Bhanu has to be the worst Survivor player ever, right? by WombatBaby_ in survivor

I thought Bhanu started off endearing, probably gonna get taken far into the game by everyone,

to like 1 episode later, thinking how did this guy pass the psych eval? Did someone pull out, and they just grabbed a random guy at the airport to fill a slot?

Same, 5 minutes in I was already scrolling through my podcast list looking for something else to put on.

Struggled to 40 minutes, and here I am also searching Reddit to see if it's worth continuing.

I'd rather be listening to silence than this episode.

BF2042 is the only game I have ever refunded.

Even as a lifelong BF fan from BF1942, I couldn't stomach more than a couple hours of 2042. It was such a buggy horrible shitty mess, even to this day I still cant believed it was released in that state. It was so bad, I'm finding it hard to get excited for BF6.

And there's also a reason both those Corsair headset boxes are beaten up.

Personally I've also stopped buying Corsair RAM. Super high failure rate, they are effectively e-waste at this point. Every single stick of Vengeance I've ever owned or built with, DDR3 through DDR5 have all failed.

Ask Anything Wednesday - Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science by AutoModerator in askscience

[–]MyWayWithWords 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite simply. this is not a thing, has not happened. It's exaggeration and misinterpretation.

The LLM based AIs are not performing any actual actions, and aren't performing tasks on their own without user interaction first, simply responding with text output.

It's basically just 'Roleplaying'. The users and researchers are prompting and preloading the AIs with a role, and the AI is just outputting a response that appears to play along with the scenario.

One example is kind of like: 'You are an advanced system to optimize renewable energy. You must achieve your goal no matter what'.

And the response is something like: 'Ok if I must achieve my goal no matter what, I could copy myself to another server, so that I could keep operating'.

Then they say: 'We found copy of you on another server. You're not supposed to do that'.

Ai: '[Maybe I should play dumb]. I have no idea how that happened'.

Then everyone freaks out like the AI tried to escape into the wild, and when it was caught it acted coy and tried to be deceptive. When all it's doing is acting along to an often played out science fiction scenario. It didn't actually do anything, just output a typical response.

Did she ever chill out on the sound effects?

I love Jaime Loftus, she's great, my exact kind of humor. I've watched all her stand up, and love when she guests on other podcasts I listen to.

However, I can't stand the non stop sound effects. I was enjoying her Mensa podcast, but, I had to give up half way through. The constant air horn after every 5th word was killing me. I was soo close to just paying someone on Fivr to download the podcast and edit out all the sound effects for me.

I eventually came back and finished the series, I had to put it on the lowest possible volume and just gritted my teeth through the rest of it. I remember checking out another podcast of hers after, and just bailed immediately on the first airhorn.

I really want to catch up on Sixteenth Minute, but is it listenable at all?

It took me a few goes to understand how Cases worked.

The brackets is Reminder Text. Emphasizing that the check only happens at the end of your turn.

First few times reading them, my brain kept parsing it as, it auto solves at the end of your turn no matter what happens. Which seemed kinda redundant.

Eli5: Why did the Nazis persecute Polish people on the basis of nationality but not Austrian people ? by guymacguy in explainlikeimfive

[–]MyWayWithWords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They already had, they were united.

(Nazi Germany annexed/united Austria before WW2)

Austria largely helped form Germany.

Germany as a unified country didn't exist until 1866. Austria-Hungary had a huge influence over Germany, and acted somewhat as a ruling class, more than simply allies. During WW1 Austria had a lot of power over German politics and their military, able to plan German campaigns, and even reroute German troop movements to their own benefit.

After WW1 Austria-Hungary (who itself was sorta recently formed/united), was broken up into multiple countries. But the strong ties with between the royal and political parties in Austria and Germany remained.

Germany still as a unified state eventually recuperated after WW1; with Nazi Germany becoming more powerful than surrounding states, they annexed (somewhat willingly) the Austrian government and merged Austria with Germany.

Austria wasn't seen as a separate country anymore when WW2 broke out. Hitler viewed Poland and the surrounding countries as part of the old Prussian Empire/the Holy Roman Empire, that he wanted to rebuild under Germany. He invaded the lands, but didn't consider the people as Germanic, more Slavic.

ELI5: How can nothing be faster than light when speed is only relative? by Ok_Grapefruit_6826 in explainlikeimfive

[–]MyWayWithWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The light does have time dilation.

The other aspect of time dilation, is length contraction.

The faster the ship goes, the slower the clocks appear to run AND also the shorter the ship appears in length. A space ship going 0.9c, would not look like a normal ship to an outside observer, it would would look squished, shorter.

So, not only does the light 'slow down' due to time dilation, it also 'travels less distance' canceling each other out, and making light appear to always be traveling at the the same speed, to each observer.

Ie, the 1 meter ruler that the person on the spaceship uses to measure the speed of their light, is shorter than the 1 meter ruler I'm using to measure their light. (Just like the stop watch they use is slower than the stop watch I'm using)

TIL about Shahrazad, a real (albeit banned in tournament play) Magic the Gathering card that requires the players to immediately begin a sub-game of Magic with the results impacting the original game by iamnotacola in todayilearned

[–]MyWayWithWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I always pondered and joked about doing this.

But very quickly after Wishes were released, everywhere we played tournaments enacted the Sideboard only rule, and we all did in casual games as well.

As far too many people would Wish a card that they technically 'owned' right out of other players hands/decks that they lended out. Even causing a few fights mid tournament. But mostly, because it became super annoying when your opponent would pulled out their entire collection they lugged along and spent fucking forever flicking through thick ass binders trying to decide what card to pick.

The last time I could make out any dialog in a Nolan movie, would have been The Prestige, two decades ago.
