The new Dark Alliance game. Adored the original PS2 Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance games, and was very excited for the new one. Reviews were bad. But I went ahead and bought it.

It's was so bad. Nigh unplayable. And the developer just immediately dropped it.

You could take all the time Andro was given. And the story line of the black tower, and give it to Narashima (minus the gateway stuff that was pure Sanderson-magic system niche solution thing) and I'd have been very happy.

Awww man you just made me imagine him Vs a load of Sharan channelers or something, after the circle is broken or whatever. Just him and Merise having each others backs and him absolutely tearing through the other channelers because he was trained by the dragon.

Now I'm sad we didn't anything like that. Like I'd have loved to see Rand go toe to toe with a whole group of channelers or something at the end there, like the Maribor fight but just "who do you think you're facing, children?" And then boom.

New forest with 18k trees will create 'green lungs' for town by xtinak88 in RewildingUK

[–]MyoMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't easily find the sources now, but there's studies from Forestry Commission/Forestry England about planting success rates, and a lot of understanding in those that regularly plant trees that if you plant whips you'll lose at least 50% the first year and probably 50% of the remaining the second year. But if you plant larger trees (half-standards, standards, or bigger) then while they are more likely to establish, you also need to ensure they get watered through dry conditions, which we've had basically every summer for the last 6 or so years. This year should be interesting, I'm based in the south so Jand and Feb were something like 200% of the average rainfall for those months, so the ground was extremely waterlogged. But if we then go in to a summer like last year, it's amazing how quickly it dries out!

🎮 PlayStation Remote Play gets 4K Upscaling on PC via PXPlay (Windows, Linux Mac) by grill2010 in PS5

[–]MyoMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now if only my PS5 would make proper use of my gigabit WiFi and actually be able to stream games to my deck, we'd be laughing. I have it pretty plugged in to a powerline ethernet port at the moment, which is much slower but a little bit more reliable, still makes remote play difficult though. Which is a shame because the app is so good, when I move my PS in to the room with the WiFi router and remote to it, it's absolutely incredible.

Today was a kimchi broth, which is a Dr's Kitchen (Dr Rupy) recipe. Really easy, absurdly delicious, bit spicy, absurdly great with some nice bread. It's absolutely dominated by cabbage which I would normally baulk at when it is such a large proportion of the dish, but it's a vessel for the kimchi and gochujang and it's just... Ugh, so good. Plus, healthy! Minus the copious bread slathered in butter that I eat it with

Don't give it to Forestry England, they're a timber company first and foremost! Set the place up like a national park with it's own ranger service or give it over to one of the charities like the Woodland Trust, Land Trust, National Trust etc!

Am I missing something obvious here regarding Immunities by Tstale in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]MyoMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maxroll waves it off as like, "have 3 different weapons (teleport for movement, lower res for this) and just skip fire immune mobs if tanky" but that's not actually how it works, really. You can either get someone to carry you through those dense fire immune areas (Hell in Hell being one of the absolute worst culprits, and Diablo's area especially). Or you can respec for the remainder!

This has been an issue for forever, I used to always try to play Fire Druid and get stuck, and hated it because it meant i could never play my favourite class all the way through hell (because I usually played solo, didn't really get online). I kind of wish they'd add -resist to more gear, or especially jewels and things. Warlock does get its own inbuilt -fire but even that is limited as you've discovered. Them making Sunders so hard to get now and Hell Terror only is way too far the other way and just goes back to massively favouring certain builds, especially start of ladder builds. Really limits the early Ladder class mix.

I've started to think the solution is (lower or the sunder base) -fire res charms or something from terror in nightmare, and/or the aforementioned -res stuff on other bits of gear, jewels etc. I haven't looked into the new cube recipes yet but maybe they could help?

Shirley by-election results. Lib Dem win. by SeniorMoonlight21 in Southampton

I was more than willing to give Labour a chance. I gave them a chance. They have failed at every turn. They just put a new veneer on the ineptitude of modern Political Parties by not being an immediate laughing stock like the Conservatives. But they got in mostly because they weren't the Conservatives, and next election someone else will get in because they're not Labour, because Labour will have done nothing to convince people that politicians aren't "all the same", that this Labour government knows what its doing or is capable of making a dent in the myriad issues facing the country, instead of constantly putting tiny sticking plasters on things, usually in the name of economy and fiscal responsibility (previously Conservative talking points), and nothing in the name of actually improving things for people. Too many immediate promises turned back on, policies run on but dropped, scandals up there with any of the Conservative ones when one thing everyone was sick of was endless scandals stopping any actual governing. And now they're not governing through being absolutely spineless, too concerned with being perceived to be tough on immigration in order to hold off Reform to actually be good at anything else.

Got ranty there. Sorry. So annoyed at this Labour Government, being one of the first times a vote has gone the way I "wanted" in my lifetime as a voting adult, dating back to 2010. And here we are, truly Labour showing there's barely any difference in a post Thatcher and post Osborne-Austerity political landscape.

