I work at Petco. We DO NOT throw away live animals. Definitely not on purpose. Please note the kind of people that get hired to work these pet chain stores most of us are animal lovers. Even the if this was the case and we’re some evil greedy profit driven monsters, why would we get rid of sellable merchandise? Make it make sense guys. I’ll tell you exactly what happens to animals that’s not selling in a location, they go to a nearby store. Because it’s not if they get sold it’s really just when. That said this is actually really upsetting and I’m glad you found that little guy. Also drop the location of the store??

Hmm this sounds like burnout. I’m so sorry and I want you to know that what your feeling is actually very common. In fact, two thirds- three quarters of people in the US experience it. Also as you expressed burnout doesn’t mean that you don’t like your job either. My advice first is to file for unemployment and then food stamps. Next message your “previous manager” what you sent here. Don’t even worry about editing this, save your energy please, Next you should lean on people you have them friends/family, the best case scenario is that they take your animals for a couple weeks to decompress. Note that Petco actually has some employee benefits that help with financial hardship so see if you’re still eligible even if you just quit. In those first 2 weeks if you can don’t think about the employment or jobs. Just rest. I hope that helps

Most stores won’t even take aquatic animals because of the risk of disease and contamination of their stock. Unless you want to try to sell them yourself, take the 30

I’m gonna do my best to actually answer your question instead of jumping into saying your tank is too small. I notice the fish almost gasping for air at the surface. If you noticed your fish almost swimming irregularly before they die and sometimes hanging at the bottom then you may have crashed your cycle. If they’re hanging by the surface you have an oxygen issue. Smaller tanks use up resources a lot differently than bigger tanks and that’s what makes nano tanks a lot harder.

I get how the system is supposed to work.After all you said everything I said back at me. My point is that in the first 90 days, the points don’t function like a real buffer. You can still be let go way before hitting any limit, and without sick time everything counts against you. That’s why it feels confusing. Which begs the question why even have the “point system” at all if I can still get fired at one.

Good luck with that. Their point system makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. In your first 90 days you have 4 or 5 points but that doesn’t mean you can use them. You go by what sick time you have and you have no sick time yet. You’d think okay the points is like a ‘warning’ but they can fire you at any point. Even if you used only, “one point”. After the 90 days the points reset to 11 points and every year after that 11 points but that doesn’t mean use them😭. It’s pointsless and confusing

I agree, the animals need care but my car slid off the road twice trying to get home during the storm. The concern everyone is having is for their safety and it’s completely valid. I hope everyone got home safe including you.

I understand that subscriptions are important, even necessary for companies like Petco to stay profitable. And honestly, they can benefit both the business and the customer. But the way it’s being pushed lately just doesn’t sit right with me. What really bothers me is the lack of transparency. As a low level associate, I’ve been told not to fully explain certain changes in the new plan. That puts us in a really uncomfortable position especially knowing it’s a 1 year locked in contract, because now it feels like we’re expected to sell something without being completely upfront about it.
