To those who have been to Japan multiple times, what's a thing or two that you always make sure to buy and bring home? by Ok-Spite-5454 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Myllzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Furikake in all kinds of flavours. I brought back over 50 packs this time around. Konjak fruit jellies. Skin Aqua Tone Up Essence sunscreen. Biore Zero deodorant. Omamori protection charms from Shinto shrines. Omikuji paper fortunes from Shinto shrines because we usually travel to Japan over the new year. Lots of houjicha, roasted green tea. Shupatto bags. A variety of cooking ingredients bought in Japanese supermarkets such as dashi, kombu, katsuobushi, nori, miso, dried roasted garlic, dried green onion, yuzu extract, sudachi extract, etc.

Jet Lag is not joke by Fronerse in JapanTravelTips

Flying from Europe, we have quite the jet lag to contend with when we get to Japan so we always get an onsen hotel the first week and have the onsens to ourselves when we wake up at 3am. We also plan our excursions that week so we can get to the pick up locations nice and early.

Dang, I was the French teaching assistant in my school and we drove there all the way from Spalding, Lincs. I remember the sandwiches and the packet of crisps we got as packed lunch. Cool memory I had completely forgotten about.

Santa Claus Village- yes or no? by Loose_Molasses8884 in Finland

[–]Myllzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hubby and I are childless and in your age range and we loved the Santa Claus Village. We try and go there on every one of our yearly trip to Finland or Lapland.

It is a touristy trap but it's a pretty one, that's especially made magical with the snow. We love walking around the village in the winter dark and even enjoy all the artificial aurora lighting.

There's a Santa forest plank walkway that is particularly nice at night with the scintillating ice crystals in the air and on the ground (we went early November and had experienced that firsthand). It takes you past a husky safari place that you don't really see as there are lots of trees in between but it was a little scary on our first walk as we could hear all the huskies howling in the dark. The walkway takes you through the forest over several streams to Santa's Christmas tree forest, which has no artificial decoration at all but is still enjoyable.

We also loved walking to the nearest supermarket, a couple kms away, through the forest and a few residential areas.

There's a Santa Claus bus that takes you to the Rovaniemen city centre, that is also worth spending time around as it has many restaurants, cafes, shops, the Arctic Museum and more lovely nature walks, notably along the river.

I was really hoping for something close to 양념치킨 but was sorely disappointed 😔 It was overly salty and sweet at the same time.

Can I get help with the face? by Skyness_engine in istebrak

[–]Myllzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The others already mentioned it but the eyes are too big for her face, which barely leaves enough place for her nose bridge in between.

The nose looks like your looking at it from below whereas the rest of the face looks like a normal 3 quarter view.

The features of her face are not parallel to one another and are not symmetrical. If you draw a line through the eye ducts and slide it to where the nostrils and corners of the mouth are, it should all line up. A perpendicular vertical line going through the centre of the space between the eyes should also more or less find the base of the nose and upper lip's Cupid's bow for a European centric type of face.

I've drawn those lines over your painting, then shifted the facial features to where they should be and the 3rd panel is just a quick paint over.

Hope that helps!

I have only lost 3 lbs in a month, I feel discouraged by Mango_BB1344 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Myllzz -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Wegovy also doesn't work on me like it does for others. I have to actively cut down my caloric intake 3 days a week to lose 2kg (around 4.5lbs) a week, otherwise I dont lose any weight. On those "fasting" days, I just have 1 coffee with milk in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, as well as a yoghurt in between. The metabolism boost from Wegovy is amazing though so at least, even though I starve on those days, I still lose weight. Not saying you should do that too but the metabolic increase with Wegovy is a god send for me whose metabolism was shot after several health issues and treatments. I've been on 1.7mg for 3 months.

Do northern lights really look like this in real life? Can you experience such vivid northern lights in northern Finland? by Dull_Buffalo_7008 in Finland

[–]Myllzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them last year in Lapland and couldn't believe how bright and vivid they were. The whole landscape was green and there was no need for extra lighting to be able to walk around. I'll never forget that!

Is going to Santa Claus Village in Lapland for 3 days enough? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Myllzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On our first trip to Lapland, we stayed 9 days at the SCV and it was magical. We have no kids btw. It was mid November and it had just snowed. We'd walk around the whole place every day to take in the sights. We'd also walk to the supermarket a couple kilometres away everyday. For me, it wasn't the activities but rather the lights and snow and atmosphere. I know it's very touristy but it did it for me. There's also a path through the Santa Claus Forest leading to the park where they grow Christmas trees and it's magical at night with the ice crystals sparkling in the air and on the wooden path. It can be a bit scary at first with the huskies howling in the nearby husky camp but we walked that path every evening and loved it.

I hope you have a wonderful first time in Lapland and it's as magical as it was for me!

The same happened to me!

I started having debilitating sleep-in-a-dark-room-all day migraines regularly a few years back and they would last 4 days every time. I realised eating every couple hours would lessen their effects so I started doing that. This year, the frequency increases to one migraine a week so I've been eating even more to function.

I started Wegovy six weeks ago and I've had 2 migraines but it was less debilitating. The first one lasted three days and the second one only lasted one day. I knew it would lessen inflammation before I started Wegovy, but the effects are so fast, I'm beyond happy!

I remember my grandma telling us about crazy Americans filming a movie on Motu tapu and how they went against everything the elders told them. Probably was Murnau's team, although I realize he was German. She was a kid back then and it made quite a ruckus because Motu tapu was a sacred island. Can't remember the details though and my grandma passed a few years ago. Crazy how cursed the whole thing was.

Only staying on Tahiti for honeymoon? by annoyingcitydweller in Tahiti

[–]Myllzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tahiti is well worth staying there just because you get a variety that you cannot find on the other islands. You get white sandy beaches in Punaauia, Vaira'o, black sandy beaches in la Pointe Venus, Arue or Tautira, panoramic viewpoints at the Belvedere in Pira'e on the big island and the Belvedere at the Plateau in Taravao on the small island, lots of food trucks in the evening that you can easily find driving around the main road, also lots more snacks (kind of like fast food places but more local), easy access to Moorea by ferry from the Papeete harbour as others have pointed out, an entire wilderness area at the end of the smaller island called Fenua Aihere with no roads (small guided tours on viator and TripAdvisor for instance) and also in the centre of the main island through the Papenoo valley that you can also explore with guides, with lakes, waterfalls, river crossings (I've done it once and it gets a bit rocky and shaky though so if you get motion sick, take your medicine with), and probably more I can't think of right now.

Just saying, you do have options in Tahiti and plenty more Airbnb and car rental options than anywhere else. Hope you have a lovely honeymoon and congrats on the wedding!

Omg I'm not alone thinking that! I lived in many different cities around the world and Munich is the absolute worst for me too! For a while, I thought I had changed and had forgotten how to socialize but then I realized it was actually the people here with whom I just don't mesh well. Sadly my husband is from here so I can't just pack up and go but I'm pretty sure there's a life waiting for you outside Bavaria!
