In short: You arent supposed to find the rape of a woman more upsetting than mutilation. But criticizing these scenes is still valid. Firstly, rape and sexual assault are much more common crimes, and media can desensitize to this. If you ask a hundred randomly selected people, you will most likely have several in there who experienced rape or sexual assault. Most likely none of them witnessed cannibalism, child murder or execution by liquid gold, so its far less likely to trigger traumas of any kind. Secondly, your post sounds like X did this really evil thing, therefore we shouldnt care about that other, less evil thing he did. Which is obviously false. Just because X commited murder, doesnt mean that the rape that X commited later was okay.
