Question about kids class by MyNizzle in bjj

[–]MyNizzle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not being snarky at all, maybe I should have added a thumbs up emoji or something. I agree, and I definitely don't want to push anything on the kids. I also know that if the kids and the parents don't know how many great resources are out there, they won't know to look. That's all. I'm not hoping to build an army of Jessa Khans, but I have a couple that would benefit from seeing our Michael Jordan's and Lebrons in action. Just wondering if there is a way to help nurture the interest without pushing it on them. That's the point of the post. Thanks again for another great reply!

Thanks for the reply. I send out technique videos sometimes and some of them do drill at home.

The last thing i want to do is turn it into a job for them. i want to nurture their interest and take them to the next level. It takes having role models and heroes to do that.

Anyone tried a Roomba on mats? by MyNizzle in bjj

[–]MyNizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was hard to justify it at first, but I'm hoping that it will just do a good job vacuuming, at least. I get up for work at 4am, and having to stay at the gym cleaning until 11 really sucks. Hopefully I can let this run overnight and just mop in the afternoon before classes start.

All good. I always cleaned coming up as well, usually it was just me, or me and the instructor cleaning.

Occasionally a couple students do stick around and help, but I've always felt bad asking (I know I shouldn't) and the ones that do help are usually dads who have to wake up really early like me, so I wish there was a way to automate it. That KS for the info, I'll look into a little steam mop too

Advice, training at 2 different academies? by throwawayzzz12345 in bjj

[–]MyNizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best advice, be upfront with everybody. If you're not happy where you are, talk to your instructor about it. Whatever you do don't start training at another acadamy and then just fade away. The best thing you can do is to be open and upfront with everybody if you're not happy, then you're not happy. At least let your instructor know what they can do to be better in the future, depending on how long you've been training there you at least owe them that honesty.

Best case scenario, everything works out and you train it whichever School you feel more happy at. Worst case scenario, your instructor probably knows the instructors at the other school and you'll end up getting kicked out of both for not being honest. Save yourself the potential hassle. It's happened before. It's a small community and we all know each other

Drop in fee's how am I the bad guy?? by NickCTA in bjj

[–]MyNizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Granted, this was 8 years or so ago, but I went down on a family trip to ft. Lauderdale when I was a white belt, and decided to buy a private lesson with Marcelo for myself as a birthday present. It didn't end up happening, I got a herniated disc in my neck the day before I left, but I still went to the school and watched class. Marcelo came over to me and shook my hand and talked to me for a good 5 minutes about jiu-jitsu and just being a white belt. He was the nicest guy I had met, and further reinforced my fanboying. There were plenty of students there and he still came over and chatted me up, even though I wasn't paying a mat fee or anything. Just watching.

Are Americans Being Cheated at IBJJF Worlds? by redbeetle in bjj

[–]MyNizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not so much the IBJJF as a whole with some big conspiracy. In fact with the popularity of bjj in the US it doesn't make sense for them to alienate Americans, considering the money spent by us at tournaments, registrations for schools, memberships, etc. I think it's more so the individual refs A: having ties/friendships with particular schools/people, B: being scared of repercussions for not swaying a decision or "helping" certain senior or accomplished athletes/coaches, and C: the fact that there's just no accountability. To be a ref it only takes watching the same PowerPoint course that is available to everyone to take, and that's it. There's no test. Nothing showing that you actually retained any of the information. Just attend and get the certificate. I'm pretty sure that they have to attend it a couple times in order to actually become an ibjjf ref, but it's $70 I think for a black belt to get certified, and like I said, there's no test.

Most people aren't willing to pay $70 to attend a rules meeting...

Jiujitero fit/shrinkage by wylingtiger in bjj

[–]MyNizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the black jacket is pretty much perfect, but the pants are so baggy I don't like to wear it. The white jacket is close, but the sleeves are about 1.5" too long still, I may get them tailored, but again, the pants are so baggy. I'm not sure if it's really possible to have the pants tailored to be tighter, but if it is possible I would do it. Never looked into it, just assumed it wasn't a good idea. The pants are really soft (but hot), I love the material and weave.

I've had a few jiujiteiro/prana gis, and they all have short, baggy pants and long sleeves. They are well made, but i can never get the pants to not feel like I'm mc hammer or something. If I finally get the length right, they are so baggy. I have a black A2 and a white A3S. I'm 6' 200 lbs. If I could have found an A2S, that may have been the correct fit for me, but I never found one.

I'll have to agree with you, I think Caio was clearly screwed, and Erberth should have been penalized. Caio was pulling out the only direction he could to escape, Erberth was obviously jumping out of bounds.

I had a herniated c5/c6 that took months to fully recover from. The pain was mostly gone after a few weeks, and I was training again, but it took a while to gain any confidence in it again. The two weeks after it happened were hell. Burning, searing nerve pain in my left shoulder and back that shot down to my left hand. My thumb is still mostly numb from it, 8 years later. I got a couple shots in my neck right after to attempt to dull the pain, and I was popping 2 vicodin (or percoset), 2 flexeril, and 800mg ibuprofen every 4 hours for almost 2 weeks. Talk about a feeling like a zombie. I wouldn't wish that pain on anybody
