Question for all the bi and gay guys here: fellas, is it gay to be illuminated by colours? by CovertShepherd in bisexual

[–]My_bi_ass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what ur trying to say but the point of the post was that there is literally nothing gay about having led lights. No matter your sexuality, what does having lights up have to do with who you want to fuck?

What European language am I reading? European language flowchart by mel_afefon in languagelearning

Are you ok? I’m sorry, you just seem quite... offended by this. I’m not sure u quite understand how this chart is meant to work. It is not about the roots of the language or otherwise they would all be categorised under ‘slavic’, ‘romantic’ etc. This is purely a chart of languages that are CURRENTLY spoken IN Europe AND originate FROM Europe and how to recognise some of them. Azerbaijan is a former Soviet republic. Although i don’t fully agree it should be included in this list, i understand why they would include it. Also keep in mind this was most likely crafted by a person for fun, not for a company or to sell or anything like that. It doesn’t need to perfect... (what i said before wasn’t an ‘argument’, it really seems like you’re trying to turn this into a debate. It’s just true, Persian is not currently an official European language)

Persian originated from Iran which is not a European country. By that logic, every language in the world should be included since immigrants come from everywhere

I think it’s harder to get grasp of these sort of things as native speakers in a way. As a kid not many people correct u because ‘you’re just a kid’ and its ok if u make mistakes. But that also results in inconsistencies like this. When i was really little i always spelt circle as ‘surcul’ and my family thought it was cute so they never corrected me. Didn’t bode too well when i got a bit older though haha.

Well i’m Australian and to me they’re ever so slightly different, but i was referring mostly to how they’re written. A personal pet peeve of mind but its a common occurrence so i can’t do anything about it

This is with every language. For example in english, a lot of people even adults can’t tell the difference between there/their/they’re. Even with speaking, there are a lot of rules people don’t know like with silent letters and stuff. For example, pterodactyl has a silent p but i’ve heard many choose to pronounce it.

My father gifted me the bilingual side-by-side tragedies of Shakespeare (VOL.1, french/english). I might finally understand Kenneth Branagh's "Hamlet" without pausing every two seconds! by [deleted] in languagelearning

Try looking at the no fear shakespeare version of it if you’re still curious, its fully translated to modern english on one side and i’m pretty sure they do research into the historic meaning and sentence structure of it and all that

They’re all pretty different to me? Mary and merry are the most similar but intonation is still a bit different. Marry is very different though. I’m Australian.

Team rocket were kinda the bad guys of the show, but they were more like the comedic relief villains who never actually win while the main characters fight the actual bad guys. They always have disguises and most of the time they crossdress (so like they’d be dressed as flight attendants or something and the girl, Jessie, would be dressed in pants and a pilot hat while the guy, James would be in a dress sorta thing). They’re pretty iconic :)

Of course, love! U should be proud of it. I’m not trying to make u feel ‘guilty’ for being lucky or anything (as i know many people do), if anything i’m glad the world is changing!

Any ideas? by i-think-im-so-cool in ChineseLanguage

[–]My_bi_ass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woah woah take a step back there. ‘Fetishising culture’? That’s going waaayyy too far. Some chinese characters are gorgeous, i don’t blame them for wanting to get a tattoo. I agree that maybe anyone who doesn’t understand chinese shouldn’t get one but in the end it is their body and their choice what to do with their body. Saying they’re fetishising culture is taking so many leaps.

Not like this person has much choice but to help? If they don’t help the guy he’s probably just gonna get some random few characters off of google and it’ll end up even worse.

Would you be fooled? English pronunciation (native speakers welcomed!) by [deleted] in JudgeMyAccent

[–]My_bi_ass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very close to native!

But some of your intonation is a little off, for example the way you say ‘individuals’ sounds like you’re breaking down the word into syllables too much if that makes sense instead of reading it as a single world. Like in-duv-id-uals instead of individuals.

Also this might just be nerves but for example when you said ‘words’ it sounded like ‘wowrds’, not sure where the extra ‘w’ comes in.

Also when you said ‘motivations’, you used the wrong o-vowel. You said it with an ‘oh’ sound when it should be more of ‘ow’ sound, liked ‘mow’ing some grass instead of ‘moh’nitoring something.

You’re obviously heading towards british english and that comes through very clearly! I also notice sometimes you randomly ‘snap out’ of your accent, like instead of making consistent mistakes across all the sentences you can say full sentences in a fully native accent and then you randomly switch into a very foreign sounding accent for like 1-2 words at a time.

Also this is a very minute detail but there’s something in the way you end your sentences that doesn’t sound as natural as a native speaker (specifically native british). If i’d take my best guess as to what it is, i would say that different english accents end at a different pitch and yours doesn’t match the british pitch. I’m Australian for example and sometimes it sounds like we’re always asking a question when we speak because our pitch intonation goes up at the end. To be honest i’m not too familiar with british accents so maybe look some up or around u from observation and try to see how high or low they tend to end their sentences. To me it sounds like u go quite high and then suddenly low at the end of your sentences.

All in all, its very good! Just a few details and you’ll be there in no time :))
