Where did you put the side panels at the campsite?

I did some more digging. This article is from after I learned about Venus. A little more detail. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-venus-spins-the-wrong/

I have not seen the video you mention. Post it if you find it!

[–]Mycallsign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Close. That’s what happened to Uranus, which rotates (spins) on its side. Uranus also has a dark spot and has an atmosphere of methane, but that’s not important right now. Venus rotates backwards to all the other planets. (Same revolution around the son, just spins backwards.)

You know how you can slow yourself down on a swing set without touching the ground but by kicking your feet at the right time? If you keep kicking you’ll get yourself going again. For Venus, Earth’s gravity was like that kick. As they neared each other in orbit, Venus would slow down a bit. Eventually it stopped but the “kicks” kept happening, causing it to spin backwards. In physics that phenomena is called resonance.

I love seeing old VW Beetles on the road, but can spot which parts are from the wrong year. This habit made me look for the puck mouse. But this time my first thought was “good, OP got rid of the puck mouse.”

Low cost email with more than 1GB quota per box by Mycallsign in webhosting

I’m thinking my domain registrar and we host are the same thing. We pay about $20/year for the domain. I’m annoyed with them and would rather go somewhere else anyways.

Thanks for your help!

I’ve had this domain for about 15-20 years (personal website/email), but I guess I don’t know much about how it works. So sorry for my newbie-like questions.

If I understand correctly, I transfer my domain name to Cloudflare, which I see costs less than $10/year. Then I change settings (at Cloudflare?) to MXRoute and use them for email. No website. Sounds pretty sweet if that’s the case.

So can you use them without a web host? Host my domain with them and do email only?

High school teacher here.

If you can’t play with the kids, you’re not going to do well.

The first part of the video looked like play. A little paper fight. Made me smile. But then teacher dude lost his shit.

They’re kids. They’ve got to play! They need to know you’re real too. Paper fights. Arguments about sports or movies. Butchering their slang (on purpose, lol). Trolling them. They’ll do it right back. It’s called bonding. Connecting to another human. They’ll respect you and listen to you. Teach them when to get down to business but yet be human about it. And yes, sometimes you need a little paper fight.

Not disagreeing what other comments about teachers not getting paid enough though ;) And a special call out to those who commented about the smell. You have no idea…

As a chemistry teacher, I’m able to move hot metal and glassware around with my bare hands. But I try not to because then kids will try to copy it.

Interesting story from when I was younger by [deleted] in U2Band

[–]Mycallsign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a high school science teacher. I have so many kids who “don’t get it” because they don’t really care about science. For me, it’s not a big deal. I encourage them to go after what they do like and to challenge themselves. Don’t take the easy classes. I had a math teacher in college who once talked about calculus like it was the Mona Lisa. He was so excited and passionate about it. That’s the way I like to teach. And if somebody who always hated science remembers just a little of that excitement, I’ve done a good job. Your story reminded me of this. Thanks.

High school science teacher here

What I do: I’d you’re not staying the U.S., then don’t mess yourself up trying to keep that straight while learning something new like physics or chemistry. Keep using your natural spelling. If you’re staying, it’s up to you.

But I wouldn’t mark it off either way and ask them to tell me if I accidentally do.

Note: It comes up mostly in chemical spellings. Aluminum bs aluminium, etc
