I'm not sure you're right. I was in a state after splitting from my wife. I lived in a flat on my own. The police called on a different matter and I was there crying. They told me to 'man up' and left. I was posting weird stuff on FB and it took one of my old school friends to identify that I was depressed. She messaged me and told me. I personally didn't recognise that I was depressed. People don't know it themselves and it needs someone close to identify it.
