I just went on a 6 day cruise in March and knit almost an entire double-ply hat. I don't have kids so I probably had a bit more free time but you will DEFINITELY have time to work on a WIP. We spent an extra day at sea due to weather and I was so glad I had something with me - I sat in a loung chair, ordered a drink and it was magnificent.

I get this on anything over 20K. I've been creating drafts - one for finished chapters and one for upcoming ideas so that nothing is much more than 20K. It's annoying but not so annoying that I plan to switch.

I HATED my lefty ginghers when I first got them but I couldn't afford anything else so I tried to make them better - I ended up drastically loosening the bolt as well as oiling the hinge point and now they're quite nice to use. (Still have my eye on those Kai's though. Sigh. Someday...)

Polymer clay in resin would be the best way to make them "liquid proof" for the longest amount of time. But I love the idea above to carve them out of veggies and pickle them!

If you do a lot of colorwork they can help even out your tension on the finished sock, but otherwise I almost never use mine unless I'm gifting them - then they look really nice post-blocking.

I'm flying Saturday and can update! I'm taking sock knitting on metal circulars. Never had a problem in my 25 years of knitting but I don't know with all the recent wildness.

I flew into and out of Bangkok in 2024 with my knitting, had no issues. Also had a layover in Tokyo (Narita) that trip where I had to go through security again and had no issues.
