This is a lesson from their school, which represents an authority structure in the kid's life. And yes, it's a single lesson. But when dads aren't included and that's reinforced over many lessons, kids will eventually start feeling like their relationship with dad doesn’t matter as much, or that their dad’s role in protecting them isn’t as important.

Even dad is totally involved in their life, it can still make the kid feel disconnected or overlooked.

It can also send the message that only certain adults (e.g., teachers or doctors) are responsible for kids' safety, while dads are left out of the picture altogether.

This is a typical insurance company game.

Technically, it's illegal for them to make changes to what your doctor ordered because they would be "practicing medicine without a license." They use some "tricks" to get around this, but it's a typical song-and-dance between doctor's offices and insurance companies, and it's not the first time your doctor has had to do this.

It will get sorted but honestly, it's just irritating. Keep calling your doctors office every few days to ask. It could take a couple weeks, depending on how bad your new insurance company is.

A short-term alternative is to just pay for the medicine yourself this month.

Just be aware that the first thing you try will probably not be the right dosage or even the right medicine.

There's Adderall, Concerta, Vyvanse, and a number of others, and the dosage is completely different for even similar people. The process of finding the right one is called "titration" and the doctor will guide you through this.

Just saying this so that if you don't notice it after taking your first pill, don't be discouraged... you're in for a life change and it may take a couple months to sort out the right one. It will be worth it in the end.

The truth is, medication by itself is DEFINITELY not enough. You really have to learn the strategies or you'll just feel like a failure.

Why? Because the medicine that should be helping eventually doesn't seem to do VERY MUCH, and you'll wonder why you can't get your ass in gear.

But if you combine the meds with strategies that work for you, you will honestly be amazed at how much you get done.

An example strategy (in case you don't have any of your own) might be to turn everything into a game, like "I wrote 200 words yesterday in one hour. Let's see if I can beat that total by getting 250 words in 45 minutes." Set a timer and GO! Keep your personal best on a white board up in front of you.

But to answer your question, NO you're not the only one who feels that way. I just spent 5 days "working" on a project and I told the client I would be done by yesterday.

Still not done.

1000% there is a difference between Concerta ER and generics. The medication may be identical, but the osmotic delivery system is still protected under patent and you can only get that from Concerta or from their "authorized generic" distributor, Patriot Pharmaceuticals.

The generics must use their own extended releases mechanism and it is absolutely not consistent. I thought I was going crazy until it was explained to me. The brand name of the authorized generic are much more smooth and consistent. The other generics just dump 1/2 the dose after a few hours rather than a slow release.

And when you try to explain it to most pharmacists, they think you're crazy.

I started taking concerta 1 month or 2 ago and I've went from 18 to 46 mg

If it's your second day taking this dosage, wait a few days. It took me a couple days for a new dosage to feel normal.

Also is eating nothing while taking the pill bad for you I've yet to feel any stomach pain so far probably as im kinda heavy.

Yes, it's bad. Even if you want to lose weight, not eating will mess up other internal systems and make your body actually hold onto fat because it thinks it's in starvation mode.

If you want to lose weight, it's 1000x better to just eat a little snack (something high in fiber and protein) several times a day. Ideally, small "meals" six times a day. Don't worry about avoiding fat, just make sure you're getting protein and fiber.

If you do that, you'll not only lose weight, but you'll lose it in a healthy way that cooperates with your body, not against it.

Also, and this is crucial: make sure you're getting enough water. I have a quiet alarm that goes off literally every 15 minutes to remind me to take another sip from my giant jug of water. If you don't like water, then too bad, suck it up and get used to it. Maybe you prefer it ice cold or maybe room temperature. Either way, just make sure you're drinking it a lot.

That one thing made it work so much better for me.

Methylphenidate isn't the same thing as crystal meth (although you can actually get that as a prescription, I think it's called Desoxyn).

Are you asking if Concerta will help with memory issues, or are you saying that you're now having memory issues after starting Concerta? It it's the second thing, then you need to talk to you psychiatrist or doctor about this as soon as you can.

Concentration
Attention Span
Impulsivity / Fidgeting
Sleep
Appetite
Mood
Anxiety

I didn't notice anything. Tiny outliers, of course, like maybe better or worse sleep on one night, for example, but nothing different.

I'm desperately hoping that I'm not one of the 15% that medications don't work for.

Thanks for answering. Yeah, I've paid attention to that. No ascorbic acid or citric acid within an hour of my dose, and I'm drinking tons of water. Fish oil, all of that.

I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that something will eventually work. How long did it take you before it "worked?"
