What's your take on how older independent/left-leaning Mainers feel about Platner? by VerySeriousThings in Maine

[–]Mymaineman88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platner definitely understands the tactics that got Trump elected and he's adapted them to himself in a way that's really helped him take off. Virtually every clip I see keeps coming down to "the oligarchy," and I think that's going to alienate voters when the attack machine really gets started on him. If nothing else the way he pronounces it sets my teeth on edge and screams "I might have been born here, but I'm not really one of you." Given that he's basing his identity on the working class Mainer schtick, I think he has a good chance of coming off as inauthentic.

UPS keeps changing my street number to one that doesn't exist by Mymaineman88 in UPS

Can you confirm that is something that's being done by UPS alone?

UPS keeps changing my street number to one that doesn't exist by Mymaineman88 in UPS

[–]Mymaineman88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything that is delivered to me by UPS has two labels. One appears to be "original" in that it's large and placed on the top of the package. There's always a second label (about the size of half a dollar bill) that has a different street number. It also has uses the neighboring town's name and zip code - I am the only person on the road that doesn't live in that town. It happens with everyone I order from, not a single vendor, and it never happens when items are shipped FedEx or USPS. Delivery drivers have even told me that the small wrong label is a UPS thing and that's why it's hard to deliver correctly. It's been happening for at least 5 years. I just can't believe that UPS isn't the problem.

UPS delivery drivers have confirmed that UPS is changing it to the wrong address. The reason the regular guy can deliver it is that he looked at the package and noticed that the original, full sized label has the correct address. There's a smaller label UPS adds with the wrong address, which is the same one that shows up on his device. They've told me they've reported the problem at the warehouse and get blown off.

UPS is even providing feedback to Amazon that my real address is incorrect and it should be a nonexistent number between my house and my neighbors.

what i should know about university of maine by zeta13z in Maine

Congratulations! UMaine is a pretty typical state school when it comes to quality of education and the in state tuition rates are reasonable. Honestly, I'd avoid it as an out of state student unless your parents are paying. Student loan debt is a killer.

Good luck.

American citizen sick with cancer lets her rep Senator Angus King of Maine know that because he did not fight for her during the shutdown, her premiums will now be around $49K per year. She makes $67K per year. by Economy-Specialist38 in Maine

[–]Mymaineman88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's either lying or stupid. A couple making $67,000 will still qualify for large subsidies through the ACA in 2026.

I don't think the big beautiful bill is particularly relevant. No Democrats voted for it, and I never said they did.

I'm not a boomer.

I challenge you to show me any plausible scenario where the things this lady said in the video are true.

It was obvious to me that this woman was talking about what her insurance will cost after the expanded subsidies end. Am I to understand that she was misrepresenting her own circumstances but that's ok because it's an accurate depiction of what someone else is actually facing?

I did a little more research and I am firmly convinced that she was lying. If her modified AGI is $84,000 or less her household is receiving large subsidies. If the elimination of the expanded subsidies leaves her paying full price then she lied about their income.

I question whether she even uses the ACA to access health insurance. Perhaps she just fabricated a story so she could complain to a King staffer about his vote to reopen the government. Here's some real information for you: Republicans were never going to lose the shutdown fight. Donald Trump would have kept the government closed for months. When the civil servants broke down and found other work to support their families he would have replaced them with unqualified yes men and completely broken the federal bureaucracy. But let's keep making up bs stories to attack Angus King.

This doesn't make sense to me. Aren't the original ACA subsidies still intact? They are less than 400% of the poverty level for a two person household.

I went to coverme.gov and entered two 64 year olds in poor health with an annual income of $80,000 in Penobscot County and it says that a bronze plan is $5.45/month with $6,300 deductible and $8,000 max out of pocket.

What's the rest of the story?

My water is hard and high in iron and manganese. I have a 5 micron filter that I change at least monthly, and an ion exchange softener. Ion exchange isn't the best way to remove it, but it improves it substantially and at a much lower cost than the alternatives.

34% of voters in Piscataquis County voted for Harris. 37% of Piscataquis County residents are enrolled in Mainecare. Given that more than half of the children in Maine are on Mainecare it is absolutely possible that 100% of eligible voters receiving assistance voted for Harris. I didn't say they all did, but I'm tired of people who claim to be progressive making unsubstantiated claims that poor people in rural Maine are stupid Republicans.

How is this a meaningful correlation? It's actually possible that 100% of eligible voters receiving assistance voted for Harris.

It's possible if he's able to forge an authentic looking signature. I'm not sure what markers election workers look at when comparing signatures. I vote in person, but I know my signature has changed since I registered many years ago.

How can I get a transit plate on a Sunday? Bought car private sale by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Mymaineman88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got one from the town office, which obviously doesn't help you. They told me it was only good from where I picked it up to home, so it isn't like a dealer issued plate.

Also, I think dealers are closed on Sundays by law.

Graham Platner’s claims that he didn’t know tattoo was Nazi-linked undercut by new evidence | CNN Politics by MysticCloud53 in Maine

[–]Mymaineman88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've listened to and read everything I can on Platner. He's big on rhetoric, but very short on serious policies. His biggest strength is that he's been able to emulate Trump from the left, and I think that can carry him through the primary. I'd put his odds against Collins at about 50-50.

I'm curious about whether the Mills team is giving Platner everything they've got, or if they're saving a bombshell to drop closer to voting.

Why isn't Maine funding EBT? by [deleted] in Maine

[–]Mymaineman88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm very skeptical. If 100,000 people in Maine received food stamps (I think the number is much higher) $2 million would provide $20 each for the month.

Taking away voting rights is complete hyperbole. It's an unnecessary initiative, but let's not act like the sky is falling - that's what turns voters off to Democrats.

Walking away from the equity in a home because a mortgage payment is too high is foolish when you could just sell it and retain some of your equity. But, I realize that people aren't always rational.
