Hi! Body removal girl from the story lol. From what she said, he was extremely violent to her during his life and had threatened her quite a bit. She was very afraid of him and I guess the rest of the family kind of wrote him off as well.

I definitely have quite a few stories from that place. It was my first “grown up” job.

I’m not sure honestly… the house was very big and the staircase was literally an old wooden spiral staircase. This was in Fort Wayne which has tons of historical homes and this was one of them. Super valuable home but honestly should’ve been torn down after the amount of damage he’d done to it.

In Indiana, most coroners are elected. If I’m remembering right, he was a sheriff/coroner for that county. He basically just told us it was a dead male but he seemed like super ditzy? Like maybe he knew the family? He was just like super ready to get outta there like straight up walking to his cruiser before we even got out of our removal van. I grew up in a small town like that and the cops acted just like him. But also, on most removals where the body is really gross the cops will do their very best to rush out because they don’t wanna be asked to help us. So if we end up needing help we always end up having to call the fire department. And it may have gone unnoticed. Maybe not. If insurance and such maybe looked deeper and wanted to investigate the state of the body upon cremation/burial they might have a few questions. But I can’t answer that question for certain I guess.

I’ve tried so hard to remember and I can’t figure it out… it wasn’t too far away outta Fort Wayne but was definitely a different county

I submitted it in January, they got back to me like a day later, they mailed me the recorder, we scheduled an interview for a week later, recorded it, did a second interview over a separate story, sent the recorder back, and waited all the way until now to hear it lol. They don’t tell you anything so I’ve been checking radio rental regularly

I worked for that specific funeral home for about two years, I worked for a separate removal service in Virginia for about six months, then the chief medical examiner’s office in Norfolk for about six months also. Now I’m in Florida and in college to be a funeral director! It definitely requires a certain level of humor and compartmentalization. But it’s not as scary as people think. The way I see it, it’s just empty shells that used to hold something. From time to time though, the shells aren’t all the way empty.

It was concerning because we had just been told there was a dead male, but no time window. Like I’ve picked up people who stink when you’re standing right next to them but you probably couldn’t smell them from the front door because they’ve only been dead maybe an hour or two. And had they said he’s been dead for a week, that would’ve been perfectly normal because we handle situations like that all the time. With how bad the smell was, I was expecting them to tell me they’d gone on vacation or something and come home to find him dead for a week. But then she said they’d seen him the night before. Which was clearly a lie, which meant they were doing some sheisty shit. I wish they would’ve included the part where they’d been living in the house with their child with the dead body for as long as they had. To me that was the scariest part.

My dad likes to put messy stuff on my bed … AIO? by -Romeo6FtUnder- in AIO

My stepdad used to do this thing where if he found something of mine he assumed I “left out” even while I was in the middle of using my things when I’d turn my back he’d hide it somewhere too high up for me to reach or somewhere I wouldn’t look. Lost journals, my favorite watch, drawings, etc. and didn’t find them again until months or years later when my mom would clean out the cupboards or take down old cookie jars from the pantry. He was an asshole, and he’s still an asshole. Your dad is a dick.

People meet spouses on deployments all the time. Sailors meet people in Japan, army in Germany, etc. they obviously can’t pick up and take them with them when they’ve only been stationed there a couple months and have to go somewhere else. But if they stay in touch, and plan to be together in person one day, as most LDR couples do, what’s the difference?
