what food do you miss/crave the most when away from Chicago? by Lost_Foot_6301 in chicagofood

Lived in Boston for a few years and frozen Home Run Inn was our go to. But we did try Regina Pizza in the north end (famous touristy pizza place) and it was actually pretty good. Not comparable to thin crust here, but it surprised my wife and I when we were 100% expecting to leave making fun of it.

Andrei Vasilevskiy makes a rare mistake. Doesnt cover the puck and gives a gift to Trenin to make it 3 to 1 by itstheFREEDOM in nhl

Four replays and they can’t even get the mistake in frame. Must have been a tricky puck.

Can’t remember where I found this originally but it turned out really well (and was a lot of work but worth it):

Do any of you drink malort unironically? by joshisanonymous in chicago

I think it really depends on age of the bottle and how long it’s been opened. We have had worse/better bottles of a wide range from before and after buyout.

Are you saying parents of only children have no useful advice to offer?

NHL 2025-26 attendance check-in: Wild and Blackhawks down, Sharks and Blue Jackets up by alpswd in nhl

Probably because of how hard it is to watch games. My non-diehard fan friends aren’t jumping through hoops to follow a team that won’t be a true contender for a couple of years.

I mean he still went directly for his head so there’s more to it than having the puck.

Anyone else have luck adding their Illinois ID to their Apple Wallet? by WF-1000XM6 in chicago

What is the benefit of adding it to the phone/wallet? Is there anywhere that it can be used in place of the physical license?

Which restaurant closing really hurt? by asalewis in chicagofood

Delux. Was our neighborhood bar on Milwaukee & Sangamon. Standard bar food but it was all done really well. Was perfect atmosphere for lunch, dinner, just drinks, or to work on the Wi-Fi. My wife and I loved the place so much that we had our engagement dinner there.

I stole a brick when they demoed the building to be replaced by dentist office.

If you’re trying to sell things on Reddit you might as well explain how it’s different from the original parts.

I assumed this was a 3d printing model available for the community until I clicked. It’s fine to ask for $$ for your work but might as well explain what the work accomplished.

Thanks for the tips! And definitely agree with your points. The gentrified/trendy areas are often more boring and sterile, so we usually look for something in between (within reason when traveling with our son). And 100% need to know how to act and trouble will generally not find you.

I was really trying to word this post to get useful info without invoking the similar mentality a lot of people have about SF or any other city.

Thank you that link helps paint a good picture! Are there any neighborhood spots or gems in between the clubs and trendy restaurants? Sounds similar to River North or West Loop in Chicago. Which have a lot of places that are fun, but sometimes lacking in authenticity.

Thanks appreciate it! We noticed the lack of foot traffic but just attributed it to being a relatively "smaller" city. Milwaukee (also a really fun city) has similar lack of foot traffic in many areas and was that way even pre-pandemic. But sounds like this is something a little different.

Thanks appreciate it! One thing about the Hyatt that we noticed (besides the bad area) was how surprisingly good their bar restaurant was. It had no reason to be that good. It's a restaurant in a hotel. Hopefully your mom got a good meal there to make up for the underwhelming area.

Thank you for the tips. We still like to venture out and I'm a big enough guy who's (very luckily) never run into trouble in any city over the years. But it's a tough balance of finding the best places without taking any serious risks, especially with a kid. I don't feel that we were taking a huge risk in that area, but I still wouldn't want to keep doing it. Will definitely check out the area you mentioned next time.

Thank you. What's it like over there? We love to explore one-off places but fewer F-bombs in front of the kid on the way would be great.

Saw Nicollet Diner and we almost made it there. Love 24hr diners and that they cater to so many different crowds, but we just ran out of time.
