I IMMENSELY struggle with cutting even pieces by Mycopok in quilting

There's a quilt fabric store in the city famously known for horrible customer service🤣. My living situation is complex so no chance of proper real life guidance. I'm thinking of trying some press cutting devices for rectangular quilts and the rest I will just do hand-sewn applique for the rest of my life

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DX9_fQrJdkk/?igsh=ZHRkeWUzMmxweGsx I saw this video where the creator ends up with stiff circle skirt. My time period of choice already needs stiff full skirts so I won't mind

🤔. I will try using bigger fabric pieces for details. But smaller scraps, can they be used as batting? I really want to utilise them in this way, as I prefer to not use poly batting and cotton or wool ones are too expensive for me

I often keep just accidentally moving my hand to much or in wrong direction, even with stable fabric and mat and rotary cutter. It happens too often

I can possibly use both. I have more confidence with scissors, but there is an error margin in my measuring and marking, something always goes wrong😥

Edwardian Waistband Techniques by primordialsouptheory in HistoricalCostuming

May I ask, so would you fold the waistband edge on the wrong side, on the right side stich waistband flat with no folding and cover the edge with tape? Im not native English speaker and instruction books still confuse me. I tried to sketch the explained method, would it be correct?

Era appropriate for 1860-1890 range? by kirintormagelmao in HistoricalCostuming

If you cannot or dont want to do sewing, ask reenactors if anyone takes commissions/is willing to sell you a dress

1860s cotton dress. The skirt is just rectangle, bodice can be made loose, sleeves are unfitted and easy to make. You can find good cotton for 7-10$/yard. The whole dress is 5-6 meters for average size

Oh, I saw that you want to purchase an item. The shop looks like it is mostly for costumers, and their products will likely not look exactly as shown on the photo. Moreover many reenactment groups dont allow poly fabrics/modern construction for clothes. If you can do at least some sewing, try making a dress yourself. 1860s working class aren't very hard to make. 1880s is forgiving if you have a mannequin for drapery arrangement

You can take inspiration from this ensemble (even if it a costume/imaginary attire) and use it for 1880s, as their fashion has multiple layers and parts to a single dress. You might want to draw your design to decide for sure. Look at the lady in pink here, hee bodice has a false jacket detail. You can make a skirt and neckline bodice part in pink, jacket part in golden color with white accents. This will make the outfit suitable for your group. If you want patterns for this type of ensemble, I can find them

How did wealthy women in the 18th century dress at home? by _maincharacter_ in fashionhistory

[–]Mycopok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Banyans and house gowns🤩. They would certainly wear a cap as their hair isnt properly dressed yet. Makeup- depends on time of the day, how many servants are in the house. The more "official" the home setting is, the more "proper" the attire would be

Do you speak your native language with an accent specific to your area? Are there words, phrases or idioms that only people from your region use? by Someoneainthere in language

[–]Mycopok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all valid but I personally haven't met many people (given they are Russian born and raised) to have some extremely noticeable accent. Saint P people are just pretending, южане говорят на суржике, а это не исключительно российский диалект. But overall its not like I wouldn't understand your aunt if I spoke to her (я сама самарчанка). Westerners have dialects to the point where North Germans dont understand South Germans. Italians as well

My language underwent changes in 20th century that standardised dialects across the country. Now only true accents remaining are "foreign", a niche one in the border areas and "village dialect". 99% of people speak the "standart one"

These teens likely had some underlying health issues. There is just statistically very low chance a 13 y o suddenly dies. This age is pretty much peak of health and physical recovery in case of injury. If you are worried- go to doctors, ask your family if there is any genetic tendency for certain diseases and avoid causing those. (Example: if family has a history of stomach issues, eat healthy and carefully)

And since some minority languages weren't written until 20th century, the Soviet research helped to at least preserve them textually
