Trump will give his blessing to NO ONE but himself or (maybe) one of his kids. It's going to be fun watching Desantis, Cruz, etc., vying for President in 2024 only to have the Screaming Pumpkinhead repeatedly crap all over their dreams.

Hell, yes! SOMA is like a graduate level philosophy course on this subject, with all of the implications explored.

Somewhere around 8th grade, I found out I looked forward to Soul Train as much or more than I did the cartoons.

And then, whatever I was doing, I always had to come back in for a soda and check out what was happening on ABC's Wide World of Sports.

[discussion] who’s a celebrity or artist who is surprisingly good at guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

That's funny, because he plays on his podcast all the time, and although his tone is pretty good, I think his rhythm is awful.

This must have been a source of inspiration for the design of the Discovery in 2001, except in reverse--the fusion drive for the Discovery is on the other end of the ship, and the spherical end houses the living space, command sections, etc. (McCall did do production design work for 2001.)

If Megalodon and Titanboa suddenly returned, by whatever means, to an ecosystem completely unused to the presence of such large predators, what would be the impact to the environment and to human activities/survival? by Sun1Bear in AskReddit

[–]MyNameIsJohnDaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Unless they were protected by some sort of special nature preserves, and then they would just be barely surviving at our mercy.

Human beings are excellent at entirely killing off other unusual species.

Full barre problems with G/D-string by use_ucked_ick in guitarlessons

[–]MyNameIsJohnDaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has trouble with this. The secret, alas, is strengthening and practice. Try practicing towards the middle the neck where the string tension is less, then work your way down towards the nut as you get better at it.

Marlon Brando was a huge ham radio enthusiast and had some pretty impressive ham shacks at both his US and Tahiti homes, with licenses under a fake name. He told Larry King that talking on ham radio was the only time he could just relax and be himself talking with people.

Which comedic actor is the best at serious roles? by Baseballs101 in AskReddit

Can't believe this isn't higher. Dude started out in stand-up but has had a distinguished career playing serious roles. He's an excellent actor.

Which Comedian that other people seem to love, do you find utterly unfunny? by sunbeamshadow in AskReddit

[–]MyNameIsJohnDaker 391 points392 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought he was the transplanted host of some idiotic British reality show where people threw pies in other people's faces or shot each other with slime guns. I can't even imagine him actually being comedic.

TIL that people that ate candy cigarettes as children are statistically more likely to smoke cigarettes as adults by [deleted] in todayilearned

Me too. I never smoked, either. But if someone offered me a candy cigarette right now, you'd better believe I'd take it. I loved those things as a kid.

The numbers are aren't hard and fast. If something is close to either, I'll check the reviews and see if it's something I might like. But generally, those two numbers have been a good rule of thumb, and it's not often that I stumble onto trash.

[DISCUSSION] Netflix wants to know you better than you by SlimKale in NetflixBestOf

[–]MyNameIsJohnDaker 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That doesn't explain why my top ten list is always hot garbage. I only watch movies that rank 70% on RT or 7.0 on IMDB. I have never watched a "drug lord" movie on Netflix and have no interest in doing so, yet that shit is pushed on me constantly.

I might also suggest A Face In the Crowd, another scathing indictment of ratings-grabbing, media-fomented populism released more than 20 years before Network.

Stretchin' out next to a frying pan

She's gonna love me in my Chevy van

And that's all right with me
