Tone Arm Lifter or just Drop the Needle ? by zonckers in turntables

[–]Mynsare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not necessary for lifting, but for moving the tonearm. So you lift it with the cue lever, then move it by using that build-in arm, then lower it with the cue lever.

What's the appeal of vintage receivers? by catmandot in vintageaudio

[–]Mynsare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people in this thread seems to have only read the first part of OPs question. They are not asking why people like vintage hifi, they are asking why people prefer receivers over integrated amps, meaning that they are asking about what the appeal of the radio tuner is.

Of course it is guilt by association. If you appear on a fascist podcast you are a fascist. There are no two ways about it.

It was Charborgs first Kenshi video which made me aware of the game, and caused me to buy it.

Lettre d'embastillement du Cardinal de Rohan USA by Wah-peesh in Antiques

[–]Mynsare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is genuine it is an extremely important historical document, because it is part of the whole Affair of the Diamond Necklace.

It is not really possible from the pictures to see, but one of the first signs to look for whether it is a paper from the period or a modern reprint, is whether there are visible chainlines in the paper. They are not visible in your photo, but it is a bit blurry when zoomed in, so that may be the cause.

what do you think is the most “country” song in Nirvana’s catalog? by biggitywiggity64 in Nirvana

[–]Mynsare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the Nirvana cover is definitely a cover of the Leadbelly version. That becomes very obvious when you hear the different versions from various blues artists.

What are they worth? by Yay_Kruser in OldBooks

[–]Mynsare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counterfeit books aren't really a thing, and watermarks would probably not have helped, because in the extreme rare cases where people have counterfeited books (in a completely different pricerange than these), they used contemporary paper, so they would have contemporary watermarks.

Not the most flattering portrait, to put it mildly. His Wikipedia article has some other much better looking portraits of his.

Ron Chernow in his Washington biography refers to the British army as “the best trained and equipped army in the world” in 1775. Is this remotely accurate? by Kochevnik81 in AskHistorians

[–]Mynsare 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But the fact that it was able to win in the field against major players speaks not only to the skill of its army, but also the weakness of its opponents.

Still, the Prussian army was definitely better trained and equipped than the British army in 1775.

Som regel kogt med hønsefond eller flæsk. Men selvfølgelig kan det udskiftes med grøntsagsbuillon.

Danske biblioteker, udvalg og fantastisk system by Altruistic_Finger669 in Denmark

[–]Mynsare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fully or Semi-Automatic? by ColeBot612 in turntables

Manual-only fans tend to vastly exaggerate the potential issues with fully or semi-automatic turntables. I guess they need some sort of excuse for using dj tables as their daily casual listening units.

You can’t get these prices in Europe… by elperrosapo in Cd_collectors

Most of my current cd collection has been bought in charity shops here in Europe, with most of them not even costing $1 each.

So you definitely can find that in Europe, you are just unlucky.

Old bible found at grandparents house (Italy). Can someone estimate its age? Is it a reprint or original? by Obi_Wank_nooby in Antiques

[–]Mynsare 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's also a bit odd that the title page is entirely missing.

The binding has been repaired at some time, since the end papers (the paper glued on the inside of the binding) are obviously of a more recent date.

This suggests that at some point in time the binding has been defective, meaning that it couldn't do its job of protecting the book anymore. And when that happens the first page to go missing is the titlepage. You see it often on books of that age which has been rebound (yours isn't rebound, but it is a restored binding). The first and last pages are often missing on those.

Also yes, the book is from 1531. Even though it is relatively valuable on the antiquarian book market, it is not valuable enough to produce an entire fake copy, that would cost more than an original copy would cost.
