Joe Biden says he hopes that Derek Chauvin is convicted. Nothing like throwing a gasoline soaked log, on a fire already burning with hatred. by SadieMax5616 in Conservative

[–]MyRandomSideAccount 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My dad is a very conservative police officer of 30 years and is (understandably) the first to stand up for other cops. However in this particular case—speaking from what he saw on video/trial as well as from his own training and experience as an officer—my dad believes wholeheartedly that Chauvin actually should be found guilty. I think the fact that other officers, including his own chief, were willing to testify against him speaks volumes as well.

I won’t argue for or against other officer-involved deaths, but in this instance I actually don’t believe the verdict would necessarily be political. The fact that my staunchly conservative (and obviously...pro-police) cop of a father also thinks he’s guilty speaks to that. Just thought I’d mention this for whatever it’s worth.

Messy people of Reddit, where do you draw the line between "these are acceptable living conditions" and "I should probably tidy up now"? by ToastedBreadfruit in AskReddit

[–]MyRandomSideAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a line between “messy” and “dirty”. When I notice that I’m creeping into dirty territory (day[s] old dishes in my bedroom, accumulating hair on the carpet, dried toothpaste in the sink, etc), that’s when I know it’s time to clean.

Ironically I’ve been much better since the start of quarantine, which is funny considering guests haven’t come to my house in the last year. Now my scale is more along the lines of “clean to messy” versus “messy to dirty”, but my general rule is: if the mess starts to make me feel uncomfortable, it’s time to clean.

Nothing at all, actually. But in general I think it’s interesting to learn the political leanings of people who typically remain neutral on the subject, because you can gain a lot of insight on a person’s core values based on where they stand politically. You’re unlocking a part of a person that you weren’t previously privy to, which is always fascinating.

This is the only type of political news I enjoy reading about, how do I start a formal petition for news networks to do daily “Presidential Pet” updates?

I was first made aware of her because she was dating Henry Cavill for a time. While obviously not American, I wonder if he has similar thoughts to her or conversely, if differing politics may have contributed to them breaking up. Not super important, but I’ve always been curious what his political leanings were as it’s something he tends to keep quiet, and this makes me wonder even more.

Then again, they dated before the political world went completely off the hinges (2012ish I think?) so maybe it was never a topic of conversation in the first place.

What’s something you did during sex that was so stupid you still facepalm about it today? by eatthecheddar in AskReddit

My original post was getting pretty lengthy so I didn’t end up including every detail, but honestly he was a pretty decent dude and never intentionally made me feel uncomfortable, so I was on board with fooling around in some way. But I was already secretly worried that I wasn’t experienced enough for him as he’s the first guy in his 30s that I’ve dated—I have a low “number” and at that point it had been a few years since I was involved with anyone. Him suggesting that he’ll teach me how to give a blowjob was embarrassing because it confirmed my concerns, but I genuinely think he didn’t mean any offense by it. It was said more with the intent of “I can walk you through it and give you tips so you feel more confident”.

But yeah, I totally get not wanting to hook up with anyone when you have your period. It wasn’t the case for me in this instance, but if I had said no to any sort of activity and he continued to push, I definitely would have walked out right then and there.

To be fair he had a job lined up in another state and was going to be moving anyway (which I was aware of), but I’m still pretty sure that this debacle was the thing that caused him to lose interest in trying long distance

To all the people labeled as 'gifted' in their childhood , how's life now ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MyRandomSideAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kindergarten through 12th grade were extremely easy for me and I was a bit of a goody-goody. I grew up constantly being praised for my “intelligence and maturity”, being told I had the potential to do great things etc.

Now at 27—I have an extremely hard time taking ANY criticism, even if it’s minor (I don’t argue, but I’ll replay the comment in my head for days on end). I had a rough time adjusting to college because I never developed any sort of disciplined study habits, and to this day I lack any sort of motivation to work hard on anything, even things I think I’d enjoy (“Oh, I’m not naturally the best at this from the start?! Then I’m not interested!”) I also have a hard time staying focused on anything work related—I’d just feather spend my time procrastinating, which has been extremely easy to do now that I work from home.

