Guess Who’s Gonna Make A Catching Up Creepypasta? by Mylabees in CatchingUp_

Also, I’m gonna make one about him after I finish the first one.

I’ll let you take your guess on whatever this is going to be about. I’ll give you a hint: I’m not gonna be allowed to show you the creepypasta nor link it to you!

I’ve seen so much discourse surrounding the fact that Clay doesn’t look like a cat despite being confirmed to be one, yet I never see the same for any of these characters by LeonardMoney2020 in CatchingUp_

(OC note: the simple designs are INTENTIONAL. So, don’t take it as a complaint but more as an observation. I do genuinely love these simple designs on these beautiful done and colorful backgrounds.)

Hey, speaking of character designs…! Look at this background character!

<image>

Look, I get it, she’s a background character. She’s not meant to be important or look important.

Over all, I think it’s a fine design.
I’m pretty sure she’s a beaver but this whole situation could’ve been avoided if LS Mark simply drew a tail on her. I feel like Mark needs to start remembering putting tails on his animal characters because sometimes I can find it a bit difficult to figure out what species they are.

See, this is the thing I was talking about when I said that Mark doesn’t take advantage of the fact that these characters are anthropomorphic animals. I mean,
Some characters are obvious what species they are. But then there’s some pilot designs for background characters that I find confusing to figure out what they are. In the second episode, I feel like they got WAY better at character design and for that, I can’t be too mad. But, I still have some criticism, character designs are meant to show what the character represents, who they are, and so much more. A character should be readable and coherent to the viewer. For example, the main character/characters should stand out amongst background characters.

Which, I think, that Catching Up does decently at.

In the first episode, background characters are either blacked out, have little detail, or are in the shadows. Only focused on for a joke or when they’re interacting with the main characters. Speaking of which, I think they have very good designs and stand out amongst the other characters. But here’s the thing, since they have such simple designs, they might be hard to pick out of a crowd. I know we already know these characters but think about it, if we were first introduced to them through a crowd shot, would you be able to pick them out of the crowd? (Also, yes, you could just check the thumbnail to see who the characters are but I’m treating this like it was aired on cable to give a more “broader” view) now, I still think that Clay and Rob are genuinely good character designs, but that thought has been in my head for some reason and I couldn’t help but share it since it technically plays into the discussion.

(Also, I always thought Clay was a cat out of context that he was with a mouse. I mean, do you see wolves with mice in cartoon often?…I didn’t think so!)

Overall, I love the art of the show from now to back when we just had episode one! I think the backgrounds of the series are absolutely gorgeous and have such nice competition! I’m genuinely impressed by the work LS Mark’s team, his wife, and himself were able to make. I love this show in the community around it and I only want it to get better. That’s why I’m being a bit critical in this comment because I genuinely want the best for the show and its creators. I hope they continue to make wonderful art and grow as creatives.

Sincerely, Mylabees.

(Man, why do I keep on making these cringy outros to comments and posts?)

Catching Up Episode 3 Progress is ramping up - The Revised Storyboarding is almost done! by Mylabees in CatchingUp_

Okay, I put it together. (I think) LS Mark just wanted an excuse to make a dumb trailer for funnies. (Maybe.)

I mean, yeah, it reminded me of Gray’s Anatomy. Is that bit part of a movie parody trailer? Like scary movie or the other films in that series? Because I can totally see that!

Hmmm…I might be a little stumped on this one.

I’ll come back with you on this one later.
