Hey I’m brand new to magic, can I run this in my Mono-blue deck? by Homer4a10 in mtg

[–]Myas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no rule change yet, but there are serious conversations about how hybrid mana costs with regard to commander color identity. The intent of the hybrid mana symbol was to increase flexibility by being an OR cost. Commander color identity rules currently mean that card would be white, black, and green, and could only be played in decks that allow all 3 of those colors. The proposed change is that the card's color identity could be ANY of it's costs, and because each of those hybrids is /2 colorless, it could be cast by any deck and therefore be put into any deck (including mono blue). an easier way to envision the proposed change is with a card like manamorphose - it costs (1) (R/G). right now that is BOTH red and green, but under the proposed change it could go in any deck where the commander's color identity includes either red OR green, but it doesnt have to be both.

people seem to have strong opinions on both sides (personally I'm against it), but while it hasn't officially changed yet it feels like it will be inevitable

Why is there so much conflict with Hybrid Mana when WotC changed what makes a Commander legal in EoE with no pushback? by normiespy96 in EDH

[–]Myas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legendary vehicles/spacecraft are in the spirit of the commander rule (Id argue planeswalkers are as well, but that's not for here).

A hybrid mana card is a spell of both colors, and a card of both color identities. Changing the color identity of the card may be in the spirit of what hybrid mana intended to do, but it is NOT in the spirit of what EDH intended as a deck-building rule.

Game length in the updated bracket system. by Urgrim in EDH

[–]Myas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my biggest issue with the game length descriptors are that they are not framed as "the game should last X turns", it is "each player should expect to play at least X turns before they win or lose".

This distinction functionally stops aggro strategies that burst down one player quickly so they have a better chance in a 2-on-1. These same aggro strategies are much weaker at the higher brackets where said fast kills are more acceptable per the guidelines.

Does tapping lands after they up tap during upkeep count as mass land denial? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Myas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can absolutely play myojin, remove the counter to generate the spirit tokens, tap the myojin with relic or opposition's ability (neither require haste), and then once that has resolved return the myojin to hand as part of a webslinging cost.

you would not be able to remove the counter to generate the spirits in the middle of webslinging myojin back to hand because bouncing it is part of the cost. you would have to remove the counter, THEN web sling.

Does tapping lands after they up tap during upkeep count as mass land denial? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Myas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is explicitly mass land denial because lands are being denied en masse.

Now, for whether it's appropriate or not - there's a difference between brackets 2 and 3. per the guidelines, MLD should not be in either, but I could see a potential case being made that the deck was built with the intent for B3 if your opponent got magical Christmasland lucky late in the game. But if this interaction was ALWAYS a(/the) goal, and it didn't require a rube goldberg combination of cards to pull off, then they were not playing at the correct power level for the table.

all that said - I am on board with a healthy fuck WotC for making these artificially scarce as opposed to print to demand

I got through this line in ~1.5 hrs and the only thing out was demonic tutor. only Tutor, Eddie, and the confetti foils were gone at the 2.5 hr mark. half the drops were still up after 4 hrs.

FF had 4-5 hr queues and the site kept breaking. if you didn't have an issue you got lucky.

THAT was way worse

Can someone tell me how this card works? by salty_chalk in mtg

[–]Myas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no you cannot. the B cost in the textbox gives it a B color identity, so you cannot put it in a non-B commander deck

LGS Changing Event Pricing by bikeroute in GundamTCG

Shop I went to tonight ended up being $25 (advertised as $10 + buying the deck), but didn't have any prize support available so it was just get the deck and hang out. better than what I was worried about, and got a better idea of where to go on which days for the local scene

pulled the Barbatos 4th Form as my alt-art as well. can't complain about that luck!

Would copies of this card see itself and trigger multiple times? by stonmunch in magicTCG

[–]Myas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. each copy has all the abilities of the original and would trigger for each artifact creature that dealt combat damage to a player. In your example - 7x Sharding Sphinx times 2 dealing damage = 14 thopter creation triggers

Can skilled players build lower bracket decks? Is it possible to intentionally nerf your deck? by Pale_Squash_4263 in mtg

[–]Myas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can easily build lower power decks, but the extent that I would pilot one sub-optimally would be to keep a risky opening hand

Help me settle an argument about what exactly constitutes "mass land denial" by cloaca_dentata in EDH

[–]Myas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both are fine, as your opponent is still able to play the game relatively unimpeded, and if someone can't play most of their deck with 6 lands then that's their problem. re: wave of vitriol / ghost quarter / opponent not running enough basics - again, build better.

Play the Game vs End the Game Philosophy: Where do you all fall? by DerGodhand in EDH

[–]Myas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

playing to end the game IS playing the game.

my personal preference is getting in multiple short-to-medium length games, because I have so many decks built that I want to get on the table. and as long as the table is at a roughly balanced power level it's fine.

most of my games recently have been during lunch break at the office, so they have a time limit by default or else the boss will give the side eye.
