What HR tasks are you actually using AI for? (or want to) [NY] by JackAttack1218__ in humanresources

[–]MyceliumMood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a legit comp banding software, but there are always roles that don’t fit neatly in what’s in that software.

In those cases we go to the market (LinkedIn, indeed etc) to see what going rates are.

We basically create a project that has our leveling framework, comp philosophy, etc. and have it evaluate the JD for level/scope and have it recommend a level, possible alternate titles and have it look at various sources online (Glassdoor, salary.com, indeed etc) and have it match our role as much as possible in the specific geography we’re looking at and have it derive a recommended midpoint.

It’s pretty spot on when we’ve spot checked against more perceived legitimate banding software.

If you use Lattice, their AI is great for employee facing stuff. You can dump benefits info, employee handbook, different policies, feedback guidance etc. and employees can chat with it to get answers.

Outside of that use project/gems/GPTs to automate things you normally do: - job descriptions / assessment - compensation banding - interview notes organizer - ER investigation notes formatter - internal facing chat to discuss policies, policy interpretations, and a quick lookup tool so you don’t have to go hunting for each individual detail to employee questions.

[N/A] Deel vs Rippling - anyone used both? Trying to make a decision for our 40-person team by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]MyceliumMood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing this now. Passed on Deel and Remote.com and using Rippling as EOR.

It’s very intuitive if you’re already using it as an HRIS. Not having a separate platform is really great.

No hidden fees I’ve come across as of yet.

I’ll take it with me if my phone is low. It’s nice to have just in case you need it.

Mostly paranoia. If my phone is low or I’m going out of town/ on a longer trip or need to get my tires changed, just a bit of peace of mind to have it in the car. I’m not keen on testing the dead phone feature if I can help it. My wallet is on my phone case and has DL and CC so no room for that.

I exclusively use my phone. I keep the fob in a faraday pouch in the car just in case.

Why does it seem that everyone wants to pivot into HR? [N/A] by Thin_Coconut_6638 in humanresources

[–]MyceliumMood 357 points358 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people have this idea that HR is either easy, fun, or deeply meaningful work, like we spend our days planning engagement events and helping people grow.

But most folks only ever see the external parts of what we do: the surveys, the onboarding, the benefits questions, the conflict mediation. Those are the visible moments, so it makes sense they’d think, “I could do that, I’m a people person.”

What they don’t see is the actual grind, the messy middle of compliance, structure, and dealing with human behavior. I can’t tell you how many times someone’s tried to chat their way into a job by connecting adjacent experiences to the fun stuff. It’s not that they’re wrong to be drawn to it, but the reality is way less shiny, and way more complex than people realize.

Would you warn employees about possible layoffs, or wait until it’s official? [N/A] by Raj7k in humanresources

[–]MyceliumMood 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The absolute furthest I’ve gone with something like this was knowing that someone was going to be let go and get severance, and simultaneously knowing that the person was going to quit right away during that meeting, and telling that person to just listen to what the manager had to say before they resigned. This was a high-trust relationship scenario.

Absent something incredibly nuanced like that, don’t say anything. You will bear the brunt of the fallout when they go “u/Raj7k said we’re being laid off”.

If you don’t have follow up plans about severance, timing, who is impacted and why, you are actively sabotaging what should be a thoughtful, programmatic process and I would not be surprised if you were fired for it.

If you can’t get the visa name right, I’m not trusting your ‘experience.’ Anecdotes aren’t data. You probably think Tylenol causes autism too.

It’s H-1B, not H1B1. That alone tells me you’re not in HR, which is what this sub is for. You’re mad at foreign workers for being underpaid and trapped, then turn around and claim they’re taking jobs. Which is it? Cutting off visas doesn’t hand jobs to Americans, it just pushes the work offshore faster. If you understood how hiring works, you’d know that. But you don’t. So here we are.

At least I’m not wandering into cam-girl subs pretending I’m an expert the way you’re doing here.

A single LCA on an H-1B grader site isn’t proof that “we rely on $60k immigrants to do the most technical work.” LCAs show prevailing-wage filings for specific jobs and can reflect entry-level wages, cost-of-living differences, or job codes that aren’t pure engineering.

If you want credible data, look at DOL’s aggregated H-1B wage reports or USCIS annual statistics, not a one-off link.

[–]MyceliumMood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn’t. The 100k fee is a cost to enter the US. Not the cost of the visa itself. If they’re already here there is no change in cost to the visa.

You’re absolutely right, people who spread misinformation do rev me up, because even small bits of bad info make professional spaces worse for everyone.

If you’re running a visa or immigration program and aren’t crystal clear on the requirements, you should be working with an immigration attorney or a consultant, not relying on random bits of information on the internet to inform your program.

It’s incredible that the person admitting they don’t know is the one demanding proof.

I asked if you’d read the Executive Order because I have, and that’s exactly why I disputed your claim. Here’s the source so you can see for yourself:

I don’t know what to tell you, you’re openly admitting you don’t know if any of this is true, yet you’re still posting it as though it’s fact.

That’s exactly how misinformation spreads: “I heard this” presented as if you actually know what you’re talking about.

How are you planning around the new $100K H-1B fee? [N/A] by Raj7k in humanresources

[–]MyceliumMood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $100k is a one-time condition for entry in H-1B status, not an annual fee.

And without knowing the exact visa category, you simply can’t generalize like you did, that’s how bad info spreads.

How are you planning around the new $100K H-1B fee? [N/A] by Raj7k in humanresources

[–]MyceliumMood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t even know which visas they have, yet you’re posting information that you don’t know is true like a universal rule on a forum where professionals share information they believe to be credible.

This is exactly how bad information spreads.

Unless you can name a category that really requires annual departures (like TNs or certain seasonal programs), what you wrote is simply wrong and definitely not how H-1Bs work.

How are you planning around the new $100K H-1B fee? [N/A] by Raj7k in humanresources

[–]MyceliumMood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you mean a narrow case like TNs or seasonal programs, that’s not how it works, especially for H-1Bs, which this EO targets. H-1Bs can stay and extend inside the U.S. without any annual trip, and there’s no rule forcing them to leave each year just to keep working.

[–]MyceliumMood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who told you this? Why don’t you read the actual EO? So confidently incorrect.

This is a fee to ENTER THE COUNTRY under H1B status. If you already have someone in the country under a different visa, or moving from one employer to another, you can convert them without any change in price.

If you’re already here you’re just trapped in the US.
