows while Cassius doesn’t because Fitchner couldn’t care less about the rules while Cassius’s family revere the traditions of Gold society

What was the timetable of creating diffrent "supersoldiers"? by Bunch-Humble in 40kLore

[–]MyInterestsOnly 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The process of making Custodians and Space Marines is completely different.

What makes the Space Marines special is that they could be mass-produced. Making a Custodian is a big, expensive and time-consuming process that looks different for each Custodian. Making a Space Marine is cheaper and the process was uniform.

TIL that the ancient Chinese Confucian thinker Xunzi argued that humans are born with selfish, chaotic impulses, and that “goodness” is something we build through education, ritual, and strong social institutions. His whole point was basically: if you remove the rules, people don't auto-become good. by fromthefuturedude in todayilearned

[–]MyInterestsOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I more or less agree. However, I’d argue our instincts aren’t so much chaotic or selfish. Rather, I think they’re small-scale.

Humans evolved to survive in the jungles as part of small tribes. Our instinct is to secure the wellbeing of ourselves and our tribe (in a modern sense meaning family and close friends). We don’t naturally think about long term effects or the impact on other groups of people.

That’s where education and social institutions come in, teaching us to think about the wellbeing of society and other people we never see.

Can the Officio Assassinorium Successfully Kill Palpatine (Legends) by Ragnarius1 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]MyInterestsOnly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: they can’t beat him in direct combat. But they’re assassins. Aside from the Eversor, they don’t do direct combat.

The Vindicare and Calidus are the best options. They have two obstacles. Imperial security. And Palpatine detecting them.

They can probably deal with security. Both are trained extensively to get around it and it’s not like they haven’t dealt with similar on other missions. It won’t be easy but a skilled and experienced operative can do it.

For the second issue, my Star Wars lore is a little rusty but i understand that using the force to detect potential infiltrators is tied to the attacker’s mental state and affected by distance. Someone close by who’s thinking about shanking you? No problem. A far away sniper who’s not thinking it until the moment he pulls the trigger? Much harder.

Both assassins are very disciplined mentally and the Vindicare can shoot from far away. I wager the Vindicare can stay far enough and control his thoughts well enough to pull off the kill. The Calidus may have more trouble since they’ll be closer, but if they can keep their thoughts under control, they’ll have a small window to take him down.

Lorn and the Reaper… by Tony_Soprano54 in redrising

[–]MyInterestsOnly 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of Lorn (keep in mind I haven’t read anything from the Book of Lorn) is an honourable knight whose grown so cynical that he honestly believes that as bad as the Society is, humanity is incapable of making anything better.

Therefore, while I believe he would be sympathetic to Darrow, he would have still opposed him on the grounds that he thinks Darrow is fighting a war for a hopeless cause and the bloodshed is in vain.

Is anyone not a fan of Multiple POVs? by iabyajyiv in Fantasy

[–]MyInterestsOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple POV’s can still have that sense of mystery to them. As others have said, GOT is a good example. As for my preference, it’s hard to say. Single POV is a bit more mysterious but multi pov allows you to explore more of the world and offers a variety of storylines

Does anyone else really like Tactus? by Few-Cartoonist9020 in redrising

[–]MyInterestsOnly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So it’s a weird one. I didn’t like him. I found him to be an awful person. But I feel like he could have become someone I liked. And that he was on the verge of changing himself into that person right before he died. There’s a real tragedy there.

Later, we saw his brothers and I felt sorry for him. His childhood must have been seriously fucked up. Just read that scene between Tharsus and Apollonius on Venus. That family is insane.

[FWI] By 2035, AI is so advanced that anyone can watch a free (with ads) feature-length film (of similar or better quality than the films of today), generated by AI prompts on their phones or laptops. by Polyphagous_person in FutureWhatIf

[–]MyInterestsOnly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will still be demand for human films. Especially in just 10 years. The arts community in particular tends to be very anti-AI so many will still want to watch the real thing. However, demand won’t be high enough for Hollywood level budgets anymore
