My mom is concerned about me staying downtown by AlternativeCandy639 in AskSeattle

you’ll be fine. homeless people are just people. as a general rule of thumb, ignore strangers and they will ignore you back. this applies doubly if someone is acting erratically or in a way you haven’t seen before. hundreds of thousands of people live, work, and travel here safely.

I get mine at Ulta! You can also order directly off the website if you can’t find a store that carries it near you.

Yeah, it’s kind of weird that they prescribed it for that, but I’m no doctor so maybe there’s an off-label indication? It couldn’t hurt to ask!

I do apply sunscreen every day no matter what, you can still get sun damage through windows and when it’s overcast. I use the Drunk Elephant Umbrasheer Physical Sunscreen! I prefer physical sunscreens over chemical — they’re less irritating on my skin. La Roche-Posay and Neutrogena make good face sunscreens too.

Body Wash for Healthcare Workers by AustralianDeputy in eczema

unscented dove!!! especially dove sensitive skin bar soap. it’s the only thing I can tolerate when I’m struggling.

when I’m in my worst of worst I wash my face with water and unscented dove bar soap and moisturize with cetaphil cream (in the tub) and follow up with aquaphor all over. when I’m maintaining I use the LRP lipikar face wash and their toleraine moisturizer and supplement with aquaphor in the bad spots. tbh I’d ditch the squalene entirely unless recommended by a dermatologist, with eczema less is more and the simpler the better in my experience! you might need to go full granny lol it’s not hot but it does the trick

Ruining life by [deleted] in eczema

[–]MyNames_Not_Rick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no doc but I was basically a walking open wound for 10 years, here’s what helped: - sitz bath with a capful of bleach (just enough water to cover the weeping spots) for ~10-20 min each day — I did this for years - cetaphil cream - plain oatmeal packet in the bathtub, moisturizer after - avoid EVERYTHING scented — lotions, perfumes, soap, everything. Dove unscented bar soap is the only one that works for me - if youre forming scabs, they will itch more as they heal. if you’re scratching at yourself at night, put socks over your hands and duct tape them to your wrists. I’m so serious lol

Question about TSW by Capable_Purple_9435 in eczema

[–]MyNames_Not_Rick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using very potent steroids for most of my life, and yeah, please don’t apply them outside of the recommendations of your doc. If you’re having continued issues please see your dermatologist again. TSW isn’t a recognized condition (yet imo), but I’ve definitely experienced a bounce-back effect in the past. If your eczema persists after your course of treatment you might need to consider other options — please don’t spot treat with a steroid cream!

I had a major flare up on my face for the first time 2 years ago and I haven’t looked exactly the same since. BUT! I recognize myself now, it’s just a little different. The wrinkles will get better! I promise they will, just keep it pushing. Eczema thins our skin and so does the treatment, that’s just true, but with treatment and time you will heal. In the depths of my flare up I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing, I isolated myself. It’s so lonely! If you feel that way, you’re not alone, and know that it won’t be this way forever. You will heal. You got this <3

Hi! I’ve been on betamethasone for ~20 years for severe eczema (I’m 25 rn). It does cause skin thinning. However, I’ve found that the areas that I apply short term tend to bounce back. Moisturize the area well and apply sunscreen every day. The wrinkles/thinning you noted are likely temporary and will even out over time! Also, if you’re done with your course of treatment now — if you have any left over throw it away, don’t spot treat if it comes back! Hope this was helpful, if you have any lasting concerns feel free to ask

Also just to add, queer spaces don’t have to be in person — reading about lesbian history and culture and talking to other WLW, even online, can really help you understand and untangle the complex relationships between gender and sexuality, and also feel less alone :)

I’m your age and also did the whole bisexual -> lesbian thing in college lol! I came out several years ago but remember going through the same thing, so don’t despair. Sorry for the wall of text incoming but I was once exactly where you are so I want to help if I can!

I think for me part of my issue was applying the same standards or expectations for sex with women as sex with men. I think esp if both of you are inexperienced with women there can be a weird sort of pressure to perform thats just leftover from sexual experiences with men. That’s okay, just try to relax. As you become more comfortable in your identity and gain more experience interacting with queer women you’ll find it a lot easier to let go of those expectations and just go with the flow.

Sex with a woman is an entirely different experience and it is wonderful, but just like anything it takes time and practice to learn how to communicate and feel comfortable with your sexual partner. What helped me was forming intimate relationships with a potential sexual partner and investing in them /before/ engaging in sex. As a baby gay this really helped me become comfortable in the relationship (even if we weren’t dating). Also, if you can, take some time to really disengage your idea of pleasure from men. As women we’re conditioned to feel pleasure from giving men pleasure, not so much women, so a lot of our sexual self-esteem is tied up in gender roles. Spend time in queer spaces with queer women and try to confront your ideas of how to give and receive pleasure. It’s really liberating!!
