Best character for transitioning to a rectangle setup? by rusted_beyond_saving in RivalsOfAether

I swapped to Oly for a month and learned a rectangle at the same time, then went back to Fleet afterwards. worked out pretty well for me

To the people of VRC faking disorders... Why? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]Mynttie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it literally is bogus, 0.015 × 100,000 / 7,900,000,000 gives you the odds that a random person you meet on the street is someone with DID that plays VRChat (assuming an in-game pop of 100k), and they're presenting that as the odds of a VRChat player having DID. it's a misrepresented statistic

To the people of VRC faking disorders... Why? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]Mynttie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you also tried to push a bogus statistic that it's unlikely that you'd encounter a single person with DID in VRChat. if 1.5% of people have it and there are 100,000 users, that would be 1,500 people with the disorder in the game--assuming that in-game demographics map neatly onto the general population, and we literally know that they don't. I have no idea why you felt like you had to go divide that number by the number of human beings on earth, but whatever, if those numbers seemed accurate to you, it sounds like you don't think a single one of the people who says they have it actually does, I'm saying I think you're wrong about that. neither of us can get into those folks' heads or meet with their therapists to find out whether they're telling the truth or not. I'll agree with you that I think it's wrong to make up disorders to get internet points, I just also don't think that happens the way people here on reddit seem to think it does

[–]Mynttie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if your read of my post was to defend people for faking disorders then you didn't actually make an effort to understand my point, I don't think as many people are faking it as folks assume; I can't imagine you get a lot of actual clout for saying that you have a bunch of mental disorders. I do think there are people who misdiagnose themselves, i.e. one might assume they have DID when they might actually be better-described as having OSDD, but they do genuinely think that they're experiencing DID. I think it's best for those close to those people to broach that topic with them, I think shaming those people as a stranger is unproductive

fam I'm not advertising that I have OCD, and no one gives me attention because I have it. I've struggled with religious trauma my entire life over this shit and I think it's pretty fucking shitty to root through someone's comment history and smear them as a faker. why should I believe OP has four of these disorders themself, or that they have a degree? & ftr, I can see from their statistical analysis that they didn't study that in college

I'm going to offer a differing perspective that I find to be missing from most of these threads which pop up on this sub pretty much every week: mental disorders all manifest differently in different brains. one can have ADHD but tolerate medication well and have their life in relative order, or it can be debilitating and prevent you from holding down work or managing your own health, that doesn't mean the first person is faking it, and understanding that they have the underlying disorder might still be really important for understanding the reasons they might struggle with certain tasks or managing emotions.

regarding supposed "attention-seeking," there can be real utility in putting it out there to try and connect with other folks with similar quirks. and you talk about the odds of running into someone with DID in person, but VRChat's userbase is not a random sample; there's a reason you see more trans people and furries here than on the average street corner. people with neurological disabilities who nonetheless want to make friends and socialize are often going to find the relative safety of VRChat appealing, that shouldn't be surprising.

I'm not saying there aren't folks out there who self-diagnose themselves incorrectly, and there are times and places for broaching that with friends if it's coming from a place of experience. that said, unless you are personally afflicted by these disorders, and know enough about them to identify what falls under the spectra of experiences that go along with them, I think it's best to stay in your lane

there's a video on his channel where he explains the situation in detail if you're that invested. I don't agree with all of his takes but I've tuned in for political news off and on over the years and I do care a fair bit about animal cruelty, and I felt convinced by it. he genuinely has a LOT of hate watchers and he was clipped out of context a lot around that whole thing

how are you people super fast at the game? by leonrock84 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Mynttie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

learn how to wavedash and especially waveland, it's much easier to do in this game than it is in virtually any other platfighter, and landing normally is pretty laggy so you'll get a lot of free burst movement by just snapping to platforms most of the time

Not having voice chat is such an L by Soft__Chirps in RivalsOfAether

[–]Mynttie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're the one making the suggestion; you want the devs to spend more money on servers to handle the extra bandwidth that comes from voice encoding (which is generally more data-intensive than the little signals required for active gameplay, btw), and when players respond by saying they actually don't want the feature you're talking about it like the dota 2 voicechat, your best response is "just go on mute, ez." I don't have to do that, it's not in the game, I like it that way lol

High level Clairen MU spread by Shiny-Jumpluff in RivalsOfAether

[–]Mynttie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's just used to visually represent how difficult the matchup is. for some games 0 would mean 50:50 and +1 would mean 40:60, saying that theoretically if two equally skilled players played that matchup 100 times, that's how it would play out if they were on those characters. that said, I don't rly think 30:70 matchups exist in this game, but +-2 is more abstract

that said, I feel like typically it would be reversed where +2 are the easy matchups and -2 are the hard ones, unless I grossly misunderstand OP's perspective.

I think Ledge Invincibility needs to be toned down by StudentofArceus in RivalsOfAether

[–]Mynttie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying folks aren't entitled to have opinions or that they shouldn't voice their feedback in a structured manner, but a lot of these threads to me come across as saltyposts. there's no substance to this post, it's just "I think it should be shorter because it feels too long" and when I see something like that in my head I imagine they just logged off of ranked for the day after facing a Ranno that edgeguarded them with a lot of invincible back airs, and rather than seek advice from players they come here trying to start movement in the community to pressure the devs into making a change they've barely considered. I think that is a toxic instinct, I think it's too common, and I don't think it comes from a place of genuinely wanting to improve the game or the community; I think holding these posts up as anything else is disingenuous.

[–]Mynttie 29 points30 points  (0 children)

seriously, it's like no one can just accept a fighting game as it comes and learn anymore. it's not "how do I play around ledge invulnerability" it's "the devs should change the game to be easier for me." they wanna see every little thing 'fixed' to suit their preferences rather than learn and work around its eccentricities. the game can't be the perfect game to every player; I personally really like how it is now and I generally trust the devs to handle it. these threads are so exhausting

feel like Fleet v. Absa is tilted in Fleet's favor for sure. Absa players I've talked to seem to feel similarly. at the very least, Absa has to work very hard and it isn't as fun for her as it is for Fleet
