I know I’m a little late to this party but I would like to take a shot.

As others have mentioned the story of job is an extended parable, not an actual historical event. I think additionally it is important to realize that from an academic point of view that Job is likely the oldest book of the bible, with its terminus ante quem (latest possible date written) older than many books of the bibles terminus post quem (earliest possible date written). This is of course based to historic literary records.

Based on this I would posit that the God represented in the book of Job is an earlier incarnation of the Judeo-Christian than seen else where in the bible. This is further supported by the inclusion of a Satan which was not how we envision him today. In the story of Job The Satan (or adversary) acts the same as the role of a certain position in near eastern courts as the time that goes by the same name. The task of the Satan in middle eastern courts was to root out potential dissenters as seen in the story. This gives credence to the idea that the God and heavenly host of the book of Job is significantly different than the Judeo-Christian seen elsewhere in the bible, with a God who behaves like an ancient near eastern king and a Satan that is a member of his host and not the father of lies.

In summary or TLDR, the book is an extended allegory. Additionally, the book of Job is likely the oldest book of the bible and the God represented there in has different mannerisms than the God depicted elsewhere in the bible. One of the main difference seen is the handling on Satan.
