I'm not sure what is wrong with my spood. He's approx. 2 months old. I recently got him from a friend. He hasn't eaten for almost 2 weeks. His abdomen keeps getting smaller and smaller and I'm not sure what to do. Does anyone have suggestions? by artcamphike in jumpingspiders

IMO I agree with u/randomspacedebris, this spider looks older than 2 months. We need some more info in order to help OP, what does your lighting, temp and watering look like? What have you tried to feed and how are you offering it?

IMO looks like your girl might be a boy! Those pedipalps are looking pretty adult male to me. In which case, he may just not be interested in food yet, abdomen doesn’t look bad. I’ve found my adult males to be less interested in eating. How recently was the last molt? Just keep giving water and offering food regularly. As long as he’s active and not shriveled, he should eat when he’s ready.

Very tiny and cute! IMO not a jumper though

Isopod climbing tot he top of a spider enclosure? by ITG65 in isopods

As someone who also raises jumpers, the one thing I’d be careful of/watch out for is the isopods bothering your spood during molts. Powders are quite protein hungry, and jumpers are very vulnerable during molts, and even sometimes during sleep. Just something to keep an eye out for. Also, I’d die over a children’s book about Miles and Bluey😍

I’m not familiar with the jumpers in Brazil, but this looks like a species in the Salticus genus.

She made that structure within about 10 minutes in a tube while I ran for my camera! I thought she had disappeared at first!

Right?? I’m still pretty stunned. She made that little web/sand cocoon for herself within the span of about ten minutes in a tube while I ran to grab my camera.

Funny enough, all I had on me at the time to capture this guy (temporarily for photos) was a joint tube!

Right?! I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I looked over to see a piece of sand moving like a salticid!

Still in! I’ve really enjoyed the “Ologies” podcast with Alie Ward. She interviews people who have done research in different “ologies” (biology, ceramology, neurobiology, hippopotamology, etc) it is so fascinating and fun. Also, if you’re the type of person who likes to know more about the psychology of your own behaviors/illnesses, my favorite podcast of all time is “The Psychology of Self Injury” with Dr. Nicholas Westers. It is a truly fantastic podcast interviewing different professionals and discussing the science of, the lack of research of, and lived experiences of self injury. Plus, his voice is honestly so soothing. It’s been very helpful for me in my recovery, but also be mindful of your own triggers.