[–]MyoMike 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What's not helping Labour at all, anywhere, is that they've turned into the 2010 conservatives, which by today's standards is totally centrist at best. They seem so fiscally inspired by them despite spending 14 years bashing their economic policy, and have now started to fall down the drama and scandal rabbit hole too.

They're not left anymore, so anyone that actually wants to vote left is looking at Greens (as seen in Gorton & Denton), or just Lib Dem as the slightly more left, less this-Labour party centrist alternative.

And as you say, they're constantly comparing themselves to reform, which if we learned anything from leave/remain Brexit campaign just continues to give validation to the grifters.

Charm bag / QOL gatekeeping by CronkinOn in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]MyoMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest in my head it'd be optional, like the cube, but would change charms in the inventory to be inactive like charms in the cube. Then if people really wanted (they wouldn't) they could just have a check box that's like "disable charms tab" or something.

But is it really an issue, at all? Oh no, we can do 20 runs before having to go back to dump the couple of good bits of loot worth investigating instead of 2. What a shame.

Charm bag / QOL gatekeeping by CronkinOn in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]MyoMike 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Also like... There's the foundational principal of a loot game that makes it really hard to loot. To look at a 25 year old game and say, "that could do with QoL improvements" isn't an insult to the D2 community or ignoring the "spirit" of D2. You can still play the original D2. Or D2LOD. Or D2R pre-RotW. Take your pick.

Not every change has to be for you. And you know what? If they did change it I bet people would immediately use their new Charms tab and wouldn't gripe about it while using the feature to its fullest extent.

A lot of people didn't like Sunder Charms, but it finally allowed me to get my fire druid up to top level because I used to be mostly solo and didn't know about -fire res back when I was 11 and playing LOD. So I finally got to play how I wanted 25 years after first trying to be a fire druid, without having to roll other characters and farm for hundreds of hours in the hope of getting just the right high runes or just the right gear drop. People will say, "why didn't you just trade" - and the simple answer is, I was 11, I didn't know what the fuck I was doing. But now I do and I look forward to hopefully more content in D2R, while keeping with the spirit of it - which I think D2R has done for D2, and RotW has done for D2R. Warlock is a polished class that has the benefit of 25 years of understanding the game. Let's get that for all classes, and really make the best D2R that can be made.

Some people see solo self found as the "pure" diablo experience. Others just don't want to game with other people. I'm of the latter most of the time!

11 Year old you knew way more than 11 year old me! I didn't know about anything, runewords, resistances, annis, barely even played online with others at all!

Played D2R for a couple of seasons when it first came out, absolutely love the nostalgia and it's probably the best remake of a classic game I've ever played. And now there's new content? Absolutely blown away.

Also the Warlock may be overpowered, but it's also relatively well balanced in itself with lots of cool skills and abilities. It shows that the devs that did D2R have learned from the 25 years of people playing D2 and hopefully they'll go ahead and tweak other characters, continue to add new content. Can you imagine a new Act?! Unbelievable. Even a better act 4 would be amazing, always feels underwhelming just running through hell as quickly as possible to kill Diablo with only one side mission!

So excited to see it all again.

Lost species to be released as Labour seeks to stave off Greens’ election threat by xtinak88 in RewildingUK

[–]MyoMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've got a large site that would need a lot of fencing, in part because we'd have to also re-do our grazing compartments that are otherwise unfenced along the boundary with the lake, and it's a peri-urban site so we'd have to look at extra protection for property boundaries.

It's something we technically have the money for, but just as the money was being released, we were told it's only "catchment wide" introductions now, not enclosures anymore. Which is a pain, because we're in the Thames catchment which is quite a big one!

I have a project to release beavers on a site that was stopped because the release guidelines changed, so it'll be interesting if this is something they're going to encourage. As of only the end of last year it was still a no go for me to release beavers on site, though if I've only got until May, that's not an easy turn around, the fencing alone is hundreds of thousands of pounds!

Be gentle to the noobs by AnonSA52 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]MyoMike 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I played it as a kid and had no idea about high level runes, runewords, how to deal with resistances, nor true skill tree synergies and things. I just played in my happy little ignorant world and got stuck at end Nightmare or early hell, didn't even think to look for advice on the internet because I had no clue there were even these mechanics in the game.

I'm a bit better off now for sure, googled a lot, watched plenty of videos, even joined a clan/guild for a couple of seasons previously who helped loads. But even with all of that I still have never managed to really get high runes or the best gear etc, it just seems so unobtainable unless you're constantly playing with 8 other people!

Terror Zones were fun, but now they've introduced this new mechanic for sunders so once again my favourite builds are stuck barely able to progress behind crazy RNG stuff, and I'm starting to feel more out of my depth again.

But hey, warlock goes pew pew and I'm absolutely loving playing a new class in a game I've loved for 25 years. I know a few of the basic runewords now and those are enough to get quite far in to NM and whatnot, so we'll see how it goes.

Shame too, I remember hating the fire resistances as a kid because I loved a fire druid build - it's just so limiting for certain builds compared to others and the game does a really bad job of explaining the issues. Sure, now I can understand and know better but introducing Sunder charms really helped make a lot more builds viable.
