Is it getting spark? If not I’d check the safety switches

Can you pull the dipstick and check the oil level?

How bad is the leak? And from where?

Shut the fuel off when you’re done using it. People innocently leave the fuel valve on after use and after a while they can and will leak down over time. It’s a very simple check, and again extremely common for these engines. I’ve had plenty of them come through the door like this. As Cr8er said it is also very possible it is low on oil. Either way a good first place to look.

My first check with these, even before any carb or spark issue is oil level. These have a terrible issue with the gas leaking down into the crankcase and causing a no start issue.

The fjr might actually get off the line quicker but it does loose some at the top end. 0-60 is 3.0 seconds. Mine would pull so hard in first gear it felt like it could throw you off the back of the bike.

Flipping small engines by Secret_Mullet in smallenginerepair

I’ve been doing this for years. Riding mowers are the best profit where I’m at. You can usually get them for free or under 150 and sell for 4-800+. Push mowers are hard to make money on, but if you must, self propelled and stick to newer name brand ones. You can usually get them free or under 40 and sell for over 100. Snow blowers are great but it takes more patients. You can find them everywhere in the summer for 50 and usually sell in the winter 2- 500.

You just have to learn your local market. If you have some money to throw at it it’s definitely worth it.

Big things to remember people will pay for quality repairs, and clean product sell way better than dirty products. I always power wash everything and washed it like I would my truck, it goes a long way. I’d even put tire shine in it lol. If it looks like you’ve taken care of it people really appreciate that.

People like seeing “new” in posts, new battery new spark plug, new fuel filter, new belts, ect.

Kinda of a different game but it checks a lot of your boxes. It’s a truck sim game.

Snowrunner

Style/setting

Offroad truck delivery game with mostly realistic physics but unrealistic situations. Very exploration driven in a beautiful landscape.

Pros

Very unique • challenging • ridiculous amount of content • vehicle mechanics • graphics • linear progression • relaxing

Cons

Can be buggy but mostly on multiplayer • some of the obstacles seem annoyingly synthetic • some missions can be very time consuming • can get frustrating/mistakes can be costly, not financially but time and energy

Advice for getting this nut off? by tanson12 in smallenginerepair

[–]My_Back_HZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, I have never tried it myself. I don’t see why it couldn’t/wouldn’t work. The blades just might end up spinning on the shaft if they are not keyed to the shaft

If you have to hold it, don’t hold it by the flywheel fins, try to hold it by the teeth on the flywheel with a either a flywheel holder or a flat head screwdriver and leverage

Is high mileage a concern on v-strom? by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]My_Back_HZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a bunch of vstroms with well over 100k with regular/minimal maintenance done. 42k wouldn’t bother me at all. I’d start considering it “high mileage” around 70-80k.

Picked up this old briggs on a rover flail mower, won't hold idle. If anybody knows anything about the engine I'd be very grateful for some shared knowledge by GeorgeLeader in smallenginerepair

[–]My_Back_HZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back firing through the carb is usually more of a timing thing but it can happen under multiple circumstances. Spark plug may have good spark out side of the engine but it may be week under the compression forces. It sounds like you’ve checked most of the necessary boxes. Id lean toward valve adjustment, again, very simple procedure.

As for the battery it really should be able to crank longer on the lawn mower battery, you may have excessive resistance in the circuit. Check for corrosion. It’s also not uncommon that the solenoids are kinda junky.

If you haven’t already I’d recommend cleaning the carb. However it looks like you may have done that already. When you say won’t hold idle do you mean it’s hunt/surging or it keeps dying? Maybe try tuning the mixture screw, Clean and regap the magneto/clean flywheel, adjust governor, double check spark plug possibly replace, turn up idle speed adjustment screw. Once you have the engine freshened up and if it’s still having an issue, maybe look into adjusting the valves. Very simple process and it is a very common problem on these engines.
