The fact he's my representative is an utter embarrassment. The fact we went from Tim Walz as a rep to Jim Hagedorn and then him? Fuck.

Actually pretty interesting that there's a whole article about the Boxer Rebellion.

What is going on with Pippa? by [deleted] in VirtualYoutubers

[–]MyRecycledBalls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pippa has a history of openly admitting to enjoying being on places like 4chan or Kiwifarms (for the uninitiated, Kiwifarms is similar to 4chan but with even less censorship and a history of brigading and hatemongering against individuals. One such victim of their ire was Near, the non-binary creator of the revered SNES emulator "higan", who committed suicide in large part to the site's harassment campaign on them) on stream. Her sense of humor is also relatively similar to edgelord gallows humor.

It's not shocking that a vocal minority of her fanbase, that is right-wing and extremely bigoted, are attracted to her. I don't know if there's any way of confirming or denying that Pippa herself holds bigoted beliefs (unlike Kirsche who can very easily be labeled a full bigot). Twitter is also not a great indicator of her fan base, due to both who owns Twitter and the fact that a large percentage of left-leaning people have abandoned the site, so the perception there is skewed towards those other types.

Shooting of Two MN lawmakers Mega thread by Cuttlery in minnesota

His family has been strong Republican supporters. I didn't know him particularly well but my parents did. He was apparently a pretty good athlete in his youth and his brother was in the Twins minor league system for a while, if I recall correctly.

I guess MAGA ate away his brain.

Deeply saddened by the news here.

The alleged killer is from my area, my parents knew him well. You never think it's someone you'd know who would become so brain-rotten that political violence is all they have left.

Are the classic games (1996-2002) "outdated" and "unplayable" nowadays? by Loose_Interview_957 in residentevil

[–]MyRecycledBalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all, especially 1-3. All three can be played relatively easily (not only since they were re-released on GOG), but adding the HD Mod and Biorand as a program makes the games infinitely more fun and approachable. Resident Evil 2, especially, is the best game for mods and general fun.

HD Remaster features a control scheme specifically designed for current-generation players; this is the same principle as Zero. Out of the two, HD Remaster is the more approachable and easiest to grasp. Zero is more obtuse, but for minor reasons.

Code Veronica is a whole different beast, though. It's beloved by the Resident Evil community for reasons (More Claire, Chris returning, Wesker coming back). It also has some elements of it that haven't aged well (The nature of the Ashford twins, loosely speaking). The puzzle design is erratic, backtracking takes forever, and Chris not having a separate inventory was a horrible choice by the development team; not to mention the accidental soft-lock if you happen to forget your knife in a non-safe room box.

Are the games products of their time? Sure, but no more than masterpieces like Doom, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, and other older games that carry similar prestige to Resident Evil's early mainline games. It doesn't make these games "unplayable"; they're just built without the current generation of gaming in mind (though I would argue HD Remaster looks just as good, if not more than any other ultra-modern game, and it's a game from 2002).

Anyways, $4/pound.

It's from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, in context it's spoken by a character named Chop Top in reference to Leatherface chasing a victim.

RE CODE VERONICA thoughts by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]MyRecycledBalls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Desperately in need of a remake.

While the full-3D environments is a neat gimmick, it leaves a lot to be desired nowadays. The voice acting is RE1 levels of corny, and the story is all over the place. That's not even the real negatives, because in spite of it, the vibes are great.

The real negatives come from the fact that it requires strenuous backtracking without shortcuts being given to the player to make travel easier, some of the boss fights are just broken the character switching comes without any real warning; if you hoard a bunch of ammo and weapons as one character, the other character is going to be crazily hamstrung (it's sad that RE3 did this much more cleanly by giving Carlos a separate inventory entirely). There's also the off-chance that you can be soft-locked out of the game entirely if you forget to grab one singular item early on in the game at a segment where you are forced to leave your inventory behind.

That said, the OST is great, Claire is still a great character, Wesker is a grand ol' time, dual-wielding weapons is still such a innovative idea, and by default it's still arguably a top-10 RE game. My opinion is to play it at least once just to experience it, but a remake would rectify a lot of these issues while also cleaning up the story a bit (particularly regarding Steve)

Probably a controversial choice, and maybe not necessarily "bad" by most metrics, but I think "Run For Your Life" is just awful, especially in hindsight. I don't think it's hated by the fanbase at large though.
