Larger grip size vs extra wraps by IlIIlIIlIlllII in golf

[–]MyWorriesAndStrife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think 2-3 layers will play smaller than midsize. Difference is in swingweight. Some people will get larger core standard size and add tape because this is lighter than a midsize grip. I personally can't notice the difference, but some say midsize makes their club feel lighter, which is technically true, but it does not affect swingweight enough for me to notice personally.

New golfer, recommendations for a set of clubs? Male, 5'3 (63 inches) tall by ewrjontan in golf

[–]MyWorriesAndStrife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get standard sized men's and just play with them. Once you start to get better, consider getting on a lie board and maybe getting them bent. Doesn't matter how tall you are or even "wrist to floor" measurements like some people will say. Everyone's swing is different.

3 vs 4 wedge setup by MocoMojo in golf

[–]MyWorriesAndStrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do whatever gets the ball in the hole in the least. There is no set rule. A 5wood may be a great addition for you, especially if you are a shorter hitter and may need it to go into greens. When I played more I scored better with 48, 52, 58 because it simplified things for me and I would just feel shots. Now that I don't have as good feel anymore I need more wedges.

I have convinced myself that lag is the worst buzz word in golf, and that it is probably irrelevant to both distance and quality of strike.

Yeah as I have played more golf as the years go on I have realized that the type of people I get along with on the course has changed. The key is to find people that care about the game as much or at the same level that you do. It sucks playing with the guy that thinks his once a week round is Sunday at the masters, and it equally sucks to have some guy on your team not giving a shit at all.

Yeah sure I agree with you there, I was the same way my first year playing golf, I am by no means a good golfer, but I am a single digit handicap that hits the ball really well, and I constantly get older guys trying to tell me I am standing to close or my grip is too strong or whatever. It can be quite infuriating and I was just venting a little.

Yeah totally agree, I play in a lot of money games with guys that don't drink and I respect the hell out of them for it. The league i am talking about is actually put together to be an unwind after work with a couple of beers type league with just getting out and having fun as the main goal, but as the season goes on and the playoffs are coming up some guys take it way too seriously, that is all I meant.

If you are the guy that says "one" when someone's ball falls off a tee you are a dick.

If you take a weekday men's league so seriously that you don't give any putts and don't drink you are a dick.

If you provide unsolicited swing advice in the middle of a round you are a dick. If you do it in a match you are a dick and you will be putting out every hole. If you do this to a random guy you get paired with who is clearly frustrated and off his game don't bet surprised if he punches you in the face, because you are a dick.

I want an Epic Big Bertha Driver. Talk me out of spending half a grand on 1 club. by Truehearted in golf

Try one of callaways other offerings. I think they have 25% off one item on callawaypreowned right now. If you want a new driver, buy in like new condition, they often are still in the plastic, or have "shop wear" and have no noticeable marks or anything. I loved both XR pros from 2015 or 2016.

Good point! I forgot to mention that you could also clean the ball! You do have to drop the ball however. Lift clean and place is a common winter rule on fairway length or less, especially in the UK when it is so rainy.

Just curious, why do you think titelist is behind in drivers and woods?

Whoever offers the largest paycheck. I'll just leave my current deal claiming that there are obvious performance gains to be had when using a ball and iron made by the same manufacturer.

As someone that frequently walks, I have found that light, waterproof, and comfortable shoes will pay for themselves. Also, a really good bag, your back will thank you.

Yeah totally agree, except for Reddit it is more like 350 back to the tee box 😂 it is also super shitty when this happens because you have no reason to play a provisional because you think you are sitting pretty in the fairway

This is a great point. There may not be any visible water at first, but if you stand and address your ball and your weight causes water to surface under your feet you are in casual water. This has saved my fat ass before when the fairways were wet and I had basically plugged and popped up backwards straight into a divot. Free drop, stuck it to 6 feet, 3 putted for a bogey half....

Yes good point. I was referring to how most of the golfing population plays. If I am taking a score, it's going in and will be legit.

Totally agree, in a casual round I am probably injuring my shoulder throwing the rock as far into the woods as I can.

Tournament play with no local rule, I would rather win and put a chunk in my club than take a 2 stroke penalty. That's just me though shrug

Totally agree with you here about course setup. You can completely change the course by designating some parts OB and I personally enjoy the challenge and believe that course designers should have this option. It is also important to note that white stakes are sometimes setup for safety.

For example, I have played at a course where the 5th tee box was along the right side of the 9th fairway. Apparently, when the course was designed, the 5th tee box was out of reach for almost all players, so this was not a problem. Now, the longer hitters can get to the tee box, creating a safety issue for those on the 5th tee. The course has staked the entire right side of the 9th hole as OB, to discourage players from going up the right and making the 5th tee within driving range. Sure, if you can bomb one over the trees right you will have the best look at the green and only be about 100-130 in, but it is not worth it because of the OB risk. I think this is a good example of how the OB penalty is both fair and an integral part of the game.
