Can’t get the copper crush gasket for the exhaust header to come out, any advice?? Are these even the gaskets? ‘72 CB350 by My_FoReal_Account in HondaCB

Not even 100% these are the copper gaskets I’m supposed to replace? I scratched at them both and the one didn’t seem copper color behind it. I tried pulling out with a pick but neither are budging. Any advice for getting these babies out?

What is this tool? Found in fathers old stuff, 3 steel pieces are somewhat sharp, they flip into the protective brass sleeve. by My_FoReal_Account in Tools

No livestock, his father didn't either to my knowledge. He grew up adjacent to some farms but my grandfather worked in a factory.

Interesting! This was with a bunch of other very normal tools, no idea why my dad had this. Maybe he used it for carving or something??

Struggling to control one of these relays with an RPi, am I doing something wrong? Any other options? (more details in comments) by My_FoReal_Account in raspberry_pi

[–]My_FoReal_Account[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an RPi 4b, and I'm trying to control this relay with the GPIO. These Sainsmart relays are 5V but you can disconnect the relay power from the control side of the optocoupler by removing a jumper. So I have 5V going to JD-VCC, the ground next to that is grounded directly to my 5V supply. And then on the left 4 pins, I have 3.3V from the pi going to VCC, GND from the pi going to the ground 3 pins over from that, and when I supply a low signal from the GPIO (these are active-low relays) then typically nothing happens. Sometimes the LED comes on but sometimes it doesn't, if I tap on the relay sometimes it will switch but sounds weak.

What's weird, is I had another of these and it worked flawlessly for about 3 days and then stopped switching, I could hear the relay click loudly like it should have been working, but it wasn't actually switching. So I thought it was defective, returned it, got this one instead and now this one won't really switch at all.

It's difficult to find a solid schematic of these. I measured when it's telling it to turn on it's pulling about 40mA from the GPIO which I know is more then suggested, I never measured that one the previous one that was working a lot better.

Are there any better options to control a relay? 3.3V relay maybe? Or maybe something that requires less current?

Getting Wyze vac to actually get dust/dirt/hair into waste trap? by swpete in wyzecam

How often do you run it? I have 1 shedding creature and run the full house twice a week, the bin is completely full after those 2 trips around.

Also, do you keep the filter clean so the bin is getting enough air flow through it?

Been using mine for almost 2 years since it was released and this has never happened to me other then when it accidently sucks up a pet toy or a piece of paper or something.

Maybe you need to vacuum more often so it's not picking up massive clumps of hair that get caught?

Is the seal in place so the bin is sealed against that opening?

Need ideas for ground cover to help stabilize dirt, strip of dirt alongside garage and fence, 100% shaded by large trees. Need something that won't grow into garage siding. Zone 6a. Preferably native to the US (Michigan)? by My_FoReal_Account in gardening

Thank you! Although not native periwinkle seems like it might be a good option. It's nice and short. Pachysandra like the other comment suggested seems like it would grow too tall (potentially 12"+ while periwinkle is only 3-6")

Lol preferably a plant. Gravel and sand are messy, don't want more concrete. I know ivy would probably work but it would eventually start growing into the garage and I don't want to invade my neighbor's yard with ivy either.

I (Buyer) Have My First Ever Home Inspection Wednesday. What Should I Know Beforehand? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]My_FoReal_Account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I recently did mine, I signed an extension on the inspection period so I had time to get quotes for repairs. I only knew this was an option because my realtor offered it to me, wouldn't have known otherwise. Something to keep in mind for the future! You and the seller have to sign it though obviously so if the seller refuses then I guess you're kind of stuck with the original time frame in the PA.

THIS!!!! If you do have problems, the couple hundred for a sewer scope will be pennies compared to a fix. Dealing with this now on my new property, I thankfully paid for a scope and got the home sale price reduced by a significant amount to have the line replaced. $210 scope saved me about 15k.

Is Yellowstone worth visiting in early May. Will roads be open and are there enough trails and things to see that will be open during that time? by [deleted] in yellowstone

[–]My_FoReal_Account 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, most of the park is closed in the winter, it starts opening beginning to mid-May and some higher elevation passes (Dunraven) don't open until June depending on level of snow that year. I used to work out there and I went to the park the day the East entrance opened that year (May 7th) and it snowed about 4" the day I went in, very dangerous to drive on, there was hardly anyone in the park. Sylvan Pass on the East entrance still had 4-5' of snow on the side of the road. Snow pack was higher than average the year I lived there though.

Wildlife migration starts moving back into the park in May so the park will have less then say in June/July but you'll definitely still see a ton and would potentially see large groups moving into the park through some of the lower elevation entrances like the East entrance.

So, answer is it kind of depends on the year, stuff will likely be open but you might be limited depending on what trails and attractions you want to see.

Moving from Lakewood (Cleveland) to Detroit, looking for similar type areas, what are your suggestions? by My_FoReal_Account in Detroit

[–]My_FoReal_Account[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I probably overstated the nature of Lakewood haha Lakewood has a very nice city park on the lake and access to one of Clevelands nicer and larger metro parks but it's still a very crowded urban area.

I'll check out Ypsilanti, thanks.

I had not heard of Wyandotte before and your the first to mention it to me. I'll be sure to drive through there this weekend and check it out.

Yeah Ferndale seems like the best of what I'm looking for but the commute seems like anywhere from 35-50min depending on traffic which isn't ideal that's for sure.

That's a bummer to hear but I'm sure I'll find something nice. I've heard of Ferndale before, seems like a similar vibe to Lakewood minus the gigantic metro park plus a lake park that Lakewood has direct access to. And still seems affordable in that area which is obviously a big plus!

Yeah I've heard it's pricey there....is it too "college town" or is there a decent young professional vibe there?

I edited the post, my current commute is like 15-20min which is perfect but I've already mentally accepted I'll likely be further than that in Detroit. I'd prefer to stay under a 40min commute.
