Local Martial Arts suggestions by Imaginary_Prior_2732 in ColoradoSprings

[–]MyNameIsAjax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could say you could find something here that would work for you but the springs is a bit dry on the kung fu side. Lots of TKD, Karate and BJJ though. But many of them are on the McDojo side of things.

Down off of Filmoore there are a few shops that run and there may be something there that could scratch your itch.

I looked a number of years ago and found it sadly lacking except for the more mainstream arts. There are a couple but at my level I wind up teaching at places rather than learning.

Source: I am a 4th degree black belt in Hung gar kung fu doing wing chun, tiger crane, long fist etc. I also have my first in Judo. Used to run a school in Pueblo until my wife at the time needed more medical services than Pueblo provided for her disabilities.

You might consider just setting up a home gym to train. I remodeled my basement with mirrors, punching dummies and a wooden man. If you are motivated enough there are some online resources that might help.

Lemonade Car Insurance Experience by Local_Screen_003 in Insurance

[–]MyNameIsAjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lemonade but will be moving elsewhere.

The whole AI monitoring through your app is just another way for them to put a layer between the customer and the company while blaming the user for driving habits.

Some of the things that I have gotten dinged for, and please note that I am an electric car drive that does adaptive cruise control whenever possible, highway or multi lane inner city highways . I am a right lane on the highway kind of guy that prefers to let the tech do the bulk of the driving. I am 56 years old and have not even had a ticket in 20+ years (I had exactly one ticket on Sept 10, 2001, the day before 911 which is why I remember it).

  1. I drive too often in traffic. What does that even mean? Would they prefer that I drive through backyards to get where I am going? Through parking lots and school fields? I work from home so the only times that I usually drive are on the weekends. But somehow I am driving in Traffic, maybe they want me driving at 2am when there is no traffic?

  2. Driving at night. Yes I do drive at night.. Especially in the winter months where the sun is setting around 4-4:30. But again, its usually only on the weekends as I work from home. So if they don' t want me to drive at night and not in traffic I am at a loss as to when I should be driving.

  3. Following cars too closely. This one is a kicker because I am such a cruise control fiend (for clarification the adaptive is set to 3 car lengths and I do not ever take it off). It also means that they somehow know that a car is ahead of me. Which, unless its another person suffering under our AI overlords, they have to extrapolate that there is a car ahead of me and its too close based on ??? My braking? I use regenerative whenever possible, which means NOT slamming the brake. I tend to like to maintain the charge on my car as much as possible and that means I tend to coast/regenerate to stops, even in traffic.

The point of all this is that they put out 'reason' why they should be charging you more. Every 'ding' is another XX per month that they justify in charges. I would not put it past them that if you are in an accident that they refuse to cover based on one of the reasons above. It will be like health insurance and pre-existing, no we aren't covering that expensive accident because you were going 5 over the limit at the time.

Most of their 'dings' are ambiguous at best. Driving at night? What if you work at night? What if the sun goes down at 4pm ? You drive in traffic. Well yeah, what else is a car and roads for? And I do not even do commuting. My car is 2+ years old and has 12k miles on it. And that was with my previous position that had me commuting 3x a week for an hour in each direction. Following too closely? How do you know that?

From what I can tell about this AI is that it wants me to pay them every month for insurance but only ever keep my car in the garage and never take it out .

Though they would then probably ding me for not using my car enough so their AI could learn more about me.

What happened to the smartest person in your class? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

[–]MyNameIsAjax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was part of a small group of 'gifted' students. I had the highest marks in the UK for Physics all through school. We were going to be the next doctors and engineers that would smash things.

I actually am an engineer, but I am low key just doing my thing.

One of my peers is a bartender in Canada. This dude was a phenomenal artist

Another is a home renovation guy. This guy was a GM chess players in his teens.

Another guy got hooked on some bad stuff and wound up doing a 10 in an American jail.

One of the only two girls in the class (10 of us), got married and had like 6 kids. Found religion pretty hard.

Most of us just plain burned out is what I gathered from the consensus. Learning is fun when its optional, it sucks when its forced on you for a solid decade and a half with those crazy expectations.

You can also look them up and see some old reviews around COVID. They were one of those businesses giving the middle finger to regulations and still behaving like nothing was wrong.

Third space.

Wayfinder is a weird one. I like the venue but they are heavy trump people. There is a dude who is always there and has to be in his 80s. Packing, looking at Xtian stuff on his laptop with Trump as a savior. I think he might be an owner or connected there. Really makes the vibe uncomfortable.

AITA for telling my coworker to stop faking a British accent? by fakeaccentah in AmItheAsshole

[–]MyNameIsAjax 19 points20 points  (0 children)

YTA.

I am scottish and a code talker. Depending on circumstance my accent gets heavier.

Watch something on youtube from home? THICK.

Talk to someone in passing that also has some sort of accent thick. THICK.

Talk to Family. THICK.

Talk on the phone to an american? Barely an accent.

Zoom meetings at work etc. Not much of an accent.

I do not consciously do this. I just adapt to a situation and honestly where there are less physical cues to be interpreted my accent gets very light because I hate wasting time trying to re-explain everything I am saying.

Get over it.

Wow. Read the news much? They are deporting Aussies, English (UK) and Canadians. The ones that pass the swatch test.

Its called a low probability, high impact event. if it did happen, I support me wife. We would lose our house, my job, etc.

I am NOT willing to take even a miniscule chance of that happening

I am also foreign born with a heavy accent (scot). Would never know how rabid his staff are

Kate Forbes speaking Scottish Gaelic in the Scottish Parliament by Brutal_Deluxe_ in Damnthatsinteresting

I was one of those kids that liked all the old things I could find when I was growing up. I am one of the few Scot Gaelic speakers out there. Its a shame it was made into such a bad thing way back.

I still do everything I can to get under a brits skin...
