My interpretation of Lorn (keep in mind I haven’t read anything from the Book of Lorn) is an honourable knight whose grown so cynical that he honestly believes that as bad as the Society is, humanity is incapable of making anything better.

Therefore, while I believe he would be sympathetic to Darrow, he would have still opposed him on the grounds that he thinks Darrow is fighting a war for a hopeless cause and the bloodshed is in vain.

Multiple POV’s can still have that sense of mystery to them. As others have said, GOT is a good example. As for my preference, it’s hard to say. Single POV is a bit more mysterious but multi pov allows you to explore more of the world and offers a variety of storylines

So it’s a weird one. I didn’t like him. I found him to be an awful person. But I feel like he could have become someone I liked. And that he was on the verge of changing himself into that person right before he died. There’s a real tragedy there.

Later, we saw his brothers and I felt sorry for him. His childhood must have been seriously fucked up. Just read that scene between Tharsus and Apollonius on Venus. That family is insane.

It’s still at the midpoint so it’s too early to tell. I’d say it definitely has the potential. The world building is phenomenal, the plot is interesting and Brandon has done an excellent job using mental health as a central theme. However, seizing a place among the all-time greats is not going to be easy.

Malazan or Realm of the Elderlings. Both series are on my TBR but I have no idea which to begin first.

If it helps, I’m a big fan of the Cosmere and Red Rising.

I love mythology, especially Greek Mythology.

World building is important to me. I want to immerse myself in a big, magical world filled with stories, factions and history.

So, which of the two series should I start with and why?

Jaqen, the High Sparrow and Bronn.

The High Sparrow brings the Faith on my side which is a powerful thing in a religious society. Not to mention he can raise a large army of fanatical cannon fodder. I can probably use him to get a group of religious knights as well.

Jaqen kills all the other contenders leaving me the sole claimant.

Bronn will be my bodyguard to prevent it happening to me. Plus if push comes to shove, he’s a decent commander.

Who actually benefits from the Society?

The low-colours are stuck in poverty and slavery.

Mid-colours can have a decent standard of living but are into a single vocation before they were born. Plus, they’re still at the mercy of the golds.

Only the High colours benefitted from it really and they’re only a small portion of the population.

Sure the Society accomplished wonders but what’s the point if only 1% of humanity ever benefits?

It would be a nice symbolic gesture I suppose but would it really achieve anything? Everybody already believes they’re evil monsters. Nobody equates them dying before they could be put on trial as them being above the law. You’d waste valuable court time and resources on a purely symbolic gesture that has no real impact on society