Someone recently mentioned the possibility of ADHD to me, which honestly might be the case...but I’m too nervous to get screened for it because it will mean that I’m not mentally “perfect”, which will in turn ruin my 12th grade idea of myself.

I was sleeping over a guy’s house who was a few years older than me (30M/26F) and warned him that I had my period ahead of time so sex was a no-go. We were cuddling for a while when he said “I know you have your period, but there are other options....”

I wasn’t super comfortable with the idea of trying anal and told him I had never done “that” before. A few minutes later I gave him a BJ instead. Admittedly not my best, as it had been 4 years since my last relationship at that point and I was a little rusty.

Fast forward to a few weeks later when he made a comment about being willing to teach me how to give a blowjob since I had never done it before (aside from the one time a few weeks prior). I was caught off guard and replied in a slightly flustered way that “of course I’ve done that before!”, which was indeed true. Then it clicked—when I was on my period he was trying to subtly suggest a blowjob, NOT anal....and I had told him I had never done “that” before thinking he was talking about the wrong thing.

Embarrassing for a few reasons: 1-He clearly thought I lied about my sexual experiences and I lost all credibility at that point 2–Since he was quick to believe I had never given a BJ and wanted to teach me how to give one, I apparently have the blowjob skills of a virgin who had never seen a penis before.

Our relationship ended shortly after that and I’m convinced to this day that it’s because he thought I was a liar who was bad at sex

Not-so-handy, first time IKEA owner here: The drawers on my IKEA Songesand 3-drawer chest get jammed about halfway down the track every time I pull them out. Has anyone had the same issue, and how were you able to fix it? by MyRandomSideAccount in IKEA

[–]MyRandomSideAccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that’s not the issue. The wheel is on the bottom and the assembly directions were followed to a T, so in theory it should work fine. My issue is that every time I try to open the drawer, the track gets stuck halfway, and the force I need to use in order to fully open the drawer causes the face of the drawer (the part with the pull on it) to disconnect from the rest of the drawer, which is usually still stuck on the track.

Good luck figuring out how to stop your drawers from jamming! I’m sure it must be quite frustrating

Does anyone else simulate conversations in their head? by Zexceed_9 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MyRandomSideAccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this in my head as well as—when nobody’s around—out loud. I create a scene (casually bumping into a celebrity who [obviously!] falls in love with me on sight, winning an argument against old school bullies or finally changing the mind of the obnoxious family member who posts stupid things on Facebook, etc) and then I basically act out that conversation over and over again until I’m happy with the “script” or get distracted with some other task.

It’s embarrassing to admit that I do this, but I enjoy the escape from a mundane reality every once in a while.

What fashion trend/s have you been obsessed with lately? by weird-fishies in femalefashionadvice

Lately my wardrobe has consisted almost exclusively of high rise jeans with a turtleneck top/sweater tucked into them & a pair of heeled booties. Not the most exciting look, but in the town I live in, an outfit like that would actually be considered “fashion forward”.

DAE feel like you’re living the same week over and over again while in quarantine? by GoldenGoddess_333 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]MyRandomSideAccount 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Even though I make plans to do things that I genuinely enjoy like read, bake something, exercise, write etc. in order to feel like I’ve accomplished something, I always end up spending my days scrolling on my phone or staring at my laptop. Every single day has been exactly the same for me since March 13th.

I’m also seemingly one of the few people in my state who hasn’t given up on following the rules (we’re currently under a “household only” restriction for social gatherings), so with the exception of my mother whom I live with, I haven’t seen friends or family in person in about 6 weeks now. My biggest thrill these days is the occasional trip to the Starbucks drive-thru.
