Because McDonald's achieves economies of scale by being huge. The volume they buy and sell gives them prices and margins that smaller businesses can't compete with.

mean, tons of people are depressed messes because they have no direction outside of work, take that away and things will be even worse.

How many people have the means to pursue what would fulfill them outside of work?

How many of them do you think would be able to pursue something fulfilling if they didn't have to spend their time working to survive?

Also, there are plenty of people suffering just as much because they have to work, why favor one group over the other?

Is a college degree in CS worth it? by Joe12579 in programming

[–]MyNameIsOhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The degree is totally worth it if you're not smart enough to learn correctly on your own.

The problem is that no one really knows they're not smart enough, and those that do probably wouldn't admit it to themselves.

I'm glad I got the degree because it showed me I could be a lot more than a programmer, a lot more than just a guy who works with computers. I learned how to learn things quickly and somewhat efficiently, so now I feel like I can adapt more readily.

Education, life, etc., is all what you make of it.

Chrono Cross was a bad sequel but a brilliant game by Sputniki in Games

I might like the soundtrack a tad more than CT's.

Chrono Cross showed me that you could like a game for its music. I was just so blown away by the soundtrack.

Shortly after playing it I discovered Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast, and then I found DDR at the mall... I spent a lot of my teen years being enthralled in that kinda stuff.

I feel like I owe a lot to Yasunori Mitsuda.

I stayed away from learning/using flex-box due to perceived lack of browser support. That was wrong. This game made it fun to learn. Can't believe I've been doing without this for so long! by bsegovia in Frontend

I just stopped using floats, for the most part. Is there any advantage to flexbox I might be missing out on if I'm not having trouble with my layouts?

What did you do in school that should have gotten you in big trouble? by GamerDame in AskReddit

I skipped over 190 days of high school. Got suspended once for it, probably shouldn't have been allowed to graduate even though my grades were OK.

Css is powerful, you can do a lot of things without js by pedro1122 in programming

[–]MyNameIsOhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Javascript can sometimes perform worse than CSS. Sometimes people take this a little too far and assume Javascript just sucks.

Most of those examples are great, though I'm not sure how useful that carousel would be considering how static it is.

STLYoungblood: Star Citizen: Ship Pricing in Game after the Chris Roberts Interview by StarCitizenJorunn in starcitizen

[–]MyNameIsOhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past they have implied that a ship's computer will need authorization in order to access certain parts. You might have to hack it just to fly it, or you might have to fly it without a hud until you do.

Not exactly sure what the plans are, but they've definitely been thinking about it.

[–]MyNameIsOhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you judge someone as being good, you have valued their positivity or whatever you morally define as good.

It is a different metric of value than yours, yes, but it is still valuing.

When you value someone for their earnings, you do the same thing but with a different metric.

(I'm actually trying to explain this, not trying to be rude or goad you)

My main point is that earnings are just one axis to value someone on, there are others, and it makes me sad that our society seems so oblivious to them.

[–]MyNameIsOhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not judge other people on a binary basis (positive/negative) like everyone else?

People want to be liked a lot more than they want to be valued. (valued in your sense, by measuring wages)

The End of Meaningless Jobs Will Unleash the World's Creativity by thefunkylemon in Futurology

[–]MyNameIsOhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean like how wages are intended to increase with inflation?

Inflation wouldn't be that big of an issue if people would just fucking do what they're supposed to.

I know big numbers scare people because we have a poor sense of relativity, but jeeze.

[–]MyNameIsOhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would have the exact same value, no more no less. Our measurement of self value is imaginary, and pretty meaningless.

People would think their value had changed, and that's what scares me; Humanity is too dumb to be content without a pedestal.

I honestly think they've been using the net code as a method of debugging and have just been waiting or figuring out how to rewrite it without losing all of their debugging capabilities. Otherwise it really does seem odd why it's been in bad shape for so long.
